Rudy says “Trial by combat!”

Now I know Rudy wouldn’t put others at risk, right? He’s making a personal offer, no?

So Rudy, tell me when, tell me where. I’ll be there.

The Senate won't take up the matter until the 20th. A memo from Mitch Mcconnell was leaked today saying as much. The Senate was looking to Impeach but reportedly Lindsey Graham brokered that video that Trump put out to take a little bit of the heat off. Profiles in courage from the GOP.

Blaming Peckinpah for riots. What a stupid stupid level things have descended to.

"that it is impossible," I mean.

Slickdrifter, your 12:07 pm post above brought tears to my eyes. "I don't even want to read the article."

Thank you for your obviously painful honesty in deciding which way to walk. A really tough time for all.

Impeachment and de-platforming are all well and good, but there needs to be some serious soul searching and addressing the legacy of nativism and bigotry.*

That needs to start from the roots of have how it was started..and all maybe those need to Impeached and de-platformed.. that soul searching again will start from education..education and education, as that will identify the real root cause..and nobody wants to do that.

@Geronimo

Fortunately there are numerous checks and balances in place to prevent the use of nuclear weapons. NPR did a very good show on that in 2017 (link below).

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/heres-goes-presidents-decision-launch-nuclear-weapons

Considering how he treated members of the U.S. military during his regime (i.e. saying he knows more than they do, calling some cowards, etc.) and he tried to give an order to use such weapons his unlawful order would not be followed. The chain of command working downward from Trump has several levels. He would be thwarted immediately and he would subsequently be immediately removed from office.

I do get your point however. He has certainly and without a shadow of a doubt demonstrated he is not capable of having such responsibility.

If I had to make one point in favor of invoking the 25th Amendement or his impeachment it would not be based on what happened at the Capitol and it would be based on the fact that his current instability presents a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States if the United States were to be engaged by an enemy at this time. At this point I would completely agree with such an action if that was stated as the rationale for removal.

Gangsterism exists in all cultures. Some wear ties and fake smiles. Some hold political office.

Well that's the issue.. If others do it than, I will also do it.. now that is not going to fix anything..your issues are your issues and you need to fix them..others will not fix it for you..

If, however, the right is serious about halting the glamorization of violence in Hollywood - maybe they will call for influential Scorsese/Coppola/Tarantino/Peckinpah films to be phased out.

Well Hollywood is hardcore left.. and yes Scorsese/Coppola/Tarantino/Peckinpah types should definitely be phased out..

That old chestnut. If only they behaved like the Asians..

That's not what was said. learn and develop your own style.. so we have Asian hatred.. now that's very obivious..

The way to fix racism (right down to obvious dog whistles) is education, integration, community and cultural exchange..

Only education will lead to integration, community and cultural exchange.. that is first.. dog whistle.. now that's the race card out there.

tearing down of racist statues and the alleged burning down of cities (no cities were burnt down, in reality)

The business were looted, burned with all out rioting..no cities were not burnt the business were burnt..that's the subterfuge right there..

Impeachment and de-platforming are all well and good, but there needs to be some serious soul searching and addressing the legacy of nativism and bigotry.

That

I don't want to even read the article...

Excellent post. Shows why it's wrong to demonise Republicans and conservatives and assume they're all rabid neo-nazi Trump cultists even if you disagree with their opinions.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Twitter & FB et al, too little too late !

The damage had already been done.

They put profits first & let him have free reign to incite.

They should shoulder some of the blame as well

6 ( +6 / -0 )

In case you're not sure about his disorders.

https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/attention-seeking-behavior

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I don't think the he planned to incite a riot as part of a precise precise to overturn the election. He is too incompetent to mastermind that. I think inciting the riot was the outcome of his mental disorders, namely narcissistic, histrionic and borderline personality disorders. He should be removed from office and charged with manslaughter. He should not be allowed anywhere near nuclear codes. Seriously.

@expat: Your post and the article raise very good points.

