Posted in: Olympics chief says cancelation unlikely with 50 days to go See in context

The Tokyo Olympics chief on Thursday said the Games would only be canceled in extreme circumstances.

Worst global pandemic in a century not “extreme enough”?

Specially considering cases in Japan are out of control, only a tiny portion of the population vaccinated (most with only one dose of the vaccine). On top of that you want to bring people from what 150 different countries?

If this is not extreme enough to cancel...

Man arrested for ruining fruit at supermarket

This is what crime is around here... poking fruit at a supermarket!

How good would be if the rest of the world was safe like this.

Unfortunately as soon as you leave Japan you need to hide your wallet otherwise consider it gone.

The only good part is that they might let you keep your fruit if you are carrying some lol.

Of those, 1,432, including athletes for test events and broadcasting personnel, were exempted from Japan's 14-day self-quarantine requirement.

Ask the japanese people to “stay home” and be careful, but thousands of athletes coming from all over the world can come and not go through a strict quarantine.

Priorities...

Mass vaccinations in Tokyo

What kind of idiotic propaganda is this?

10,000/day in Tokyo is SLUGGISH, not mass vaccination.

Mass vaccination in such large city would be 300,000/day.

This government really uses and misleads its good people.

raising the maximum number of inoculations per day to 10,000 in Tokyo

Metropolitan Tokyo Area has around 38 million people, but lets consider the 9 million this article mentions, which is referred to the 23 wards:

9 million / 10,000 = 900

900/365 = 2,46 years.

Considering the usual J-Gov bureaucracy and delays, lets be positive and hope we will take...

At least 4 years to vaccinate the Tokyo population.

Olympic athletes were told by the IOC on Thursday that a waiver they must sign releasing Tokyo organizers from liability for COVID-19 issues was “standard practice” for major sports events.

This is beyond sad at this point.

I used to be a huge fan of the Olympic Games.

Never again, as this revealed the real “Olympic $pirit”.

I hope the japanese people’s voice is heard and this event is cancelled last minute, as it should.

Major Japanese newspaper Asahi calls for Olympic cancelation

I don’t know if it will be cancelled even with all the pressure from these companies.

However it is fantastic to see even an Olympic partner coming out to push for cancellation.

This gives me some hope for the future of this brilliant country that is Japan.

Keep fighting until its cancelled japanese people, show who is in charge here and why this is such a special place in the world.

Why would US even care?

Most it its citizens, and consequently athletes, are vaccinated and will get proper testing on the way back.

Japan should be the one cancelling the games, as its the one with its population at risk.

But Japan is stubborn and never goes back with its word... saving face they say!

U.S. warns its citizens against travel to Japan due to COVID surge

Absolutely!

Remember how Europe and US were a few months ago, with no measures to curb infections, difficult to get tested, no vaccines?

That is Japan now, just unofficially as testing is anything but transparent and accessible. Unlike Europe and US a few months ago where you were encouraged to get tested and isolate, the exact opposite happens here.

Real numbers in Japan? Same as the origin of the virus... we will never know!

Would be super awkward as an athlete to participate in an event that has 80% of the country’s population against it.

Tokyo numbers are being shockingly manipulated. Well, all over the country however Tokyo is just another level.

Osaka, Hyogo, Okinawa, Hokkaido with uncontrollable waves, and Tokyo remaining steady.

Seriously, how ignorant can one be to believe that?

Posted in: Tokyo reports 766 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 5,814 See in context

nobody believes these numbers anymore. they're being manufactured for the O

Absolutely.

Considering what is happening all over the country, it is impossible for a city like Tokyo, with its perfect conditions for mass spreading, to remain with a steady number of cases.

Testing keeps decreasing, not a surprise.

What is a surprise for me is how no one questions it internationally, and will still send their athletes etc, with the risk of taking back new variants to its people.

But money always first, ne?

Over 80% in Japan oppose Olympics this year: poll

The IOC (International Olympic Committee) has replied to this poll with a clear, and repeated:

We do not care about japanese people’s opinion, we do have more power than the government (LDP) that ALSO couldn’t care less about its people.

LDP would only have listened to its people and cancel the Olympics if they were threatened by another large party that could take them out of power.

Unfortunately they know they will remain in power, and for this reason... no need to even pretend they care about the japanese people.

A miraculous and sudden drop.

Surely it has nothing to do with the lowest testing numbers since Oct 2020.

https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/

Just as expected. Nothing new here.

Numbers must fit the “Olympic dream”.

Does anyone still believe the numbers?

If so, go outside and see how nothing changed. Then ask yourself how could Tokyo do a “better job” then Osaka, and still have a significant drop in the numbers right on time to force the end of SOE and for Bach’s visit.

Transparency is not a thing around here, at all.

The japanese people are being fully disrespected by its own government (who’s nothing but IOC’s puppet).

Posted in: 60% feel it is hard to raise children in Japan: gov't survey See in context

Japan has two choices. Either:

Incentives for couples to have children. Not only monetary/tax wise, but also drastically change the toxic working culture.

This, if Japan wants to stop a sharp population decrease over the next few decades;

or

Automate everything and change the way the country works.

This, if Japan wants to let the current shrinkage of its population and embrace it.

While Japan produces top notch technologies, anyone who had worked at a japanese company knows it is like going back in time to a 1980’s office with fax machines and papers all over the place.

Automation is still a mirage.

Tough decisions that have to be made now to stick to a long term strategy.

Oh wait, the current government has probably over 80% or more of its people over 60 years old, will they really plan long term?

Japan needs younger generations to take over as soon as possible, as there are big decisions on the table that have to be made to ensure a promising future for the country.
