BB, yes, very nasty in not a good way. While no love's lost for Erdogan, the precedent of applying tariffs simply for currency depreciation is not good. It's likely not only illegal under US law but against WTO rules.

Trump can't help himself, but there's gotta be people in his government who can rein in his more reckless impulses - because this will likely not just return to bite America in the butt but the entire global trade system.

Trump versus Erdogan? I have to admit to not knowing which is worse in this fight.

As long as one of them loses, we win.

So it's ok if Turkey's economy crumbles because Trump and Erdogan are having a spat? I wouldn't count that as a win.

Erdogan is "purging" still

more than 130,000 people sacked from their jobs in the military, police, civil service and academia. Tens of thousands more face charges.

He got the constitution in Turkey altered to give him power over the judicial part of govt and the ability to rule by decree. That effectively makes him a 1-man govt with no checks.

When he was PM, my vacationing group in Turkey got tear gassed.

If I lived there, I would have moved all my money off shore that I could and kept 1-2 yrs of living expenses local in precious metals to be converted as needed. Turkish citizens need to get ready for hyper-inflation.

Erdogan is bad for Turkey, Trump's bad for America. If they both lose, it's a win-win for the world. Tariff or Treat? Halloween's come early for Erdogan! Trump's turn will come a little later when long, tall Bobby rings his bell!

Trump found a hammer in the form of tariffs and now he thinks everything is a nail.

What a dink.

Erdogan is going down.

Don't complain, 6 years and maybe the left (if they get their act together...yeah, right) they might be able to take the WH.....maybe....

I can see Turkey as the next Venezuela. Wouldn't take much more before Turks flee their own country, although they are a pretty proud bunch and not afraid of putting their heads in the sand when it comes to standing up to a poor government. Let's wait and see. Patience, people.

Mixed feelings. Erdogan is scum, but I don’t want to see the Turkish people suffer. But he really is scum.

lets see should I side with the US or Turkey... ummm no brainer good luck Turkey! Trump is doing a great job finally a US President with guys to do the right thing

Erdoğan is and always has been, bad for Turkey and he scoffs in the faces of his NATO allies. I know you Trump hating liberals will be out in force thumbing down anything other than negative about him, but the man's getting things done and has a set of kahunas the size of watermelons!

Erdogan is a vile dictator and this might go against him, dictators normally get shafted when the economy fails and people suffer.

People will die, no matter what happens.

Trump's reckless actions have finally found a country not resilient enough to withstand. But it could also take down Erdogan, so that's a clock is right twice a day kinda thing. A fluke move by Capt Carrot Head

After Erdogan crushed what appeared to be a fascist coup attempt (this 'new order' crap - I saw it live on the Internet a few years ago) he's been persecuting everyone he claims was part of that coup attempt. He's jailed thousands of fellow Turks without due process. He's a jerk just like the coup plotters and just like the racist kidnapper spankee boy Benedict Donald.

Burning BushToday 07:02 am JSTAmerica is basically at war with Turkey at this point.

America sponsored the coup attempt and it failed because the Russians gave Erdogan a heads up.

Now things are getting nasty.

Trump won't do anything bad to Turkey unless Putin tells him it's OK.

"President Tayyip Erdogan told Turks on Friday to sell their gold and dollars to support the crumbling lira"

Don't think the majority of Turks are gonna do such a dumb thing.

"Trump versus Erdogan? I have to admit to not knowing which is worse in this fight."

I'll give you a hint - Erdogan.

"As long as one of them loses, we win."

Bwahahahaha, whichever one loses, makes no difference, right, Super? Bwahahahaha

"Trump's bad for America"

What was the unemployment rate and economic growth numbers again?

"Trump found a hammer in the form of tariffs and now he thinks everything is a nail."

You don't understand 4D chess like Trump does, Crazy.

You can be sure that the crooked Erdogan family will certainly not be converting their stolen funds into Lira: that's something only fools would do.

Whereas most of the worlds economists are now in favor of a concept they call "win-win," Trump seems set to play by the zero-sum mindset. In his world view, there is only so much to go around, and by rights it should belong to ugly old white men. In other words, he is playing a "lose-lose" game, where no one wins.

You're so wrong. Trump knows there is great potential for vastly more economic development and prosperity and his policies can enable people of all races and nationalities to prosper. But America First. Is that so wrong? Every leader of every country should be looking out for their own people first.