Biden clearly won the election. I would even conceded it was possible there were one or two small acts of malfeasance but nowhere near enough to change the results.

It is clear the House will go for impeachment from Monday. It will be interesting to see how the process plays out and if it can even be done by innauguration day. Although I despise Trump, am happy to seem him go, and think he is a sick narcissist at this point in time the best thing is to let him sulk. Spend energy on preparing for Biden and to take quick actions related to Covid-19 immediately and start the process in the House of getting help to those who need it.

As for the complete idiots who stormed the Capitol the irony is the unintended consequences of their action is going to result in what they claim to be fighting for; further reductions in free speech and likely some further restrictions on individual liberties. For this I hold the idiots who stormed the Capitol accountable and Trump himself for fanning the flames.

The absolute worst thing Trump has done in my opinion is his complete negligence and refusal to do his duty as a President during the last two months when Covid-19 was rampaging through the U.S. He was on the golf course, nowhere to be seen, and showing his true character. How anyone can defend the last 2 months of Trump is beyond me. He not only did nothing but also demonstrated his complete lack of leadership abilities.

Now it is pretty obvious Melania, who never wanted the job of 1st Lady in the first place, walked out and is not coming back. The fact that she did not attend the immature little party they held speaks volumes in so many ways.

It is a sad time to be an American.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Trump is the republican party, death and destruction cult that it is, but he owns the party. Remains at 90% support amount the MAGA republican crowd. What happened this week will make no difference. If you are republican and can see the huge mistake your party made selecting him in 2016 your only choice is to leave the party like many smart republicans have already done, Steve Schmidt for example. Only one party in the USA supports Democracy and the Constitution. And can balance the federal budget. And not destroy the economy.

heard today

Hang Mike Pence

Such very fine people, on both sides. not.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I couldn't believe Trump was back up and tweeting today again. Shut him down forever.

Twitter is months late on this. I completely agree he has earned a ban for life. As have all his relatives. And most of his supporters. No company should transmit lies as a business plan.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Trumpism is an ideology. It has no place in the GOP. In effect, it has been like a cancer spreading in the GOP and causing it to split into to camps. The traditional Republican party, and the party of Trump.

Trump doesn't care one bit for the ideals and traditions of the GOP. In fact, Trump doesn't even care for any of his supporters, contrary to what his supporters may believe. His supporters are so stupid to think that their shyster of a leader actually cares for their needs and wants. All Trump cares about is himself and only himself. Just look at how quick he will throw former friends under the bus. Heck, I'm not sure he even likes his children.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

If you think 74 million people can be silenced you're wrong.

We won't go down without a fight.

The United States Army has Abrams tanks, you have none.

The United Sates Air Force stands with me, not you.

81 million that voted for Biden is much MUCH more than your 74 million.

So this is the part where we say “Bring it, Sweetheart.”

And next is the part where you crawl back under your rock muttering conspiracy theories.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

btw, the term Trump15t was used on several news channels recently. BBC this morning, for example, with Jon Sopel's report.

It's an ideology, a nasty one, and should be referred to as such without being flagged.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

banned from Twitter. soon to be impeached/indicted.

Donald Trump is going. He can go the easy way or the hard way, but he’s going.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

The best is yet to come!

From wannabe hero to soon to be zero.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Republican's need to get away from Trump. He is toxic to the party.

And to think there are still people who support Ted Cruz and Hawley.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Now to fix this is first to get rid of the gangsta culture in that community which is responsible for majority of the crimes/jails/killings.. now nobody wants to fix that problem...

Gangsterism exists in all cultures. Some wear ties and fake smiles. Some hold political office.

it is in-fact amplified by hip-hop, hollywood.. this is kind of cultural this is what needs to change.

Ah, I see. You do realise that not all hip-hop/rap/grime etc is about violence, yes? And the sections that do focus on violence, focus on experiences in a racist system. If, however, the right is serious about halting the glamorization of violence in Hollywood - maybe they will call for influential Scorsese/Coppola/Tarantino/Peckinpah films to be phased out.

