there are two words for this man - Shabra and Shatila ....

8 ( +13 / -5 )

He was a mass murderer and war criminal. The world is a better place without people like him.

shabra and shatila, de-code please

" The Sabra and Shatila massacre was the slaughter of between 762 and 3,500 civilians, mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shiites, by a Lebanese Christian militia in the Sabra neighborhood and the adjacent Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon from approximately 6:00 pm 16 September to 18 September 1982."

" In 1983, a UN commission chaired by Sean MacBride concluded that Israel bore responsibility for the violence. In 1983, the Israeli Kahan Commission, appointed to investigate the incident, found that Israeli military personnel, aware that a massacre was in progress, had failed to take serious steps to stop it. Thus Israel was indirectly responsible, while Ariel Sharon, then Defense Minister, bore personal responsibility "for ignoring the danger of bloodshed and revenge", forcing him to resign."

The blood of many civilians is on his hands. I can see why many of today's leaders heap praise on him.

May he face judgement for his evil deeds. No rest for the wicked.

Why is this Man being Honoured? He was responsible for the deaths of many Palestinians.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

He was a criminal and a murderer, and history will remember him as such.

Butcher Gone

2 ( +4 / -2 )

He's already been essentially "dead" since his stroke 8 years ago. That said, I agree w most of the posters above. He was a thug and won't be missed by anyone other than Netanyahu.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

A brave man, that's all I can say.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Sabra and Shatila has been conveniently forgotten for political purposes.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

A brave man, that's all I can say.

It certainly takes a brave man to stand by and watch while thousands are slaughtered knowing you could have stopped it

2 ( +4 / -2 )

'He was a thug and won't be missed by anyone other than Netanyahu' Don't forget the US rightwingers. It's in their textbook to respect strongarm Israeli leaders.

His visit to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem in 2000 was also the trigger for the Second Palestinian Intifada, which killed 3000 Palestinians and 1000 odd Israelis.

A good bloke he was not.

Ok, Isreal and the entire ME is not a nice place, this kind of slaughter is very sad. The man, Sharon is dead now, karma, god (pick your choice of a god, or gods) will see he gets a taste of his own medicine. This whole world is really messed up!! RIP??

"U.S. President Barack Obama led the global chorus of praise for Sharon, remembering him as “a leader who dedicated his life to the state of Israel”.

"foreign leaders praised his decision on Gaza, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel calling it “courageous”.

"He was a criminal and a murderer"

"He was a thug"

"Butcher gone"

Heck, what do Obama, Merkel and other world leaders know? The guy was obviously a criminal, a murderer, a thug and a butcher.

Heck, what do Obama, Merkel and other world leaders know?

For different reasons, the American president and the German chancellor both have very good cause to be seen to be praising a recently-deceased leader of the world's only Jewish state. It's politics.

What they believe in private we'll never know. But given that Obama and Merkel are both clearly well-informed and intelligent, I seriously doubt that they have much respect for this thug.

Serrano,

"U.S. President Barack Obama ...remembering him as “a leader who dedicated his life to the state of Israel”.

This statement would upset neither Netanyahu nor Ahmadinejad.
