Only three governments have successfully touched down on the moon: Russia, the United States and China.

It's not "Russia", it's Soviet Union.

Russian Federation's Mr. Rogosin killed RosKosmos - his government space agency.

Here, in Ukraine, it means that after this day, the Ukrainians have longer natural light time to read paper books during the blackouts caused by the Russian missiles shelling of the country energy infrustracture.

Open all the embassies, Russia has already annexed the liberated territories, end the war and the west stops wasting time on this lost cause, Russia has already won, get over it...

This is what they said in Moscow in 1991-94 at an official meeting with foreign countries representatives — Don't waste your time and money opening embassies in the post-Soviet countries capitals. Soon, Moscow will be the only political centre for this pseudo-countries again.

Thirty years ago!!! You have been dreaming for this revenge since then but Ukrainian people and Ukrainian Army just stopped you. See you in Moscow. ;)

Though Stefan Schmitt probably is not a biased author, but, let's say, poorly informed one, because:

While talking about so called Donetsk People’s Republic he has never mentioned so called Luhansk People’s Republic, another artificial entity created by the Russians in Ukraine same period of time.

And the author somehow forgot the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, internationally recognized as occupied part of Ukraine, which will become the battle field soon.

So, either Stefan Schmitt is a biased or poorly informed author, this is not his best article on the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Posted in: Proving war crimes isn't simple – a forensics expert explains what's involved See in context

Stefan Schmitt is a biased author, because:

war crimes committed by both Ukraine and Russia*

It was Russian Federation who invaded Ukraine (Feb 26-27 2014 - first time in this century), therefore it should be "war crimes committed by both Russia and Ukraine"

in the case of the Ukraine war,*

It's not a "Ukraine war", it's a "Russia-Ukraine war"

about tens of thousands of victims on all sides. *

What "all sides" is Stefan Schmitt talking about? There are TWO SIDES directly involved in this war: Russian Federation (Russian army) and Ukraine (Ukrainian army and Ukrainian civilians).

Donetsk People’s Republic*

There is no Donetsk People’s Republic. Especially for an independent and unbiased author. It may be "so called Donetsk People’s Republic" or "self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic", territory occupied by the Russians and the Russians are responsible for everything there.

So much of hate here.

You are right and the very number of haters commenting this article is a proof itself that Ukraine is winning the war against russia.

As for the Eurovision final, the Ukrainians have won it three times since 2004, so be ready for another Ukrainian Eurovision victory soon and the Eurovision final event in rebuilt Ukrainian Mariupol.

Various laws were introduced following the 2014 coup, and were criticized by various countries.

a) That was not a coup – after the then legitimate president Yanukovych was kidnapped by the Russians from Crimea in Feb 2014, Poroshenko was democratically elected in May 2014 and was democratically succeeded by President Zelenskyi in 2019. Coup – is smth done by a (relatively) small group while 2014 Maidan movement involved majority of the Ukrainians.

b) There were two language laws that made some (4-6) countries unhappy after being adopted. They are available in Endlish translation on the Rada (Parliament) website.

1 – Law on Ukrainian as an official language of Ukraine.

(Russia was unhappy because it made it impossible to dream about Russian as second official language of Ukraine.)

2 – On languages in education.

(RF was unhappy because it made the Ukrainian the main language in the system of education and stopped the language competition. Since the law let ethnic minorities to have their languages as iinstruction language in junior school, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland are happy with it and cooperate on the corresponding Ministries level. Another unhappy country is (a big Russian friend) Hungary.)

c) There were much more various laws passed in Ukraine that have made Russia very unhappy, so unhappy they invaded Ukraine using them as a formal reason.

That's result of Putin's anger and fear to lose its former colony - Ukraine. Ukraine's been declaring its wish to join EU since 1990-ies and Russia attacked Ukraine to prevent further movement towards the West.

Russia will never take Ukraine back, on the contrary, with every shot from Kremlin supported separatists side in the east of Ukraine, the nation makes a step away from Russia and Russian - patriarchal, corrupted - way of life.

Cannot imagine Jews marching in Munich, for example, in 1930-ies chanting "Russia! Russia!". Though some of those people sympathized Russia and escaped from nazi Germany to Russia but died in Siberia soon as "German spies". It is a pity but Russia is still xenophobic and antisemitic country.