Once this changes and is replaced by hard focus on education (e.g. like asians).. that will auto fix majority of racism, police pull over, jail etc issues..

That old chestnut. If only they behaved like the Asians.

The way to fix racism (right down to obvious dog whistles) is education, integration, community and cultural exchange. No more ghettos, ivory towers, gated communities and no more demagogues egging on fragile minds. A complete overhaul of the police forces is a must. And a willingness to address white privilege.

It's very interesting to see those who were opposed to the tearing down of racist statues and the alleged burning down of cities (no cities were burnt down, in reality) have no problems with the storming of DC historical government buildings.

Impeachment and de-platforming are all well and good, but there needs to be some serious soul searching and addressing the legacy of nativism and bigotry.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Trump himself is now facing in reality the fate he loved to impose on all the losers on his fake-reality TV show. There is no way he will escape the wrath of Washington without being made to pay a very heavy price for his shaming and embarrassing the American political establishment in the eyes of the world with his ignorance and incompetence and shaking their delicate amour propre. We will also soon see America's heavy-handed "two-tier justice" system swiftly move into high gear as the Law metes out the severest punishments to those intruders who gave the lawmakers the fright of their lives while those among the latter who all along seditiously encouraged and groomed these "useful idiots" to protest and wreak mayhem will likely get off scott free since impunity is always reserved only for the privileged in positions of power. "Equal justice under law" never applies to the self-righteous elite "above the law" so the predictable travesty of justice in the form of draconian sentences will only exacerbate the anger, disappointment and desperation of the Foxxed "deplorables" while doing nothing to bridge the gulf between America's haves and have-nots. In the meantime, the next right-wing demagogue will be biding his time in the woodwork until the field of grievances plowed and prepared by Trump is ready to harvest.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Once this changes

You need to go upstream of that, and ensure there are no profits to be made in incarcerating people.

You need to treat America's drugs problem as a medical - not a criminal - issue, to reframe drug use as something sad, not something rebellious.

Education, education, education.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I don't want to even read the article. As a Republican Trumps current actions are an embarrassment to the entire country. Anyone looking in must be shaking their head in disbelief. I am guilty of defending Trumps policies and the laws he enacted and changes he made. Some were good and needed and some Democrats even agree to this. Not all or everything was bad. But his recent behavior is plain flat-out dangerous. I am serious someone take away the football from him. The man has grown mentally unstable and jilted beyond belief. He lost the election. And yes, I do believe election fraud took place on minor scale. But not enough to over turn the will of the of voice of the American people. Enough is enough. Joe Biden got my vote this time as a Republican because it was the safest thing to do. I may not like him. But I know the freaking football is safe in his hands and the chain of command in our military will be quickly restored.

Jesus man duck out gracefully and with dignity and attend the inauguration and smile shake hands and try at least to be a team player. If you had any inclination of running again you have ruined any chance what so ever for anyone to ever take you seriously again in the GOP. I am done with all this. Bring on Biden and the team and lets restore Americas good reputation as Nation of Patriots. I have turned on Trump I admit. Can you blame me? Or others in our party? This is not what Republicans are about. And if it goes further. I will walk away from the GOP. I am dead serious. I never thought I would do that, sat that, think that, but I just may.

Republican's need to get away from Trump. He is toxic to the party.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

He has withdrawal symptoms LOL

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Trump must be punished. Even though impeachment may take too long with only 12 days left until Biden takes office, he and every senator and protester who took part in this coup must be held accountable and severely punished. If not, make no mistake, it would send a message to future despots and power hungry wannnabe leaders to do this again. Next time, it could be even worse. Instead of impeachment, maybe a lengthy incarceration would be more appropriate. These attacks on America's democracy cannot happen again.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

He sent the latest tweets on his @POTUS account after Twitter banned his personal account.

The article should be updated to say that Twitter, like they said they would, also immediately deleted those tweets.

Poor Trump...

