Racism is a shame. Shame on people who do it.
We just need to respectful to all human beings. So i feel sorry for her too, and her not being from Wuhan, and never been to Wuhan just shows how bizarrely ignorant these comments are too.

Coming from a culture were family and it's values are put first, and are highly valued. This idea of Sotsukon induces a feeling of emptiness and sadness. Seems marriage is a happiness Grinch in Japan.?

I think you need to watch the interview first, and then comment here. What caused the rants from the celebrity community was not the fact that she brought up this issue. Her questioning line kept pushing, and pushing as if she wasn't getting the answer she needed. Watch it if you haven't yet, and see if you wouldn't feel how petty she was being. i guess that's what annoyed the Doggy Dog and Co.

Replacing chocolate with tofu is even more disgusting.

There are mixed situations here.
Voluntary casesPensioners who have blown their money through gambling and abuse of alcohol, or are not interested in paying taxes to the government. they sale their houses or any other property they have, and go live on the street.
For voluntary cases i was reading an article which explored the different reasons for homelessness in Japan, and it showed some people in the streets, choose to be there to experience poverty ( deliberate decision). Some want to know what poverty feels like, so that's why unsurprisingly you have homeless people, holding high brand smartphones, eating Burger King, and donning not so shabby clothes.( tell that to the homeless in Kibera Kenya).
Fact: Homelessness is not yet a problem in Japan as it is in the US or other parts of the world.
During the Rugby world cup 2019, i don't think they removed the homeless from their usual hotpots, because i continually saw them on the streets throughout the duration of the tournament. It is also the same time a homeless person in Taito Ward of Tokyo was denied shelter at an evacuation center after heavy rains brought by a typhoon.

Of course this a Tourist Burger. Their plan is to tap on tourists who are easily obsessed on this is so Japanese, that is so Japanese, this is Japanese culture (Olympics). Oh! Obama likes these Hamburgers. 4300Yen for a set lol. Then apply and be on a waiting list to eat a Hamburger with sea weed. lol.
But i am also curious about naming of the Hamburger which is derived from a suicide incident of the Daimyo Oba Nobunaga. Are they trying to celebrate suicide by recreating it in a Hamburger? With Suicides at rife in Japan each day, now is it a non sensitive issue as long it is bringing profits? What am i missing here?

It wasn’t until the late hours of June 30 that they managed to catch Satoki and 26-year-old Yuki while they were attempting to steal 88 items – including fishing gear, video games, and cash, and valued at about 62,400 yen – from a coffee shop in Honjo City.
Fishing gear & video games can now be bought from a Coffee Shop??
Honjo city coffee shops are the real deal lol!!!!

This male/female/Transgender and using of ablution facilities or public spaces is really a hypocrite of a scenario in Japan. Just as one person pointed out already, the cleaning ladies standing directly behind me in the public toilets waiting to clean or the ladies working at onsens who frequently enter the man's bathing space to change soap/ shampoo/ checking water temperature. Some ladies in the onsens do have lengthy conversations with customers who are stark naked in front of them, and life still continues, and no one really cares about it. Does it make it right/ wrong/ politically acceptable?

What about the long standing time during graduation ceremonies in public schools( My experience is with JHS public schools) Each year i witness students falling down, feeling sick, throwing up due to standing for a long time. I feel the whole graduation rituals need some serious revision, because there is some level of torture in that too.

@Yubaru: Oh I BET they will make MORE money during the Olympics, particularly with all the tourists who want to take their rides!
Definitely i agree with you on this one. They are going to be really overwhelmed with the number of tourists, and instead of being pessimistic they should be preparing for more customers, and also up their game on marketing their tours, and making more entertaining tours. During the Rugby world Cup i saw Bars & Restaurants being overwhelmed by the high number of customers, and they did not know what to do.( lack of preparation). Even less popular bars were packed to the bream. The British pub HUB started serving alcohol in paper cups because glasses ran out quickly which was really annoying, because i want to drink my 800yen ALE in a nice cold glass. They just need to get their heads out of their a***, and get ready to make some Big cash.

The Tokyo District Court on Tuesday approved prosecutors’ request to keep actress Erika Sawajiri detained for another 10 days. Sawajiri, 33, who was arrested on Nov 16 for allegedly possessing 0.09 of a gram of powder containing MDMA, will remain in detention until Dec 6.Police said Sawajiri has also admitted to using illegal drugs, such as marijuana, LSD and cocaine, for more than 10 years.Prosecutors said police are trying to identify the means through which she has been obtaining the drugs.
Seems to me the System was built to just do that, and doesn't discriminate at all.

It would have been interesting to get an opinion from these Celebrities after eating at Jiro Ono and a regular kaiten Zushi. It would be interesting to hear them make these comparisons. Most of us here haven't ate at Jiro Ono's, but definitely at a KaitenZ. That salmon Avocado/ spicy onion one from the kaiten Zushi places like Uobei etc are freakn delicious. So i might agree with people who talked about opinion and hype. A bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequilla costs 1800yen in a Supermarket, but the same bottle is 15000yen in a bar, just as a corona beer bottle is 200yen in store and 700yen at a bar. live within your means, do not be mislead. Eat the sushi which makes you happy :)! 100yen/40000!

