"Cases" is a meaningless statistic. How about looking at actual hospitalizations, deaths, recoveries.....

Let's use Florida as an example, as in the article. The state is well BELOW the national average in per capita deaths due to corona, especially compared to places like New York and New Jersey. Yet gets highlighted in the article.

Infections and viruses spread regardless of what people do. This is just another- perhaps more contagious but also perhaps less lethal.

The article is talking about the current situation. The fact that Florida has the greatest number of active infections in the US right now, combined with an infection and death curve which very steep and doesn’t look like it will flatten any time soon, could have a lot to due with the state being “singled out” as you say.

US has a population of 330 million, the number of people died from the virus stands at 151,000 today, that is 450 deaths per million people. Respectively, the figures for China are 1,440 million, 4600 deaths, and 3 deaths per million.