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Well, for starters - black people have been subjected to racism and a system that jails and kills them, that was long before 45..

Yes..infact it was far far worse... but the well funded systematic, planned looting, arson and rioting was/is never going to fix racism among others..It will result in political correctness but will never fix the problem. Now to fix this is first to get rid of the gangsta culture in that community which is responsible for majority of the crimes/jails/killings.. now nobody wants to fix that problem... it is in-fact amplified by hip-hop, hollywood.. this is kind of cultural this is what needs to change.

Once this changes and is replaced by hard focus on education (e.g. like asians).. that will auto fix majority of racism, police pull over, jail etc issues..

Impeaching this president for making a speech would do more damage to the Constitution than the rioters, horrible as they were, did last Wednesday," Dershowitz

Dershowitz saying impeaching the criminal Trump will do damage to the Constitution? Naw, impeaching Trump would actually uphold it. Dershowitz is a tool...been drinking the same stupid soup as Giulani.

He fails to see Trump was the leader of a terrorist cell attempting a coup on the legislative branch of the USA, our voting process of democracy, by destroying electoral college votes, so they can declare Trump supreme leader.

No fooling, if they did light the electoral votes on fire, there would be no evidence of victory, anarchy further ensues. This is not only damaging to the Constitution, it would set America into a Civil War, if the GOP and its followers did not completely turn against the terrorist right wingers. Trump, the leader from a group who did a coup d'etat vs. Biden's America, who was elected in a democracy.

And you know how the weasel party works, they'll flip any direction, tell any lie, to swim in their false narratives. If a Civil War happens, side with whomever elects them, and if it is racist, backward country traitors, so be it.

The Trumpian way would be to burn the Constitution itself, and make their own dystopian 'alternative facts' a moving goalpost of rules, at least for the next five minutes, or so.

Trump didn't have to directly order them to do it, but if he agrees and wants to go to the Capitol with them(of course, he bunkered up...that was a lie those idiots believe he'll be right there with him, along with Josh Hawley), then he is the one who is responsible for allowing treason toward our constitution, and the President is impeachable, and should be, Dershowitz, you clown.

Now this!!

WOW!

Its a bit satisfying to know that getting turfed off of social media is probably going to really put a dent into his post White House plans to monetize his base.

Hopefully the need to deal with all his legal troubles will further complicate things.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Sadly, but predictably, degenerated into a media circus.

Alan Dershowitz, who helped represent Trump during his impeachment trial last year, said he would be honored to stand up for the president again, if asked. He said he did not think Trump committed an impeachable offense, and his statement to supporters was not incitement.

"Impeaching this president for making a speech would do more damage to the Constitution than the rioters, horrible as they were, did last Wednesday," Dershowitz, a professor emeritus from Harvard Law School, told Reuters.

All attention is focused on Donald Trump, and the prospect of an 10/11 day impeachment process, the pandemic is secondary, the Biden /Harris inauguration a side show.

Twitter didn't just delete Trumps account, there will be the inevitable accusations of silencing a proportion of his nearly 90 million followers.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

I'm really going to miss Dolt 45.

.

.

Not.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Did he mention Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick yet?

Not sure. I do know he's very big on law and order and blue lives matter.

Well, when it suits him...

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Impeach - but also pursue the 25th Amendment. Trump is clearly deranged - he incited a mass riot and anarchy that killed four people - all in his crazy attempt to overturn democracy.

He needs to hand over the nuclear codes to Pence immediately, and be escorted out of the White House...

We can't have a seditionist and a psychopath as President...

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Trump said he will look at building his own platform.

Hopefully, he can dig his own grave, too, before the public hanging.

(Joke. I, like, most sane people, want to see him serve a life sentence.)

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Did he mention Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick yet?

Another case of it is what it is?

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Trump said he will look at building his own platform.

Airline, casino, university... investors will soon tire of winning

16 ( +16 / -0 )

So what will BLM, Antifa and trolls do now..there use case is over.

