@Burning Bush This article helped convince a Trump supporting friend of mine who was calling it a hoax and the Dem's fault, etc.

@BB

The main reason is that there

is no vaccine for virulent Nocov-19.

My Chinese language colleague paints a horrifying picture of what actually is going on in her home town Harbin. Her mother who had surgery is locked away in her housing complex with no one being allowed in or out of it, WiFi just went down, no ambulances around, internet food deliveries stopped, and no postal deliveries on top of that so her food packages to her mom never arrived. Hong Kong is getting worse so maybe this reality is what caused China to expelled those American reporters.

Nothing to sneer at of course but the CDC reports that on any given year, something between 12,000 to 60,000 Americans due from flu complications.

The CDC is also predicting up to 1.6 million Americans would die from this if everyone listened to this drivel you have been pouring out.

There was particular alarm in Italy, which has experienced an unusually high death rate - nearly 3,000 from 35,713 cases. It has called on student and retired doctors to help an overwhelmed health service.

Italy may soon outnumber China about its death toll. Obviously there is serious shortage of medical staff. In combating infectious disease, doctors and nurses must protect and care **themselves first, above any other people concerned.** If one of them get infected, all his/her neighboring co-workers are subject to isolation and quarantine; such mass exit would desert hospital floors, suffer serious manpower shortage, with many patients left untreated, only to wait to die.

Unfortunately this is what has happened in Italy and earlier in Wuhan, China, as quite many medical professionals appear among confirmed cases and death victims.

Well, I'm confused....

I've been watching Fox News and they all say this virus is nothing but a hoax to take down our King, errrr, I mean President.

Sean Hannity says its "just to “bludgeon Trump with this new hoax.”

Pete Hegseth says “I feel like the more I learn about this, the less there is to worry about.”

Fox News medical correspondent Marc Siegel said that the “worst case scenario” with coronavirus is that “it could be the flu.”

Trish Regan claimed coronavirus is “yet another attempt to impeach the president” as “the chorus of hate being leveled at the president is nearing a crescendo.”

Jesse Watters argued that “the power of positive thinking” can beat coronavirus.

Rush Limbaugh says its "nothing but the common cold"

How can deaths be surging when the only media outlet I trust says otherwise?

Must be a world-wide MSM/Liberal hoax - let me check the QAnon site to get the real truth...

The CDC is also predicting up to 1.6 million Americans would die from this if everyone listened to this drivel you have been pouring out.

And what they don't tell you is this is their conservative estimate to avoid really panicking the public.

@Burning Bush

I think some rational thinking is in order.

Perhaps you should take your own advice. I agree with your point that panic will make things worse. But I also understand that your denial and complacency will also make things worse.

Well, so much for that "great" Trump economy...

Stock market is now at the same level as when he came into office in Jan 2017 - zero growth...

GDP estimated at a low 2% before the virus, now it will likely be negative growth...which would mean downward GDP for 2018-2019-2020...

His stumbling and bumbling with the virus response means that, as an example, 80/90% of hospitality workers will lose their jobs. Wonder what that means for the hospitality workers at Mar-A-Lago and other Trump properties?

Welcome to the Trump Recession...

Nothing to sneer at of course but the CDC reports that on any given year, something between 12,000 to 60,000 Americans due from flu complications.

So why do we go into mega panic mode this year when every other year we go about our normal business while far more people die from influenza.

You do realize that this disease is still spreading and deaths are increasing?

Two months ago it was "Oh it's only a couple of dozen cases, the flu kills a bajillion people every year. It'll be fine" Then a month ago it was "oh it's only a couple of hundred cases, the flu kills squillions of people every year. It'll be fine."

Now it's thousands of cases and you're still spouting the same nonsense. When cases in your country exceed the tens of thousands, what will you say?

"Flatten the curve" or more people die

Covid-19 is almost 2x contagious and has 10x the mortality rate

Here's a cool visual about flattening the curve:

Will Trump be offering one of his hotels or golf clubs?

He might consider that if he can charge the taxpayers $650. per room per night. But given how poorly maintained some of his properties are, it could be no one would want to stay there.

noriahojanen - Italy may soon outnumber China about its death toll.

Since it's impossible to tell what China's actual numbers are, it would be almost impossible to tell if Italy's outnumber China's.

Fuzzy - And what they don't tell you is this is their conservative estimate to avoid really panicking the public.

If they are not telling you, how do you know this is their conservative estimate?

Compare and contrast a truly heartfelt and surprisingly sensible speech from Varadkar to the nation of Ireland, the other day, and the bombastic war nonsense from the US guy.

Quite stunning.

China, the epicenter of this biblical catastrophe, still has a lot of questions to answer for. And it's not been very forthcoming.

If the Chinese government doesn't answer for, which means allowing the UN to come in and investigate, then how can the rest of the world ever trust them after this?

Now is the time to investigate what the hell happened here while the evidence is still fresh, not later when it becomes a cold case riddled thereafter with conspiracy theories.

Well, we are sort of at war with this virus. And with all the ressources that all governments are throwing at this, I expect there will be treatment protocols available sooner than we think now.

Never thought I would agree with one of your comments once, but here we go.

I've been watching Fox News and they all say this virus is nothing but a hoax to take down our King, errrr, I mean President.

Who is "they"? I only see snippets of that channel on Youtube, but have not come across anyone there calling the virus itself a hoax, or Trump a king. The way the swamp tries to blame everything on Trump, yes that is absolutely a hoax, following the dictatator hoax, the Russia hoax, the racist hoax, the Ukraine hoax and all the other BS they have been trying to throw at the guy. Yes, I suppose you have to be pretty confused not to see that.
