It's not like he's had over a year to fix Obama's "failed" policies.

Cue cons spouting off abpit bout how long Obama had, because that doesn't change the fact that Dumpster Fire Don had had over a year.

The whole thing seems to have been staged.

Any high school drama club could pull off these soap on mouth videos and reports from a few weeks ago indicated that the rebels were looking for actors in exchange for food.

Cites to these reports?

I actually believe the chemical weapons bother Trump. Not sure why, maybe it’s his tone or the comments themselves, but, to me, he genuinely sounds angry.

That doesn’t mean he will do something smart, just saying he seems different on this topic than others. Maybe he will understand the weight of the office more.

Crushing last pockets of resistance, Assad has tended to use heavier-than-air agents which filter downwards into spaces where populations are hiding. More efficient than high-explosives, and spreading fear in the people, they more speedily help clear out anyone still alive.

He's waiting for tomorrow's Fox and Friends for final decision guidance. Its going to be a heavy Big Mac day at 1600 Pennsylvania.

I am puzzled by Trump's seemingly idiotic tendency to forewarn our adversaries of every action that he is about to take. This behavior only makes sense if you look at it in terms of a pre-orchestrated ballet between Trump and Putin, calculated to give the appearance of punitive action, while actually doing nothing.

This is what happened after the last provocation, when Trump ordered the Navy to launch 36 cruise missiles, which struck a recently abandoned Russian airfield, doing no damage.

Just as the Syrian war seemed to be reaching an endgame we suddenly have the supposed Skirpal gas attack followed by yet more gas attacks in Syria and a full on media push against Russia. The Israelis are bombing Homs while the US is arming ISIS and Al Qaeda yet again. Things are looking really bad, unfortunately.

Alfie, we need some cites to credible sources to back up your claims.

"barbaric" suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria and made clear that all options including military action were on the table.

The actions were barbaric. Unfortunately it's doubtful the world will ever really know for sure who did it. Each of the potential ‘barbarians’ and their backers will point at one of their opponents.

U.N. war crimes investigators had previously documented 33 chemical attacks in Syria, attributing 27 to the Assad government, which has repeatedly denied using the weapons.

But given Assad's history, it could well be he, with perhaps assistance from his 'invited guest nation', should be considered a leading candidate for having a role in this.

Trump's got to decide how much he wants his Moscow hotel. Letting the Russians take control of Syria might help him get the approvals he needs from Putin to build it, but doing that would risk alienating the Saudis and others wanting greater control of MENA’s oil and gas (and their shipment), and of course risk alienating their ‘financial’ backers.

Yep, it must be a false flag attack by the opposition, certainly.

Of course, the syrian army making sure that rebelling against the regime becomes synonymous with horrible deaths of children, that's too far stretched ! Everybody knows that no totalitarian regime has ever tried to terrify a population !

Burning & Alfie: Thanks for those cites.

@ Bibtaro, the problems with your notion that the Syrian army did it to 'punish' the population for rebelling is that the Syrian army deploys the family members of those you are saying that they 'punish' to the forces liberating the population from the 'rebels' who took them hostage, the Syrian army let's the 'rebels' retreat into the backcountry unharmed and unpunished if they let said hostages go, and the Syrian government's closest ally and trading partner feels about chemical weapons the same way that Japanese feel about nuclear weapons. Iran abhors chemical weapons, having been the victim of them, and an Iranian government that turned a blind eye to their use, let alone their use on civilians, wouldn't even last to the next election, it's 'backbenchers' and the opposition would combine to turf it from office.

The problem is collective punishment of the population is a feature of the syrian army.

They can also turn a blind eye AND condemn it at the same time. Iran supported the syrian regime since 2011, and through multiple accusation of using chemical weapons.

What I can’t figure out is where did all these chemical weapons being used today come from? Obama and Kerry assured the world that through their magnificent art of the deal negotiating abilities 100% of these weapons were removed from Syria. Were Obama and Kerry lying? Were they simply deceived as anyone with an ounce of common sense knew they would be? I suspect Obama knew he was being conned but did the deal anyway in order to get out of his failed “red line” gambit. He trusted Putin to remove the chemical weapons and in the process allowed Russia back into a region of the Middle East that they were frozen out of for decades. He simply took the easy out.

Looks lke Obama’s chickens are coming home to roost. Good thing he is safely out of office and doesn’t have to deal with the disastrous fallout of his incompetence.

To all those wanting a military response "on the part of the West", please outline exactly what this response is to consist of.

@Burning Bush, because there is nobody worth trusting in Syria right now. Can't trust the Russians, can't trust the Syrian pro/anti-groups, can't trust Turkey, certainly can't trust Iran, can't trust nobody buddy. The credibility factor in Syria is below -1 on too many sides to count.

The credibility factor in Syria is below -1 on too many sides to count.

The Russian governments' word is no more credible than a crack-ho right now.

Komical Larvov is getting more outrageous each day. And more orange.

The credibility factor in Syria is below -1 on too many sides to count.

The one with the lowest credibility is by far the US. In recent years (decades) they have wrecked several countries with wars that were started on "faulty intelligence" (i.e., lies).

The plot as of now. Last episode, head of good guy expressed the desire to withdraw troops. But after being advised, he abandoned the intention. Bad guys complained good guys took control over oil fields in bad guy's turf. Chemical attack happened. Good guy blamed bad guy. This episode, good guy promises to punish bad guy. Good guy announces that it doesn't need to discuss with knights of the round table before attacking bad guy.

Trump is beating the war drums again. Nothing like a short victorious war to distract attention from his Trump's problems at home. Trump is willing to start WWW III to achieve his ends. Trouble is it could very well become the 2nd Nuclear War.

Bintaro! Exactly right. Finally someone who knows what they are talking about.

@Aly Rustom

I just don't get why people suddenly trust Russia and the Syrian regime all of a sudden ! That's crazy !

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-un-vote/russia-vetoes-u-s-bid-to-form-new-syria-chemical-weapons-inquiry-idUSKBN1HH37O?il=0

Russia vetoed a resolution to investigate the responsibility in the attack.

Why, if they have nothing to hide ?

Exactly!

Russia vetoed a resolution to investigate the responsibility in the attack.

Why, if they have nothing to hide ?

Russia vetoed this faulty resolution that the west tried to introduce as a pretext to carry out their long desired regime change in Syria. Strange that the article you linked to provided no reason for Russia's veto. All one needs to do is to listen to the UN ambassador's statement at the UN:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaE_Y4OQ4kY

The Reuters article also failed to mention that Russia also submitted a draft resolution; it was rejected by the west.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Russia warned the world community that the West is preparing a provocation using chemical weapons. That is why I wonder why everyone was so worried when the provocation was realized. The US again use chemical weapons as a reason to invade another country . The UN should stop the US authorities and not allow them to destroy Syria, as they have already destroyed Iraq, Libya and other countries.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Most of UN will get their arms twisted into going for except the ones receiving the damages. The US is the master if the world. It does what it wants but it needs to look good while doing it. Others are just sitting ducks.
