Barbarians will be barbarians!

Oh yeah, and in addition to desecrating dead bodies, are these fine Taleb-lads also looking at introducing again executions and hand-cutting as well.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/09/24/afghanistan-taliban-amputations-executions-return/

Fast-forward back to the 90s it seems.

The Taliban and its strict Sharia Law have destroyed the gains made over the last 20-years.

Zichi,do you think after trillion of US dollars and 20 years of US occupation, the people of Afghanistan would of got their act together, even after bringing some of them to the US, they are starting to attack American women

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

One has to remember that Sharia is not exclusive to Afghanistan, our supposed ally Saudi Arabia also follows it, beheadings , amputations, stoning to death are practiced there too.

The Saudis have money, the taliban don’t, that’s the only difference between the two!!!

“the four (kidnappers) were killed in crossfire.”

Well, killing the kidnappers outright DOES save time and money on courts and prisons.

Are you saying the US has the right to decide how other people should live their lives?

There is, methinks, much method, albeit primitive, in the Taliban's madness, merely doing what all governments do after their own fashion: "killing a chicken to scare the monkeys", as the Chinese say. It'll take some time for the people of Afghanistan to catch up to Henry Thoreau's thoughts on "Civil Disobedience" , or digest the immortal words of Mario Savio's Sproul Hall speech:

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus -- and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it -- that unless you're free the machine will be prevented from working at all!!

My thoughts and prayers for the people caught in the gears of the Taliban's killing machine.

The US didnt have to bomb them back to the stone age, they will end up there through their own choice . Amazing what people will do in the name of religion.

Any non Muslims here who have actually read the Quran? It's basically about as crazy as the Bible. If we took everything in the bible literally, we'd all be dead. Everything is a sin. Most of these hardliner islamists are illiterate and brainwashed. Sharia Law is a literal interpretation of the Quran that preys on the weak and mutilates it's actual meaning of peace. I feel sorry for the Afghans.

And these are the people Trump and Pompeo thought were trustworthy....

The picture of Pompeo smiling with the Taliban Deputy after signing the surrender agreement will haunt him the rest of his political career....

Well, this is only the beginning, expect more atrocities to come out of this. It’s the Taliban. They just can’t won’t change who and what they are. Just pray for these people, all you can do. Hope we get the rest of the Americans out, that should be top priority.

The Taliban have banned music.

The Taliban have banned music.

That famous Clash song was about Iran and now it applies here too.

See the look on that mullah's face. Apparently he's blind in one eye but deep down inside he's blind, in fanaticism. A Muslim he is not. The Taliban are not Muslims, they are murderers and another 'M' word that I won't type here.

Note to Taliban... if you want to be respected as a stable country... don't do things like you just did. Another reason they shouldn't have representation at the UN.

The Taliban have banned music.

But you can bet your bottom dollar the secretive Taliban will be surreptitiously indulging in their guilty pleasure of internet porn (without the music, natch).

The Taliban and its strict Sharia Law have destroyed the gains made over the last 20-years.

The actions of the current president of the United States are responsible for destroying the gains of the last 20 years. Before the mismanaged withdrawal the Talibans reign of terror was not happening. Women were getting educated and bodies weren’t being hung in effigy by the government.

Just remember, this is the group that Trump negotiated with and "trusted" while at the same time sidelining and excluding our 20-year Afghan government partners...

He surrendered to the Taliban in Feb 2020, gave them everything they wanted, and then to top it off forced the Afghan government that he excluded to release 5K Taliban ISIS, and Al Qaeda prisoners....who then started planning their eventual takeover...

Trump should have flown to Kabul in Aug, welcomed them and shook their hand as they entered the city - given he made it all possible...

This is their own business

My mother told me of how her doctor father’s assistant had told her when she was a child that he had witnessed a public hanging in the UK. Late 1800s? What he saw I do not know, but many countries still use capital punishment for the deterrent effect. So it is probably unrealistic to expect Afghanistan to look like Sweden from Day 1.

The last public hanging in the UK was in 1868.

Today the majority of world countries no longer have capital punishment.

We are now way past what Obama and Trump did or even Bush. As bad the pullout was, what can the US or international community do to stop some of these atrocities and these are as bad and as barbaric as they can get. Trying to help these people as much as we can, both sides blaming the “previous former” Presidents doesn’t help anyone.

The Saudis have money, the taliban don’t, that’s the only difference between the two!!!

Well the Saudis under MBS are on a path to moderate Islam.. as such there is no comparison..

The Saudis have oil and big money to pacify the Americans with their weapons buying. They can even execute an American citizen without reprisals. Will the crown state reform, a little but not enough to ever introduce democracy or equal rights for women.
