No Chinese land is threatened. On the other hand, international waters are threatened by China building fake islands and calling them "Chinese" "land". Just because somebody once drew some lines on a map of the S China Sea, that doesn't mean anything.

Zhongnanhai "score leader" is right. All territories under sky belong to Xi Jin-ping. Have you recently mentioned the border land that Russia occupied with Putin, the Russian "score leader?" It's quite large, isn't it? 1.5 million square kilometers.

Tell that to Japan, who is one of the nations engaged in the disputes China is talking about. Exact same behaviour, all based on lines either they drew, or McCarthur drew for them to try and position themselves better against "the Red Menace".

Smith:

Maybe to some extent but the Chinese version of that game is particularly egregious.

Country disputes territory shocker!

Xi is just playing to the crowd. Get that nationalist fever raging.

He seems to have been doing a lot of that lately. Is he under pressure?

As China becomes the number one superpower; I'm guessing that there is enormous pressure to be seen as strong. His belligerence in speeches is probably measured against the current WH incumbent. To be perceived as anything else would be seen as a weakness. There's a lot of loud, alpha male voices at play in the world today.

It's not good.

"....we absolutely do not engage in invasion.....

Tell that to Tibet, and Vietnam. Hopefully the Communist leaders will be wise enough to wait and see if Taiwan ever wants to rejoin with it. Given the current state of freedom in China, it is understandable if the Taiwanese do not want to repeat what happened to Hong Kong.

The Chinese people treasure peace and we absolutely do not engage in invasion and expansion

Tell that to the Tibetans. China has progressively expanded over the last 2.5 millennia. It is still seeking to nibble away at the borders (long term view taken, guess were their borders will be in another 2.5 millennia?).

In his speech, Xi also emphasized that the military's highest loyalty is to the ruling Communist Party

And so maintain its "democratic" grip on power by the threat of force. Sadly I see nothing good in Asia for a long time to come, the countries bordering China will do well if they can even keep a semblance of independence.

Xi says China will never permit loss of any piece of land

Did he really? And that includes land that never belonged to China in the first place. That is called the China perspective. The man is full of ...

So, the will of the people living on the land has no bearing? Good to know.

Taiwan and (Hong Kong and Macau) are completely different situations. HK and Macau were rentals.

China becoming the "number one super power" in the 21st century would destine human history to one as if Nazi Germany had become the number one superpower in the 20th century. They could probably have if the CCP had evolved, but they didn't. Just economic and military might alone isn't enough.

Tell that to the Tibetans.

And to the Americans who agrees that Tibet is part of China.

Tell that to the Taiwanese too!

And to them Americans too who unceremoniously cut-off diplomatic ties with the democratic island nation and help kick them out of the UN and still prevents TW from joining the world body now as we speak!

Tell that to the Ryukyuans today!

Where the Amerikano colonizers are still squatting on Ryukyuan land thereby extrajudicially expanding their territory under the guise of a treaty with another colonizer from Tokyo.

This forcible squatting of Ryukyuan land which is converted to giant military bases officially makes Okinawa the Crimea of Asia.

What does that mean? that 1/6th of the world's population are under the control of the CCP dictatorship? Or that 1/6th of the world's population are ethnically Han Chinese, regardless of where they reside?

The chinese speak with a forked tongue (lie).

Can't buy China's land no no no. So what happens to land in Australia when China buys our farms.. Dose this mean they'll defend them with their army if i jump a fence ?

Thousands of hectares of Communist land in Australia.

Looks like the Peoples Republic of China wants to start a war. The Peoples Republic is trying to scare other nations into doing nothing while promising peace if only these nations will give up more land. It looks like Nazi Germany just before WII. The free nations of the world have to stop giving into the two Peoples Republics.