So the Russian population want to run away from this " democracy"

That's OK, 3 thousand marched today in Odesa chanting "Russia! Russia!". 3 thousand of 1 mil city!.. It's only for them to choose whether they live in new Ukraine or leave for Russia.

Again, it's not a problem, there is no need to run, they can easily buy a train/air ticket to their beloved Russia.

Those who are interested in the Russians in Ukraine can easily read this Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian Census(2001)

As for the "crowds of people screaming " Russia Russia !!"" - Ukraine is a democratic country and people can go in the streets free. That's not a problem now, there are some pro-russian people in any big country.

Relax! ;)

I always learnt that Neo-Nazis and fascists were bad. It was them we saw demonstrating on the Maidan

The money donated by Japan should have gone to the people in temporary housing in Fukushima and never to Ukraine.

Come on, you are now retelling the Kremlin TV mantras about Ukraine and since Kremlin TV is not popular In Japan this means you have nothing to do with this country. ;) You are neither a Ukrainian nor a Japanese. Why are you so excited about Japanese money then?

Support a fascist government that is racist, that seized power in an illegal coup. That used snipers who shot unarmed police and protesters. Good move.

One. It is "Ukraine". There is no *THE Ukraine."

Two. May 25 - the date of general presidential election (Ukrainians are not Putin's marionettes in Crimea who organized illegal separatist referendium in two weeks term.)

Three. This is what they are doing now in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Four. There are no Nazi collaborators in Ukraine.

Fiive. Ukraine is a unified country and Crimea is still a part of Ukraine.

I am hoping that the March 30 referendum will dispel the hysteria that this Russian occupation has aroused and prompt Russia's military removal from Crimea. If Crimea votes for independence or union with Russia, so be it. The world will have to accept it.

The so-called March 30 referendum was declared after the Russian invasion by a rpo-Russian official appointed after the Russian invasion (by the Russians?). Do you still have any doubts about the results? ;) Besides, you know those Stalin's words that "it is not so important how people vote - who counts the votes is important." ;) With Russian troops in the streets do anybody still have any doubts about the results?

Ukraine was forced to give away its world's third largest nuclear weapons stockpile in 1994 and this year Russia has again violated its security assurances to Ukraine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

Therefore now USA - to its credit - is keeping its word.

Why are repeating this idea living so far from Ukraine, the country you know so badly? Do you like it (the idea)? By why?

I've seen EuroMaidan with my own eyes.

You still have two of them ? Lucky guy

I do. I am.

I've seen EuroMaidan with my own eyes.

Oh! Really ? I cannot believe ! You are quickly becoming a semi-God in my humble eyes!

Relax, I am a real person, nothing divine. :) I was lucky to visit Kyiv just between shootings, the time Berkut was more or less eager to talk. I would attach some pictures, but it is not possible here. You are right, a lot of things have happened in Ukranian cities and towns, but they are not so scary as they show them on (Kremlin) TV. You know, TV-people like to make dramatic picture :) Though it is REVOLUTION.

BTW, you can watch EuroMaidan 24 hours a day here: http://www.radiosvoboda.org - ukrstream.tv or espresso.tv

Insurgency from western Ukraine lead precisely to this: State collapse and disintegration of the country At the moment Ukraniane state - paralized and at the brink of bankrupcy

Looks like you like the idea, but I have to dissapoint you ;) - The Parliament passed a Law yesterday to stop the shooting and there is no civil war in Ukraine. It is civil protest against (legal) President who (illegally) usurped the power.

Nov. 30, 2013 night - about 300 of protesters were severely beaten by the riot police at Independence Square in Kyiv, Ukraine widely known as EuroMaidan now. (Nobody still understand why? They were ready to go home in the morning themselves.) Dec. 1, 2013 - hundreds of thousands came to EuroMaidan demanding one thing - resignation and punishment of those who were guilty of the beating. That was the beginning. Nobody has been punished but the protesters. About 100 peaceful protesters were shot to death by the government snipers on Feb 19, 2014 instead... About 10 policemen died as well. Yes, they used "gasoline bombs" or Molotov cocktail but not to attack the police but to protect EuroMaidan from being dispersed by the police. The problem now is that the protesters don't believe neither parliamentary opposition leaders nor the government.
