So a waste of time really, as no progress whatsoever was made. In fact this has just bought NK time to upgrade their nuke capabilities in the background until at least the olympics are done. Well done to SK for achieving nothing and reinforcing NKs nuke program

Surprise!

Did anyone expected something else ?

"All our weapons, including atomic bombs, hydrogen bombs and ballistic missiles are only aimed at the United States, not our brethren, nor China and Russia," Pyongyang's chief negotiator, Ri Son Gwon, said.

Ok..............

The United States, which has 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea as a legacy of the 1950-1953 Korean War......

.........and what do these US and ROK troops do when lil' Dumplin starts chucking missiles at the US? Wave?... don't think so. If NK goes hostile toward anyone, it will have to include SK.

this is good news. if america leaves, north and south can get along. nukes as long as just used as a deterrent to USA(I'm against all nukes), then de-escalation can happen and i can invest in NK's vast rare metals and be soooo rich.

Can't agree more. But I believe you'd better invest in SK's construction companies too.

No surprise. And of course, all the Kim Jong-Un sympathizers/CCP lackeys that hate Japan and make money off of that hate will blog about how "this is a good thing"... "The USA and Japan must accept it"... "Finally the Korea's are working together"... Which, as we all know, is crap. Anyone who ever seeks anything but the immediate destruction of Kim Jong-Un supports him as a sadistic killer who rapes the slave-subject 25 million population of North Koreans for his own personal benefit. Even if he was not attempting to develop nuclear weapons with which to terrorize other nations, even if he was not renound for killing any competition, he must be ended for the simple fact that he hold hostage an entire nation of people who are shot in the back just for trying to leave the living hell he keeps them in. Go ahead and explain how placating him is a good thing.

Well, that didn't take that long did it.

N.K seems to think they hold all the aces but its pretty delusional. There are two massive problems with their thinking. Firstly, all the U.S has to do is make one decision and it changes the entire calculation.

"You trade with N.Korea, in any way, you do not trade with the United States"

That's it. One sentence and the game changes completely.

China, Russia & South Korea might hold out against that, but every other country will fall in line with the U.S. And its only that loss of trade with China which will give the Americans some serious short-medium term problems, none of which are insurmountable. Perhaps even a benefit long term when its all said and done.

Secondly, a permanently nuclear armed North Korea, I would suggest, puts enormous pressure on Japan to go down the same path given the ill feeling towards Japan by North & South Korea. Many people in the LDP would be extremely reluctant to rely on the U.S and its nuclear umbrella. With China and Russia you feel its different because you feel the leadership is sane. Kim-Jong-un kills members of his own family. He is a nutter and can never be trusted in any way and that's before you even consider that historical ill will.

You seem to think that the US holds all the aces, but let's see your theory through:

USA says "You trade with N.Korea, in any way, you do not trade with the United States"

China gets caught trading with N. Korea

USA cuts off all trade with China

USA economy collapses

You didn't think that all the way through, did you?

I think you could finesse it somewhat to allow China to achieve its key objective, which is a stable North Korean regime without an all out trade war. In fact that is the current position. All the U.S really has to do is maintain that and warn China, along with any other country, that if trade goes above and beyond present levels to North Korea, then trade to the United States is cut off either instantly, if possible, or over a long time frame if necessary to allow U.S companies time to adjust.

It all depends on how serious the U.S is about this and under Trump, who knows. In fact even under Hillary we might been looking at a more aggressive U.S, just without the tweets.

Completely understandable considering the us completely destroyed an already severely damaged and weakened Pyongyang in 1951. You reap what you sow.

I experienced insanity in Vietnam and Cambodia for lifetimes and wish to suggest solutions

First, let's see what we have on the table -

DPRK wants US troops out of SK, US and allies to cease military exercises

USA pressures China to pressure DPRK,

China say it will only cooperate if US endorses Taiwan's return to China

citing Bob Marley's one love policy,

DPRK says it will dismantle it's prisons holding 200,000

if USA does likewise with its 2-3 million incarcerated

USA demands end to Kim dynasty

DPRK say ok if USA its dismantles its own dynasties Scientology, LDS, pedophile sheltering religions,

all other cults and ceases hiring Tom Cruise and John Travolta to star in films.

USA wants DPRK nuke free,

DPRK says ok if USA does the same, dismantles its approx. 200 bases globally and stops all its wars

USA demands Marshal Kim face justice

DPRK demands same conditions for Marshal Kim as faced by Idi Amin,

permit Brother Kim him to have as much land in DPRK as he wants and all followers who wish to remain loyal

Japan says it wants info on alleged but not proven abduction of a dozen or so Japanese,

DPRK says ok if Japan allows thousands of left-behind-fathers of kids kidnapped by Japanese mothers

access to their kids,

Are we making progress?

My proposals -

Let me project manage building casinos all over DPRK, turn prisons and torture chambers

into tourists attractions like in Cambodia, let me open and manage exotic dance clubs nationwide

to generate billions of $ in annual revenue and let me create DPRKPop groups for even more revenue.

Let Dennis Rodman establish Pyongyang Globetrotters basketball team.

Marshal Kim will have lifetime carte blanche access to all of these fine establishments.

problems solved - give peace a chance

USA cuts off all trade with China

USA economy collapses

No it won't. Anything and everything that China provides for the US can (and is being) obtained from other countries. China's low labor cost advantage has been diminishing this decade as other up and coming nations seek to fill that gap. In contrast, at USD 462.8 Billion, the United States is the world's biggest buyer of Chinese exports. Cut off trade, and China collapses. Or in their case, the CCP dictatorship either starts a war somewhere or shoots down it's own rioting citizens.....Again.

While everyone else in the world continues to trade with China. So the US puts themselves at a disadvantage with trade compared to every other country, and in the turmoil of forcing all businesses in the US that use Chinese suppliers (read: most businesses) to find new suppliers, and the stock market crashes, followed by a crash of the economy.

You people really have no clue as to the degree to which the US economy is dependent upon trade with China, whether directly, or further up the line from other countries trading with the US but using Chinese products.

Like it or not, the Chinese have maneuvered themselves into a position where people may not like them, but they also can't stop trading with them. It would take decades and decades to truly sever ties with China.

I just think that if you give the Chinese what they want, stability in their northern borders, then they would see no need to provoke the U.S and poke them in the eye by having a proper relationship with what are 25 million poor North Koreans. I would be kind of whacky, strategically, for China to go down that path.

In saying that, I do feel they will attempt to circumvent those restrictions if they see a particularly shiny prize, like perhaps those rare earth metals someone mentioned previously. That sort of thing needs to be watched extremely closely.
