YouTube may be free in Japan, but in the US it isn't.

Its free in both places. There is a paid version, but I just use the free ad-supported one. Gonna get ads one way or the other (YouTube ads and/or in-video sponsor ads).

Just wish they would let the creators choose where the commercials go so its not so jarring.

The Aug. 23 knife attack in the western city of Solingen in which a suspected extremist from Syria is accused of killing three people helped push the issue back to the top of Germany's political agenda, and prompted Scholz's government to announce new restrictions on knives and new measures to ease deportations.

Perhaps you put the restrictions on the wrong thing? Perhaps restrictions on the immigrants causing issues?

Underworld:

That's not how democracy works. Any party can form or be a part of a coalition that has a majority. Oc course, you aren't going to form a coalition with a party whose values are opposed to yours.

Thank you for your reply. I did say "should" when referring to the president stepping in if they couldn't work together to do a part of their job as politicians (pick a government). Further, cdu and sdp have worked together countless times, despite different values. Anyway, just my opinion.

I hope the family of the woman who was killed, as well as her friends who no doubt received an unspeakable shock, sue the killer's famliy

I'm still a believer in individual responsibility. I believe (and think some jurisdictions agree with me) that the parents aren't responsible for the crimes of their offspring. Some western Countries had this concept but it seems to be falling away. There was even a conviction against a mother who's kid killed others recently in the us, I believe.

But even if the AfD does come out on top in the elections, it is unlikely to come to power because other parties have ruled out working with the far right to form a government.

Refusing to work with others should be grounds for revoking political party license. Politics is all about compromise and negotiation. If a party Refuses to negotiate, they're not a political party, but instead a religion.

The president should be authorized to force parties to act like grown-ups and negotiate with everyone. And if not, then to put parties in govt by percentage of vote (eg SDP 20%, Cdu 18%, Afd 10%, greens 5% = 53% for presidential mandated govt).

Mocheake: You also don't need to keep referring to his country of birth and ethnicity.

It helps drive data analytics for lawmakers and other groups. Suppression is not the answer...in some european countries they refuse to say the ethnicity and nationality of the criminal, but many can deduce from either name (if posted), from the neighborhood, or from the crime. People aren't powerless except when they cannot band together to stop the silliness of their govt censorship on such.

That window allowed the man to steal, he said, a total of around 3,000 pears between the early morning hours of August 1 and the early morning of August 2...

Farmers, give this man a job. Thats pretty good picking for 2 days.

Oasis issued a warning, saying tickets could only be resold at face value through authorized sites.

“Tickets appearing on other secondary ticketing sites are either counterfeit or will be cancelled by the promoters,” it said in a statement.

That's not how capitalism works. Supply and demand. If there's more demand, people should be able to charge more. If the original seller can, so to should the original buyer turned seller. Imagine if the law prevented stockbrokers from reselling stock they just bought. Global economic collapse would ensue.

Violent drunks need a warning "do not give me alcohol" on their forehead or a number ... 2 or 4 or 6 which is the limit for the number of drinks before they become agitated

Not a fan of a tattoo, but requiring an alcohol ID that can be taken away for excessive drunkenness or acting violent when drunk would help.

Posted in: Kishida says Trump rally shooting 'challenges democracy' See in context

To those nitpicking about America being a constitutional federal republic. Sure. But its also a democracy. Canada is a constitutional federal monarchy but nobody would really say that.

Republic has an elected head of state (president), monarchy has a hereditary head of state (king/queen/emperor/empress/sultan). Some republics and most monarchies separate the symbolic head of state from the political leader head of govt (prime minister/chancellor), while others do not (US, Syria, Nigeria).

A democracy can be either. Do you vote? Then it's a democracy of some sort, even if a failed democracy. And don't say, "well I only vote for representatives, so it's not a democracy." Come off it. Republic is not contigent on representatives, just on the status of the head of state (as stated above). All modern democracies are representative, but some may have some direct democratic components (recall, referenda).

Never understood why some parliamentary countries have presidential subnational entities (eg directly elected governors in Japanese Prefectures, directly elected mayors in some Canadian cities).

Why not parliamentary all the way down (eg leader of the majority or coalition becomes premier of Tokyo, with the governor being the prefectural figurehead and mascot; leader of majority or coalition becomes city leader of vancouver, with the mayor being the city mascot)?