Well, for starters - black people have been subjected to racism and a system that jails and kills them, that was long before 45.

Anti-fascism has been about for nearly 100 years, and there will always (sadly) be fascists to fight. So, we're not going anywhere. Let me spell it out - one is either in favour of fascism or one isn't.

As for trolls; they've been around for centuries. Except it was done by spreading rumours to your neighbors, in the press, in the workplace, in the town square. It's heartening, though, that the biggest troll is becoming yesterday's news. His vile influence will hopefully wane, but we must be vigilant and prepared for the next.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Democrats plan impeachment

I hope they follow through. Force all members of congress to go on record either supporting Trump or the republic.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Oh, the poor oppressed billionaire treasonous President.

He's never had any coverage. Ever. So unfair.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Like Nazis, they have to document everything;

Trump Family, Meadows, Guilfoyle, et al., Festively Watching Capitol Assault at Their Private Party

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXr80aqLQFU

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Why impeach?

Because as more news drips out between today and Monday, it will be all too clear that Republican Senators will have no choice but to join the Democrats and remove a very dangerous man from the Office of the Presidency.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

@fourice They are businesses and it’s users the product. Until people realise that and stop surrendering their private info to these businesses then they will continue to have power and influence. These companies should, however, take some responsibility for the lies they spread and the chaos it causes. Covid lies and false news should be removed, there is a difference between free speech and posting malicious and dangerous lies.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

I am pretty concerned that that companies like Twitter and Facebook can control the freedom of speech and could sway politics, be able to control the way people express themselves and think and how much people have gave them power to control their lives. Maybe we should rethink about it... I gave up using Twitter already and Facebook soon.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

So what will BLM, Antifa and trolls do now..there use case is over.

Make the USA better now even for the loser terrorists who invaded the Capital, at least the ones not in jail for their crimes. Trump and his followers have given the Democrats the WH, Senate and House to repair the incredible damage done in the last four years by Trump and his deplorable MAGA mob.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Lets be clear: the best case for Trump is he incites the riot that killed four, one of whom was a cop.

That's the best case.

The more probable case: he tried a coup d'etat.

Either way, there is no way forward with traitors. Trump is a traitor. Half of Republicans support the attack on on Teusday. It is fair to assume that ANY Republican or Trump defender must clarify to us where they stand.

Simply put, you are either with Trump and Insurrection, or you are with America.

16 ( +19 / -3 )

He’s the President, if he wants to say something he can make an announcement, but no, he’s using other Twitter accounts to spew his bile. The man is deranged.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

I think the worst punishment for him at this point

is to have to endure the rest of the presidency with

no access to Twitter.

It's probably about as pure a sense of schadenfreude as anything could be at this time.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

He lost the popular vote in the first election - the people didn't want him.

Then he lost the presidency the second time around. As well as the popular vote.

Then he lost 50 court cases.

Then he lost all his enablers.

Then he lost his Social Media.

He's about to lose his wife.

And he's about to lose all relevance.

What a Loser.

26 ( +32 / -6 )

Where were the national guard? More precisely, why did the Gov of Maryland not get the go ahead from the Secretary of Defense for HOURS?

This sure look like a coup attempt. From the White House.

Remember: Failed coups seem ridiculous, successful ones are terrifying.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

So what will BLM, Antifa and trolls do now..there use case is over.

-35 ( +8 / -43 )

Any normal mature civilized educated dignified person in Trump's current position would resign immediately. But of course that's not Donald J Trump. Regardless of practicality he must be impeached or forced out of office under Article 25 or both. The man clearly has no concept of what he has done to our country despite the forced videos he has released. Hopefully those in Congress who have supported him, now that they know what it's like to be scared for their own lives, will grow a concience and put the Country and the Constitution before politics.

13 ( +19 / -6 )

I think the worst punishment for him at this point

is to have to endure the rest of the presidency with

no access to Twitter.

We all know he will be indicted for various crimes

once he leaves office.
