Is Trump playing the role as mole-whacker-in-chief, whacking away based on his 'gut feel', randomly smacking the hammer down to create more chaos and uncertainty, further tearing down global relationships for his (and his globalist faction's) benefit, is he targeting industries whose leaders haven't supported him to hurt them, or is he targeting industries he's invested in to further enrich himself and his family while he's in office?

If he'd open up his tax forms, the public could have a better idea. What's he hiding? Which international 'financiers' have his family members got 'loans' from?

normally, I would welcome such a move as I feel China has been pushing its weight around on the global stage, but with Trump alienating his allies, he has weakened the US and put China in a stronger position to deal with this.

good. when you are billions of dollars on the short end of any deal, you have nothing to lose.

Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act coming soon! Depression Part 2!

Looks like American farmers will be growing Marijuana crops in the future.

I wonder why the Dotard is only putting tariffs on consumer goods, and not more lucrative things, like financial technology. Could it be because this way he gets to look like a nationalist to his base while only harming their economy, without harming the interests of his financiers and more powerful moneyed special interests?

("The first choice is cooperation and mutual benefit.")

Mr. Wang, would you say that again about mutual benefit. Do you understand the meaning of mutual benefit?

It is my opinion that China will not put retaliatory tariffs on pork from the US, as China now owns one fourth of all pork in America with their Smithfield Hams labels.

Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a meat-processing company and wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China.

Trade deficits are not necessarily bad, nor are they directly tied to tariffs. However, a tit-for-tat trade war will most certainly affect everyone badly. That's what's to lose.

Its all handbags at 10 paces at this point.

Trump has been threatening and annoying everyone but as yet the only reality is steel and aluminium tariffs for some countries and a temporary cessation of S.K/U.S exercises.

That's about it. Fairly small beer tbh.

We shouldn't get too carried away with the hysteria of Trumps nonsense.

In saying that, his nonsense needs to be monitored and all alliance countries should be looking at strengthening ties among themselves and promoting the TPP in S.E Asia and South America.

If the U.S keeps going down this path, the best way to hit the U.S is the defense industry. If alliance countries made a move for more European hardware, even helped build up Japanese and South Korean hardware, the U.S would take notice. Could even be an opportunity for some low end Aus defense sales, like Bushmasters and the Hawkei.

good. when you are billions of dollars on the short end of any deal, you have nothing to lose. lol when EU China Japan Canada Mexico all impose similar tarriffs on those red states well see whos going to loose. You be surprised what job loses , mortgage defaults and home repos do to change the minds of your supporters, especially when you started the trade war .

It is my opinion that China will not put retaliatory tariffs on pork from the US, as China now owns one fourth of all pork in America with their Smithfield Hams labels. even if they didnt they can easily do it on soy, beef and many other imported grains. make no mistake China will respond and itll be mostly on red states

China owns American debt, so if the trade war deepens, China can just simply crash the American stock market and send America into a 1930's depression.

And yet Dotard just got some trademarks for the sweatshop labor for the fashion clothing line run by his daughter/girlfriend. He's just flapping his big mouth like PAC-MAN again. Doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo doo-doo dooooooooo-ooo!

Steel and almuminum affect everything from cars to the defense industries so I don't think its small beer. Plus, we still don't know what the retaliation will be. And there will be. And from there its going to snowball out of control. That's my guess anyway.

We shouldn't get too carried away with the hysteria of Trumps nonsense.

Not carried away- but we should be very concerned.

If the U.S keeps going down this path, the best way to hit the U.S is the defense industry.

The defense industry will already be affected by the tariffs Trump put himself. anyway we are already seeing similar tariffs on US steel so its starting.

If alliance countries made a move for more European hardware, even helped build up Japanese and South Korean hardware, the U.S would take notice. Could even be an opportunity for some low end Aus defense sales, like Bushmasters and the Hawkei.

I agree. Its a good idea. Never put your eggs in one basket

I just wish he had targeted China without targeting Europe and Nafta. Then he could have gotten everyone on board and then slapped tariffs on those which didn't impose tariffs on China. Had he done that, he would have alot more credibility..

That is a very good point.

Some people know as much about fair trade, as I do building a space rocket. Zero!

Some people know as much about fair trade, as I do building a space rocket. Zero! ive been exporting over 20yrs. fair trade is just what is means, no unfair tariffs or subsidies to support industries that make prices artificially low, making it unfair for competing countries/ industires or companies. America is the most heavily subsidies agriculture and automaker in the world, unless they address that then nothing will change. America already enjoys trade surpluses with Canada and the UK yet still applies tariffs on them. Fair trade is about looking at the whole picture not some fake distorted one made to look like your the victim.

They own 18% of U.S debt. Its also the case that Japan owns almost the same.

And if they sell off in a hurry that do themselves considerable damage. There are a lot of reasons for that.

This idea that China can kill the U.S through debt is very over-hyped.

Trump no longer believes that Beijing's influence over North Korea is a compelling reason to ease up on trade talks now that his administration has opened up a direct line of communication with the nuclear-armed country

Are you serious? You really think that after just one meeting with NK they'll forget about the Chinese powers behind them and become America's BFF instead? That's just not gonna happen.

Thank you zichi, the meeting between Trump and Kim was a step in the right direction. The Trump haters are so blinded with hate, they cannot see this.

I guess you would have to include Trump in that too then. He's previously a media personality and real estate developer.

That's right now. 'Media personality' - harasses and belittles other people, and fondles the females.

'Real estate developer' - lawsuits for discrimination against Blacks and others, and don't forget EIGHT BANKRUPTCIES. Yeah, big time.

How does that work?
