What the US expects and what actually happens will be two different things. From the sound of that statement, some officials think the US has won. That cant be further from the truth. America expects everyone to dance to its tune and give ground in disputes before it does anything itself. Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, EU have all at some time faced this type of arrogant behavior. Japan will face it to in trade talks.

Make an agreement with no concrete details or timeline. Is that in The Art of the Deal? It's a bit like what Trump got out of NK - basically nothing but a photo opportunity. Expect the same from China. They are no fools and know they've just been given a 6 month free pass for nothing. They wouldn't have been able to match the US with further tariffs and now have no real reason to give ground.

That can mean 0.001% reductions over the next 100 yrs, when converted to Chinese.
I'll be amazed if true non-Chinese corporate ownership ever happens. Until the "chops" are controlled by non-Chinese, it means nothing.

I'm old enough to remember when the WH employed actual economists and experts on trade. Larry Freaking Kudlow is nearly as stupid as Trump.

Oh, OK. Well come back when you have a deal.

Im sure there will be some concessions. China, in the short term, is not operating from a position of strength. Service and nanufacturing pmi almost in contraction. Export orders at 8.month low, depreciating currency, projected growth figures cut. Many elements of economic activity shows a slow down.
And if concessions are not made what incentive would Trump have to reign in tariffs?.None. And every political excuse he needs to raise them and expand them, likely with more support inside his party and the Democrats than he has now.

Matt Hartwell..... That was well said.

Let’s see and wait. Anyway, it’s only a short time away.

China is in the driver's seat on this one.
