The rest of the world is not shaking in their boots about Japanese lil toy solders

Posted in: Coin laundries in Japan more popular than ever, but what makes them so good? See in context

Man I bought one of those "combo" washing machines and it barely works. It wasn't cheap either!

Eitherway, the coin laundry place down the street is heaven-sent during the rainy season and winter!

Posted in: 'Solitary deaths' mean more business for specialty cleanup crews See in context

This is BIG business...

There's an odd shop near my house that has an old Lamborghini Countach parked inside that the owner's been fixing up. The shop is filled with weird things like a large wooden shark, RC helicopter, and just other, random expensive looking things. The shop's logo has two lightning bolts making it look like a antique hobby shop, but wife told me it's actually one of these shops that clean up apartments and houses. I've always wanted to stop in and ask about the business. I wonder if the Lamborghini is the result of his successful business or one of the things that he collected from his clean up.

Can you imagine if Germany applied for something enshrining Nazis (other than holocaust sites)? Why is this any different? The only thing that should be remembered is these poor kids died for absolutely no reason. Wasted life.

I swear Japanese hate making money. Build special platforms for these guys and charge them a little ticket fee with seasonal rates, special event rates, etc... Ban taking pictures on crowded platforms have special train runs on separate platforms or build special sections for taking pictures that are elevated or separate from actual riders. Train companies make more money, riders are happy, nerds getter better shots. Everyone is happy.

This AGAIN?

I live next to a Junior Highschool actually closer to the field than the actual place and it is loud. But who could not love the sound of youth? There's a concert band, loud exercise routines, and announcements and it's a great noise to have in the background.

Daycares are needed now more than ever they are needed a lot more than salty old complainers. Children being loud and young. Let them enjoy it while they can, before their beaten down into slave office workers.

Matsuko is spot on here.

A sidenote about Matsuko's longevity. She doesn't have a gag that she constantly regurgitates. That's the downfall of a lot of "talentos" here. See one Edo Harumi. Remember her? "Good." Didn't think so. She'll be around as long as Japan loves tsukkomi because there are PLENTY of boke around.

Posted in: 6th-grader calls out smartphone-loving parents over anti-video game lectures See in context

More power to this girl. When I was kid, there was nothing I hated more than my parents berating me about playing games, which teach you thinking skills and hand-eye coordination (which comes in handy as I'm a drummer / musician) while they were glued to the tube watching sitcoms. I can understand they want to unwind because they had to work all day, but playing a game is 100x better in my opinion than drooling in front of a TV.

If anything looking at a tiny smartphone screen versus a TV screen is way worse for your eyes.

Anyone working in film, music, and photography know that this is all hot air. The desktop is needed. I work in music and editing not only needs horsepower but it also needs screen real estate. There's nothing worse than micro-editing on a tablet screen.

If anyone does film editing or anything visual, you need the power + screen size. Those are just facts.

Posted in: Is being in an international marriage any more or less difficult than a "regular" marriage? What are some issues that you think might torpedo an international marriage (or relationship)? See in context

I have no idea as I also have never been in a "regular" marriage. I'm happily married, but there are some things that test my patience every once in a while. I do get the "you're not Japanese, so you don't understand" occasionally. Other than that, our problems don't really have anything to do with our international differences.

Posted in: Survey reveals 55% of women in Japan wouldn’t marry a divorced man See in context

I've seen both sides of it. Some people who have been divorced with kids and have a wonderful life with a new family. Some who can't seem to get it together. Marriage isn't for everybody. I'm happily married, but if I ever got divorced I wouldn't want to get married again anyway, so problem solved.

What I would be much more scared of would be a single woman in her 40s who has never married or had kids...

Seriously! LOL!

The plant is expected to generate about 5,000,000kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 1,400 households, per year.

So it produces the amount of power 1,400 houses consume in a year in an hour?

Posted in: Is Japanese TV really as bad as its reputation? See in context

There's a lot of garbage on J-TV but the same can be said about American TV.

There ARE a lot of things that I like watching.

I like the house reform shows. All of the New Years specials. (SOON!) Music Station. I usually only watch a panel show if it has one of my favorite comedians or talento. Some dramas are not bad, even if the production quality is not great.

Whatever, don't like it. don't watch it.

Song: it's aight, it's Pharrell. Video: It's cute and aight. I like some of the art. Especially the pixel art. I'd give it a 6/10. Just because it has almost nothing to do with the lyrics.

If you want to use anime in your video that's cool but I highly doubt Pharrell has experienced any of these Japanese summer culture things. Going to a festival or eating shaved ice. Kind of lame.

Posted in: The fuel for Japan’s pedophiles See in context

I'm sorry but that is a pretty weak argument. While I do think child pageants are pretty gross. It pales in comparison to some of these idol books. The worst offense would be the girl's in bathing suits, walking down the catwalk like a model. That's the worst it gets

In the idol books the girls are sitting rear-end up in the air in a sexual pose. Some of them have girls soapy and taking baths. Let me repeat that. Naked 8~10 year old girls only covered in soap taking a bath. Honestly you think that is just cute and not creepy? Why would a grown man need to watch a child that is not his take a bath?

Kazuaki / Yoshiro: You are saying that you would be perfectly comfortable buying one of these books and enjoying it? What do you think a woman's reaction would be if she found a stack of these in your apartment / house?

Again, the pageants are gross but nothing compared to books that show girls spreading their legs to show their panties.

If any man in any western country was caught buying a child pageant photo book his wife would divorce him, he get fired from his job, and get shunned by his peers, community, you name it.
