What about Miyagio and Iwate Prefectures as that is where the vast majority of deaths (by magnitudes more than Fukushima) were from the Tohuku earthquake

... Bach spouting Fukushima shows his lack of knowledge of the recovery.

Wish they would talk more honestly about what Olympic legacy they are leaving after all this money spent and extra resources diverted to the Olympics instead of to those that needed it.

Money and precious resource wasted. If the local Osaka people can build this then fine, but if it's yet another drain nationally then not fine and selfish.

There are not enough construction workers already because too much was diverted to the Olympics instead of rebuilding after the Tohoku earthquake. How long do they have to wait. Will the Olympics(the way they are being done) even bring any health or active travel lifestyle legacy for the population.

What legacy, what cost.

"Toques were popular from the 13th to the 16th century in Europe, especially France. The mode was revived in the 1930s. Now it is primarily known as the traditional headgear for professional cooks, except in Canada where the term is primarily used for knit caps."

What has she done? she takes ages to make any decision and then doesn't - Tokyo 2020 stuff missed now because time ran out to do it now, Tokyo fish market, etc. Major tasks for her current job.

Maybe she can be a figure head, but someone else will need to make the decisions or do the real work.

"NZ2011Today  04:29 pm JST

Electric cars with nowhere to charge, and electricity coming from fossil fuels.."

The point is pollution at the tailpipe.

Many deaths each year are caused by this. In particular in Europe which have problems with high numbers of diesels and their high NOx emissions.

(Tokyo kind of banned diesels over decade ago - although you can by them again now - but just don't trust the manufacturers claims. What were Mazda thinking getting into diesels recently - lack of exposure and knowledge in Japan's younger public recently because of the previous "ban" i guess)

It's not "Green House" CO2 that's the problem or the issue being solved by Electric, Hydrogen or Hybrid to an extent - Its local pollution.

(pollution and green house not being the same thing)

Its been recommended controversially but for good reason ( well bad reason because it a bad system) for some years now. I’m sure Jt has an article on one from several years back, let alone the more recent one you may be just thinking of.

Maybe we need men only carriages, so men can ride in peace and protect men:

... from incorrect or false accusations from women,

extortion,

dodgy police that can keep your for days/weeks (criticized at UN – Japanese diplomat underfire for shouting),

treated guilty until proven innocent,

loose your job in the process,

THAT’S WHY  lawyers for some time  tell you to RUN if falsely accused.

"The J-gov will do anything to keep European diesels out of Japan.

The new European diesel take the Hybrids for lunch when it comes to mileage.

And don't forget that diesel fuel is 30% cheaper in Japan.

Better mileage AND cheaper fuel. It's a no-brainer."

Yeah it’s a no brainer that diesel emit so much pollution and the effects of effective ban in japan on diesel cars could be seen in the air quality levels improving. Its measurable. Its not just co2 emissions you should be looking at – its all the other nasty stuff that emitting that bad for people health.

Posted in: Nissan CEO says it would be hard to hide effort to falsify emissions data See in context

Ban diesels in Europe like they effectively did in Japan over a decade ago and we will get better air quality in Europe ( you can check online data at places like aqicn.org). Europe will also get the hybrid models that get released in Japan but not in the Europe because they promote these dirty diesels instead locally first.

There is no way that its not going to be in Japan in 2019 regardless of how badly or well the the Japanese team does. This is from the people organizing the sport. Japan doesn't have a shortage of stadiums to use either, maybe more than the country hosting it now. So there is no real problem.

There was a lot of non Japanese people supporting Japan yesterday and even people saying that they were converting to watching more rugby after Japans match yesterday. It has really helped the sport.

Ironic for some eu leaders sounding off about eliminating world corruption to start the G7 off in the wake of FIFA ....and oh I forgot ...we already joined AIIB without much consideration.

China’s corruption and pollution too far from Europe for them to be as aware as others about the negatives. Considering the distance, America is relatively more aware than Europe.

Half the drivers should not be on the road. Looking forward to them being replaced and our shared spaces becoming less anti social and less collisions and deaths every day. Should lower our insurance costs and free up our hospitals. Unfortunately most drivers (not a minority) have set a very low bar to beat.

If only Ana or Jal had a uk based credit card loyalty system like you can get in the US, then they would get my vote. Jal and Ana are in a different league to BA and virgin..you would often be hit with the rude culture shock even at Narita leaving Japanese service standard behind even before you have left Japan.

The reporter is joking? and the quotes selected are a joke?

"Japan’s nationalist Prime Minister"

Is that a joke by the reporter ? I mean compared to China, not even in the same league when it comes to nationalism.

Then as for the spokesman quotes trying find excuses for the lack of interest in their country: “The Japanese yen has depreciated sharply in recent years and the foreign exchange rate of the yen has been very volatile over the long run, therefore the divergence between statistics in yen and those in the dollar was rather big.”

wrong in recent years it is getting stronger as countries recover since the drop in 2007, wrong(heard of the carry trade?) and final point is meaningless.

"Japan should also “continue to make efforts to improve bilateral relations" "“take concrete actions to implement” an agreement which paved the way for a meeting"

wrong again, clearly China has been the one stopping meetings whereas Japan has long been pursing dialogue.

basically joke article
