Weak yen? not really if you look at stats longer than a few years, especially as we are still recovering from the last financial crash of 07/08. In fact it still very slightly strong compared to the norms in the years before the last financial crash. Well helicopter journalist who are only here for few years, that just rabbit report what they’ve here similar experienced journalists report.

So the government must be glad that they are trying to get rid of the kei car and force Japan's automakers to supply bigger international sized cars the locals dont want or need.

Politics

Don't you know we have already hung the blame on the captain. Government and Park very scared to get more involved so will pull any stunt like this to deflect further scrutiny and what easier way for Korean crowd manipulation that a Japanese subject to be angry with and hide behind.

Korean and Chinese politics hey.

The foreign press time and time again is singled out for being a bit of a joke when reporting about Japan so I'm sure they are taking their disappoint real seriously.

"eliminate the war culture from people’s hearts"

Should look at the tv schedule of some other g7 countries - they love war in contrast to Japan which has an aversion to those violent movies and got on being a developed country with other culture instead of relying on war related matters for patriotism and culture.

Posted in: Tokyo’s Haneda Airport becomes fourth airport in the world to be awarded coveted 5-Star rating See in context

Still prefer Narita at the moment due to the poor very early time slots the last time i checked for international flights at Haneda ( esp to London - ironic considering the emphasis of the location of the awarding body in this story).

At Haneda I would have to stay in a hotel near by the night before. They also didn't have accommodation at the international terminal of Haneda, just the other "domestic" one where the connecting transport wouldn't be up and running early enough in the morning/night.

Narita even though a couple hours away from prefectures outside Tokyo or closer if in Tokyo was a better option as could just get morning transport for a 11 am flight to Europe. That's a much better option time wise and cost of sacrificing the night before of my travel plans to get to a hotel somewhere "near" Haneda and the extra expense of that and possibly a taxi as public transport was not fully operational at that time of night/very early morning.

If they sort out the time slots for international flights leaving Tokyo, then Haneda may be a better option than Narita for long range international, especially if you live just outside Tokyo and not in area just near Haneda.

However Haneda was already one of the busiest airports in the world doing it domestic and short haul international flights, so maybe there are no decent time slots left for long haul without some further negotiation. Airlines are usually pretty precious about there time slots and gates, so don't usually give those up so easily.

Haneda long haul - nice idea, but not fully thought through so takes more time out of your schedule and is more expensive overall.

Narita will will doing business for many years for long haul and will continue to be more convenient(cost + time) at the current setup.

Meanwhile forgetting industry or politicians - the Japanese public themselves don't seem to be up in arms about importing tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of gas and oil.

The Japanese public themselves need to really look more at what they expect energy production wise. There are more options they could be pushing for instead of a large group just concentrating on saying no to one particular form of energy production. Meanwhile the economy takes a beating too because of this - any of the public awake or able to sea the big picture or can they only concentrate on the one issue of nuclear and seem incapable of of any widespread discussions of better options than the current very dire route of the last 3 years.

After all we are told the country has many great technical minds for these challenges (and they do) - but the public and media at large - I don't see them even capable of talking about it to any mildly intelligent or bigger picture way or not enough at least considering the grave problems of their economy and co2 production. At least they don't have high gas guzzling cars as standard and energy consumption per person wasn't previously so bad on the world scale - but wheres the discussion?

"that's what Japanese company been doing for decade and still doing. have you people forget japan before the war or after the war until the US give to japan all the tech and the rest is history"

I'm pretty sure Japan didn't look to the USA for train technology, another country is cited in particular(now with a rubbish train system of its own) and before the period you talk about too.

"I once rode the Chunnell to Brussels on a French-built carriage, like the TGV's, and the seats are bigger and more comfortable than on the Shinkansen's. The train and station also had decent pubs. So my vote is for France"

I found it was completely the opposite way round. The Japanese trains were way smoother in ride and they are wider carriages compared to euro models (Look it up).

It seems ironic some of the angles of critism here considering back in some people's home countries how ww1 "commemerations" are being rammed down people's throats and it's just fine if we do the same back home. By contrast japan doesn't rely on sometimes daily doses of war for large blocks of patriot citizens and instead gets on with modern life leaving other countries looking like they haven't developed and have little to be proud of in recent decades(mmm who 'won' the war?). So this kind of event is hardly nothing and in your face by contrast.

I have sympathy with all the relatives but I don’t have sympathy with this sub group of relatives behaviour at all. Not a single bit. I find it revolting. What has the Chinese society done to these people to make them behave so aggressively? or is it the Chinese government behind the scene pulling the strings, helping to push another local political agenda not directly related to the flight? Contrast how they behave to how other country’s people behave, even it’s own neighbour’s peoples with worldwide admirable reaction to worst recent disasters. Compare it to how China government have behaved in other recent disasters involving their national’s in other local countries. We have seen some of that bullying and unreasonable behaviour here again.

China FM and its spokesman Hong Lei has been pretty nasty in my view in the last few weeks. Look at other recent Asia news especially high profile mh370, then criticism of china bullying again comes up by others. I wonder in the world of international corporation whether someone has had a word with the China F Minstry or whether maybe he/they should read their own comments and apply that to their own behavior. Certainly valid in this case, Beijing's anger and way of doing things which is like chalk and cheese to other Asian countries.

If you were commenting on a non Japan site and then that would be a different matter, but even outside Japan people watch Japanese tv and these have been in some of the most famous and watched Japanese dramas.