What about you show the Pope, people who are indefinitely held in detention centers across Japan.? listen to their views. The real face of a draconian judicial system. Doesn't that count as one worst human rights violation too? Here is a Bible verse for you 'Learn to do right. See that justice is done — help those who are oppressed, give orphans their rights, and defend widows. (Isaiah 1:17.

99% of Japanese people are against Organized religions. By organized i mean like going to church every sunday, converting and being a full member, paying tithes or offerings, reading a bible, believe in one God etc.
And yet the 12,000,000 or so members of Sokka Gakkai pay tithes, chant sutras and vote Komeito. Are you quite sure 99% of Japanese people don't like organized religion?
Are you quite sure 99% of Japanese people don't like organized religion?" There's a very fine line between a cult and a religion. Nichiren Buddhism is a religion, and Soka Gakkai is Ikeda Daisaku's personality cult. I've witnessed it destroy lives and split families firsthand.
@Alfie Noakes & @expat by 99% i was just trying to say society at large are not that interested in these forms of organized religions, not as a correct/objective figure. So at @expat you are actually correct by mentioning the fine line between a religion and a cult, that is the main reason why most Japanese will not convert to any form of organized religion. They will rather stay away than convert. The Aum Shinrikyo gas attacks do factor in big time in this religio-phobia attitude. Religion/cult the fact of being affiliated to any disinterests them. Add to what you have said about Sokka Gakkai or Nichiren. Even those that claim to Buddhists or Shinto, it doesn't go any deeper.
@Alfie I don't think 12 million members represents Japan only. i think its their global membership. in Japan around 5 million. Also factor in the people who are really practicing it! Actually now i did a quick survey to 15 Japanese people at my work place , non is Sokka Gakkai they all gave me that face of disgust towards it , followed with a えええええええ！！。I can't say out of 125 million Japanese, and i talked to 15 then make a conclusion, but it is the general consensus. Ask a few people around you, and share with me their thoughts. よろしく！

The Christian religion constitute less than 1% here. His views will not have any impact to anything in Japan. His invitation by the Japaneses government or any organization which extended it to him is more of a grandstand, it works well for the Japaneses government to have this welcoming image. Their mantra that Japan is opening up to the world is proved right by these powerful delegations visiting this 'ONLY' island nation. It's commercial for Japan than Socio/religio reasons. 99% of Japanese people are against Organized religions. By organized i mean like going to church every sunday, converting and being a full member, paying tithes or offerings, reading a bible, believe in one God etc. Introduce Christianity to any Japanese and tell them about this, they will answer you: This is a dangerous religion. To Japan the Pope is just like any influential religious or political figure they could invite here, show you around Hiroshima, Kyoto & Nara, and then endorse us as beautiful country. That's it.

"The rowdiness has even begun to affect the neighborhood’s international image, as one visiting foreigner who was arrested for vandalism last year told the police: “I’d heard that Halloween in Japan is crazy, and that every year people do things like this."
This is a pure example of lazy, naive, blunt reporting. Disgusting too trying to blame "foreigners" for it too.
Am shocked !!

I respect healthy, and nutritious meals, but if these all at the expense of the taste of my food then am always very unimpressed. I will paint to you a picture of what soup bowl contains in these schools: Carrots, Onion, radish, spinach, tofu chunks, sea weeds, and the fermented broth. All these are mixed together. Nutritionally maybe i can't argue the value. Taste wise, the worst you wanna have for your lunch. Also to make things worse most schools to do not have Kitchen facilities of their own, so the food is cooked at some Lunch Center, and transported to Schools, so by the time it's served it's already Cold. So imagine drinking fermented broth soup, and it's already cold, stcky cold dry rice etc.

@mrmehoso11 might have thought he had a nice manner story to massage his ego with, but after reading other peoples opinions recoils back into a corner like a fetus in the womb. looking for moral redemption decides to apologize to make himself look nice and feel good again. It's a confusing personality complex. As people, we are quick to judge others, and forget that we are all human. I have seen and experienced this situation many times. I respect the priority Seat rules as a responsible citizen. I once offered a seat to a disabled guy, but he looked at me with a really stern face( That face which was saying disability doesn't mean inability). I crawled back to my might seat, and the awkwardness covered my surroundings like a thick morning cloud. Even old people turn my seat away. I guess it's the gaijin complex. Remember Japanese people rarely take seats next to us, and what about offering one. It is the story behind the story.

Just to add on: Tokyo is not made up of the 23 Wards only. There are also also cities which are part of greater Tokyo, and can also provide alternative cheap accommodation too. These cities are even far from central Tokyo. ( West Tokyo, Tachikawa, Kodaira, Hachioji etc)
