Trump is right. China is a country of totally different social and economic systems. It is unfavourable for the western countries to compete with them on the same market. Western countries are competing with Chinese government owned or controlled companies.
CrazyJoe
Hypocrite Trump implores US companies to bring manufacturing back to the US, but I have never seen him or any of his family make any move to bring the products they manufacture overseas back to the US. And, I have not seen Trump impose any tariffs on the products made by him and his family overseas.
I don’t have a problem with getting somewhat tougher on China re-trade, intellectual property, etc. I do have a problem with Trump determining how that is done. Trump’s a failed businessman and clown. And he’s failing as president. Big league.
bass4funk
What? Oh, lol....
Well, then you should support Trump, most Democrats, even Schumer want Trump to be extremely tough on China.
Schopenhauer
Exclude China from the western market. They have an ambition to replace U.S. as the world leader.

In a recent op-ed in the New York Times, Economics Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman wrote:
"So if you're trying to make sense of what's happening on trade, you should start with the basic point that Trump has no idea what he's doing, that there isn't any coherent U.S. policy goal."
That, in a nutshell, describes the entire Trump presidency; he has no idea what he's doing.

OK Donnie, but again, do these tariffs include your Trump Store ties and other clothing items you have manufactured in China instead of in US factories with US workers?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYoOPgeTMQc
Does it include all of Ivanka's shoes made in China? The ones in factories that are also sweatshops?
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2017/06/21/china-factory-ivanka-trump-brand-shoes-criticized-labor-violations/103071256/
The big con continues...when will his supporters wake up...
FizzBit
And neither does Krugman. So his opinion is meaningless.
Schopenhauer
Trump is the first president opened the eyes of Americans and warned the world that China is taking over the world economy. Attracted to cheap labor and free land, western companies got trapped in the strategy of China and helped China become the threat of the western companies. Individual western companies only think making profits for them and do not have perspective views of the world. China has to become the same capitalism and democratic country to trade with us fairly.
SuperLib
I just need this idiot to keep his mouth shut for a few days. My company stock options are about to be exercised and he's a threat to the stock market right now.
FizzBit
No they’re not.
Trumps official MAGA hats are made in the US. Unofficial knockoffs/3rd party are made in China.

Come on Trumpers - help explain this to us...
Trump says China is bad, engages in unfair trade, steals intellectual property, cheats...deserves tariffs...
Yet Trump has all his Trump Store ties and other clothing made in China, and Ivanka has her shoe line made in China. Why is he doing business with China if they're so bad?
Why isn't he practicing what he preaches? Why is he giving money to Chinese workers when he could be giving it to Americans? Why is he cheating American workers out of those jobs. Why do American farmers, steel workers, auto workers, etc., all have to suffer but Trump continues on with his Chinese business deals?
We're confused, help us understand....

China has to become the same capitalism and democratic country to trade with us fairly
Waga Nippon is a democratic and capitalist but does it trade fairly.?
bass4funk
He’s not, those people were deported and now they are more careful about the mistake. You should be worried about Feinstein employing Chinese spies as her driver.
Why is it Democrats cannot make jobs in the private sector?
8 years of stagnation and neglect in the blue collar industry has decimated the working class.
SuperLib
China deported Chinese workers at the Chinese factory that makes Trump ties?
gokai_wo_maneku
American companies can't compete in China, hence the big trade deficit. So Trump can only use tariffs. It is completely understandable.
Chip Star
We've been over this repeatedly. Please review the definition of stagnation so you can post accurately about the economy under Obama.
Imagine how amazing the economy would have been under Obama had Bush II left Obama the equivalent of what Obama left Donny.
Chip Star
Obama is a democrat. Obama grew the private sector and shrank the public sector. These facts should sit well with those suffering from Obama Obsessived Disorder.
lincolnman
Uh, I think someone is confusing Trump's scandals - you're talking about Donnie hiring undocumented workers at his properties in the US - and they may still be employed there because ICE hasn't investigated it. THIS scandal is about Donnie having his Trump Ties and other clothing made in factories in Shanghai and Ivanka having her shoes made in two Chinese factories where the wage is one dollar a day. What's up with that?
http://fortune.com/2017/05/18/ivanka-trump-brand-workers-china/
Dodge - why is he giving jobs to Chinese when at the same time he is imposing tariffs on them because they are unfair traders?
These tariffs are putting farmers, steel workers, construction workers, and others out of work - one other Trumper here said that's too bad - it's their fault. You agree with that? More importantly, why is Trump still getting his clothes and shoes made in China giving jobs to Chinese workers when all these American workers will be out of a job?
Why is he rewarding China by having his products manufactured there and at the same time instituting tariffs and trying to punish them? Why didn't he put tariffs on his Chinese made products so they'd be more expensive? Why isn't he practicing what he preaches?
Help us understand....

Yes, we have been sadly.
I try not to imagine, I prefer to stay grounded.

Just for the record
FizzBit
And just for laughs
Maybe Trump increases tarrifs on China because they’re cutting into his hat profits.

China will hit back hard and trump supporters will feel the pain. Exports of Ag products to China will drop to nothing and trump supporting farmers will go bankrupt and lose their farms. Then the big ag companies will buy these farms for next to nothing.
kazetsukai
Of course it will continue, and it must.
Here, the problem is between two nations, but that which affects and effects all nations world wide.
Still the problem is between the two nations regardless of what others may think or do about it.
As much as it appears that it is a "one sided" issue because it was Trump and ther US which "openly" "forced" the trade and tariff issues... It is China that has the actual "problem" of their actual tariff policies and their stance on the entire deal. That was made obvious by the obvious lack of even a slight "finger pointing" by all other nations against China's policies and no "real" opposition to trumps tariffs. They just do not like the "result" of those tariffs that "affect" and "effect" their own economies. So they complain of the "trade war" but not the actual tariff Trump is placing Chinese goods. The other countries, in effect cannot, afford to do so.
kazetsukai
China already is hitting hard at the US via their "occupy and take over" policy with their emigrating population as they did in Canada, Africa and other Asian countries and their buying corporations and real estate within the USA. Even if US gets the added income from the tariffs, there are many Chinese owned companies within the USA (because USA as withg Japan does not limit foreign ownership) are actually benefitting from those exact tariifs. And as stated many time in the pas,t China Towns all over the world "sell" to the local populations but do not assimilate or contribute to local economies other than to have sold their goods to the local population.

Schopenhauer: Exclude China from the western market. They have an ambition to replace U.S. as the world leader. More delusions of grandeur. The US only has the power that other nations allow it to have. The US is part, a cohabitant of the world, not its leader or dictator and this is where all the problems come from; the US wants to be the leader/dictator. When the nations of the globe realize that they have given the US the delusion of greatness, US war mongering will come to an end. Repeat: without its allies the US is a drop in the ocean.

Trump: "We will buy agricultural products from our great farmers in quantities larger than China ever did, and ship it to poor and starving countries in the form of humantarian assistance."
Will be interesting to see who disagrees with this.
PTownsend
Will be interesting to see who believes that. Or anything Trump says.
Say, isn't what Trump's proposing what he and his supporters call 'socialism'?
Serrano
Say, isn't what Trump's proposing what he and his supporters call 'socialism'?
Heh. On one hand, we could call it a bailout - you know, sorta like how Obama bailed out Government Motors.
On the other hand, we could call it a great humanitarian gesture.

So? Has nothing to do trade talks.
