U.S. President Donald Trump hailed"a very special relationship" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un

Seems to me that Trump said the very same thing about one Ms. Stormy Daniels....."a very special relationship"

6 ( +10 / -4 )

"Is it time to play music chair", trump was heard asking.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

A 30-something Kim is playing the "master" negotiator like a hillbilly plays a banjo. If the stakes weren't so high, this would be high comedy, okay?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Only a psycho could get through to a psycho. Keep going Kim.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Nothing nothing much will come of this

Try to look through your biased glasses. How many missiles have flown over Japan since Trump took office? How many times had America talked to NK before Trump?

Peace is a good thing even if you are biased

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Funny how doing something somehow comes off as doing nothing to some individuals on here. Can't please everyone I guess.

Trump certainly is doing something, he is giving the farm away for photo ops.

How many missiles have flown over Japan since Trump took office?

Quite a few, actually. In fact, from the time Trump took office, North Korea launched on 17 different dates, totaling 20 missiles.

There were 12 total attempts during the entire 8 years Obama was in office, of which 4 were either failed launches or just claimed launches.

Statecraft is so nauseating. America has installed, propped up or been bosom buddies with all manner of dictators and butchers over the past century--Truman's famous he's an SOB but he's our SOB springs to mind. Do I trust Trump's motives, of course not, but are they any less repellent than Democratic efforts to sell Libyan intervention on humanitarian grounds, or Afghanistan commitments b/c of women's rights. Empires are vile things. Reducing their worst excesses to partisan sniping is beyond laughable.

Wow, guess you dont live in Japan. If you did, you wouldnt forget this issue so quickly. NK even tested (supposedly successful) an ICBM that could potentially reach the US.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Let's hope President Trump is successful. At least he is trying.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

It’s beginning to look like Trump is going to recognize a nuclear-armed North Korea in exchange for Kim’s promise not to develop ICBM’s capable of reaching the mainland US.. The biggest loser will be Japan.

Trump is a disgusting, ignorant, misogynistic, old, burned out, egocentric hulk of a con man who has no shame and no respect for thousands of people placed at forced labor or exterminated by Kim. Kim is probably the most brutal dictator alive. To see Trump embracing Kim and announcing his love for Kim is an open affront that dishonors untold numbers of American patriots who died on foreign battlefields to keep the world, and our country, free.  This is the same Trump that wouldn't get wet to visit a U. S. military cemetery in France to pay homage to those patriots who died to keep him free. It is beyond all words to describe how disgusting and dangerous he is to us.

Kim is a cunning monster. Trump is a gullible, incompetent negotiator. To allow them to sit together to decide our future makes us a nation of fools.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

"Fell in love", "special relationship", etc...

Kim Jong Un represents the exact opposite of what the US is supposed to stand for. How times change...

France should ask the Statue of Liberty back.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Lot of short memories..... when Obama wanted to Negotiate with the North Koreans.... Republicans derided Obama saying.... we shouldn't Negotiate with Terrorists. Typical hypocritical BS.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Seems to me that Trump said the very same thing about one Ms. Stormy Daniels....."a very special relationship"

This time its different Yubaru. According to Trump, he and his overweight North Korean Mail order bride are in love...

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@jcapan Excellent comment, insightful. And sadly followed by yet more partisan sniping. I used to hold out hope that people would wake up, but now...

There are serious systemic problems in the USA, mostly all being ignored in favor of infantile political jabber.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Nobody has been able to "solve" the North Korea problem, which has been going on for decades.

Whatever anyone thinks of Trump, he hasn't done any worse than those that came before him. He hasn't made any concessions, hasn't delivered pallets of cash to North Korea, hasn't eased sanctions, hasn't done anything that has benefited North Korea. Other than meeting with Kim.

I have no issue with anyone that detests / despises Trump, but at this point, better that they are talking than missiles flying overhead. I remember how the pundits were concerned that Trump's aggressive language towards Kim in the early days of his Presidency would start a nuclear conflict. Now he is criticized for talking to Kim.

Dunno, just find that people's strong views regarding Trump tend to colour their objectivity. Seems that we should all hope that peaceful conversations with North Korea continue, particularly if there are no concessions / appeasement involved.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Someone who wants to operate like a dictator, wants to build monuments to themselves... yeah of course they get along...

Zones2surf, its certainly a different approach to the past, and who knows perhaps it will result in something useful, but with China having some much influence over North Korea the end goal will be to have the US less present in the region which is bad news for South Korea and Japan. Its a really complex situation... and none of this so far goes on to any conversation about the treatment of the North Korean people.

I believe there should be no ongoing offers of aid to any country unless they embrace human rights for all their citizens.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Sorry I wanted to add, you know people can do something right and be very wrong about something else.

Newton, as well as helping establish physics also was into alchemy...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I believe there should be no ongoing offers of aid to any country unless they embrace human rights for all their citizens.

I'd hope the human rights issue would be top of the agenda, but with the two players involved, that seems unlikely.

I believe there's something like $10 million in aid still getting through to the DPRK from Christian groups in the US.

https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/sending-aid-north-korea-often-means-inadvertently-helping-kim-jong-ncna907186

Is this a good or bad thing, I wonder.

If Trump brings Peace to Asia, as it seems likely now, he will surely deserve that Nobel Prize later in the year. PM Abe will be eyeing the Summit closely and be very pleased. Chairman Kim has shown himself as a great Leader too, and has changed forever direction of NK.

