"It is precisely developed countries like the United States with strong epidemic prevention capabilities and facilities that have taken the lead in imposing excessive restrictions contrary to WHO recommendations,"

Let's be clear here, WHO abdicated its authority when its declaration did not contain any outbreak containment advice. Further it demonstrated its political ties with China in issuing travel advice. Has it forgot what the 'H' stand for in its name?

Evidently, mishandling of severity (medium instead of high risk), 10 days late to declarare a PHEIC, and now embroiling itself in communist politics. It's now transformed itsekf into a What the Heck Organization.

China contained outbreaks by imposing travel bans in its own country. Yet it tells other sovereign nations travel bans is not required, WTF.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

Do the CDC and other government health agencies have the budget to do this while continuing their other important programs after Trump and ilk cut their budgets.

Cut the budgets for health, increase spending for military. More subsidies (aka welfare/socialism for the .01%) for big oil and gas, big defense, big farm and ranch, etc. Trickle on the rest.

10 percent cut for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Chinese stocks fell almost 8%, wiping $393 billion off the value of the Shanghai bourse, the yuan currency had its worst day since August, and Shanghai-traded commodities from oil to copper hit their lower limits - all despite the central bank's injection of 1.2 trillion yuan ($174 billion) into money markets.

I'm no economist, but common sense tells me a global market will be affected by a nation that is the planet's biggest exporter, and one-fifth of the planet's population.

How could it not?

Who says travel bans are unnecessary?? Certainly not I!

Kindly do not travel from contagious epidemics of disease areas using modern mass migration methods.

China should "allow" experts of any nationality, race, or religion to fight this virus as this does not only affect China it affects all of us

4 ( +4 / -0 )

No need? Maybe every country should decide for themselves what is needed to fight this. It’s not like China has the strongest credibility when it comes to things like this.

Gee thanks China. Think you waited long enough?

So, the general advice is keep buying and traveling even at the risk of catching a disease that has the potential to infect millions and cause thousands of deaths....

"There is no reason for measures that unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade," he told the WHO's executive board in Geneva.

Because, of course, the primary concern of the WORLD HEALTH Organization should be international travel and trade!

Of course!

Naturally!!

With all due respect but I won’t waste money traveling to China!

I would love to travel to China, but not just now.

Regarding the practice of imposing travel bans, even China is using them to fight the spread of the contagion, except that the Chinese leadership is using internal travel bans, rather than international ones. Is it right for that country's leadership to criticize other countries for doing what they themselves are doing?

Regarding the efficacy of travel bans, it seems to me just plain common sense to use them, if they are used wisely, and not just because one's leader is a racist nincompoop. In one form or another, the practice of isolating those who are contagious from those who are not yet infected is a method of disease control that has been used for a very long time.

It looks like the Chinese government goofed yet again, but there's also another problem.

Sad to say, but it's always depressing to see stories about Chinese people who knew they had a dangerous virus and going about in public normally or taking vacations abroad anyway. A lot of them just don't seem care that much about causing harm to others. During the SARS outbreak some years ago, there was a Chinese doctor who'd come to Japan and he knew (Yes! He knew!) he had the SARS virus but he visited Japan anyway. He had pictures taken of himself with his arms around unsuspecting Japanese he'd met who had to be tested later. Luckily, none of them had SARS, but the man was a doctor for cryin' out loud. If a doctor with a nasty virus doesn't have enough sense to stay home or check himself in to a hospital, well,....what does that say about the other folks?

You hit the nail on the head!

WHO has been bought over by chinese money since many of its member states have been bought by china. Just take a look at the door to the entrance of the WHO headquarters in Geneva. Whose language is right on top?

The CCP and their huge & fragile ego....