The only piece missing now is the release of the kidnappees.

There's nothing great about these two authoritarian criminal leaders. The people behind the scenes are those who deserve credit, if anything good comes out of the talks.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Chairman Kim has shown himself as a great Leader too

Oh yeah, all my Japanese family, friends and colleagues say this all the time. They repeat whatever Donnie says on NHK. Setting aside the forgotten abductees and high likelihood that Kim will maintain missiles capable of striking Japan, since when does diplomacy mean literally gushing over your murderous enemies.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Try to look through your biased glasses. How many missiles have flown over Japan since Trump took office?

More in Trump's first year than in eight years of the Obama administration.

How many times had America talked to NK before Trump?

How many American presidents were stupid enough to validate the dictator of NK and give him propaganda before Trump?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Diplomacy is always preferable to the alternative.

But the participants must be serious and committed to making progress - not in search of a photo op in hope of some peace prize down the road, or to further hypnotize your country's citizens into thinking you are your grandfather...

Trump is not mentally capable of negotiating any agreement as complex as this - and he's too arrogant and stupid to listen to any of his foreign policy experts...

He's "The Apprentice" - and the danger is he'll cave on some key deterrent of lever to change nK behavior - and they'll keep their nukes and can threaten to use them any time they don't get their way.

And you have China thinking and acting long term - they want the US out of Korea, out of Japan, and with ruptured defense ties to Taiwan, the Philippines, and Australia. Xi's hand is behind all of nK's moves.

Trump is too stupid to understand any of this - because it's all beyond "fifth or sixth grade level"....

It might be a good idea to have a simple test for memory issues. Sometimes being disoriented on time are signs.

Did they eat Kimchi, Pho or steak?

How many missiles have flown over Japan since November 2017?

Zero.

To see Trump embracing Kim and announcing his love for Kim is an open affront that dishonors untold numbers of American patriots who died on foreign battlefields...

The Vietnamese are certainly giving Kim a warm welcome. I don't see you criticizing them, Crazy.

Trump is trying to bring peace to Korea, while Democrats are obsessed with lawyers who are proven liars and the hot women Trump has slept with.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Kim always looks so happy in the photos.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Real wise words by Serrano.

Chairman Kim and Trump are working hard to do a deal, to make Asia safe for all. Give peace a chance.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Only a psycho could get through to a psycho. Keep going Kim.

You mean unstable and violent? Perhaps you have a post-doctoral degree in psychology? Or were you in too much of a hurry to comment? You lost that race by 17 minutes.

Would you accept “of limited conscience”?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Nothing nothing much will come of this”

-Except that you sleep safer every night knowing no NK missiles fly over Japan.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Abe is closely monitoring the meeting on TV.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

No hate for any of the comments above, and some are truly insightful, but there also exists an intellectual ego competition that is counterproductive.

That’s why we’re stuck peole. Let’s work together not argue. I’m hopeful and apprehensive during this time in history as are most of us. So let’s focus our collective mind on solutions.

Cheers

How many missiles have flown over Japan since Trump took office?

Actually, to those who may lack education, no missiles have flown over japan. Unless you believe japan is situated in space or the earth is flat.

how about to support the de-escalation of war? USA did 3 nuclear tests at the end of last year. NK=0.

just be friends.

'Worse Than Nazi Camps.' New Report Details Gruesome Crimes Against Humanity at North Korean Prisons.........

http://time.com/5060144/north-korea-political-prisons/

How can any Government build any trust from a regime that's capable of committing such heinous crimes against its own people. Kim Jong Un is guilty of genocide.

And Trump said late last year he and Kim "fell in love" …......Enjoy your dinner

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Got to love these unbiased media articles. Now they are lambasting Trump for using diplomatic language. So what is he supposed to do? Insult Kim on the world stage? Yeah, that would be a brilliant idea. Of course, in that case, the media would blast him for being incompetent.

Of course, the neocon and neolib warmongers and their media mouthpieces hate any move to peace.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Here is an interesting fact.

The remainder of the summit has been canceled. Trump and Kim cancel the rest of the summit and the nuclear weapon singing pact that they were both supposed to sign will no longer be signed.

I guess things didn’t go well in Vietnam.

These reports are now circulating amongst all major news circles.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

lol such a pointless PR stunt, the world hardly even noticed and could care less about this whole charade.

I remember the first meeting, the whole world was watching and media coverage was live nonstop.

Now, just a brief mention on the local news. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Will he meet Maduro next? No he isn't able to threaten the US in any way.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Live broadcast from guardian journalists......

Trump’s motorcade is on the move after abruptly departing the Metropole hotel where the summit was being held. We’re expecting him to arrive at the Marriott hotel for the press conference shortly.

Constant updates....

Sure, let's heap praise on the man who murdered his brother, and who has his "enemies" tied to the receiving end of artillery pieces, and then blown to bits.

As much as I dislike DT, I would say on this issue with KJU, he's seems to have broken a stale mate that has eluded other willing or unwilling presidents in the past. The stand off and tension, threat has decreased dramatically over the last past year or so between the two countries, which is good new for every one. I feel there is a total imbalance in power or nuclear destruction capability, KJU has some nukes, so does DT, what I would like to see DT undertake is reduce some of his stock pile of nukes.
