Can you imagine if there was a Putina in charge of Russia? At a minimum there would be less overt posturing by that regime.

I don't know about that. Kimmy's sister looks like she is up to no good in that WPK regime.

Currently living with my wife's grandmother who is 88 temporarily because we were worried if an earthquake happens, the house she was in wouldn't hold. Looking for a new place for her nearby in the meantime, but this experience has made me respect these caregiver jobs much more. It is quite stressful and they deserve to have more pay to be able to unwind and take care of themselves as well. If you can't look after yourself, you can't look after others.

In South Korea, the capital Seoul had the lowest fertility rate of 0.55 last year.

I can see many woman who work in Seoul having tons of debt because of the outrageous beauty standards set forth by their entertainment industries. Not to mention the have and have nots are in a farther apart than here in Japan. The average salary in S. Korea is higher than in Japan, yet there are only a handful of firms that can employ and give out high wages in S. Korea compared to Japan. The seniors are also practically living in poverty. Both Japan and S. Korea have many problems to solve, but I am glad I'm in Japan for now...

"Moreover, Governor (Kazuo) Ueda mentioned last week that he believes that the Japanese economy is in a virtuous cycle where inflation will rise and wage growth and employment will strengthen," ING added.

He's right in a sense that inflation will inevitably rise with other economies, employment will strengthen because of a shrinking population and increased demand for labor, but wage growth is a bold prediction. Seems like many are fine with their lives in the interviews below despite what would be considered close to poverty wages in the US, maybe we shouldn't tip things to one side and continue to keep things balanced?

In a survey conducted by the ministry in fiscal 2022 of 1,000 full-time male workers, roughly 620 men said they had never taken paternity leave, of whom 39.9 percent cited concern about decreased income

Precisely why I too may or may not take it because every penny counts, especially when woman are expected to go back to work after 1 year and nursery schools don't pay for themselves.

● Hobbies that men find unattractive for a woman to have

Drinking/alcohol (32.8 percent)

> 4. Video games (13.9 percent)

> 5. Scuba diving/marine sports (13.1 percent)

Someone who can handle their alcohol and will enjoy a wine with you, keeps themselves looking attractive and young, wears nice clothes on dates, can play video games with you when it's raining outside, and will go to the beach with you when it is sunny outside. What is not to like? What the heck are these men expecting from their ideal partner?

The concept of taking in someone straight out of a uni and dying them into your company's brand color has long sailed. Most people change jobs before turning 30 now, so this quest to take in young talent shouldn't require any more resources otherwise it would just be a higher costing prospect that is capable of leaving at will. Why not employ more retired shufus who have the talent, are still malleable and capable of learning to work full-time for the company instead of haken positions? The likelihood that they will be grateful for the company and stay longer is higher than a uni grad student, and the cost to train them shouldn't be any different.

Posted in: No lunch in Ginza: Japan's scaled-back spending helps push economy to recession See in context

The area I work charges a salad, something that is easy to make and doesn't require cooking, for something around 1,300 yen for the cheapest offer. These prices are absolutely ridiculous and is the reason I choose to work remotely as much as possible because I can make the same salad for less than 300 yen at home. My pay isn't increasing so I gotta find a way to cut back as much as possible.

Just heard an "expert" on this subject say on the news that in terms of yen base, we are actually producing more than prior years, but considering this GDP measurement is in USD, we appear to have dropped due to the fact that the yen has been depreciated against the dollar. So nothing to worry about.

In other words, devaluing the yen has given exporting companies record profits, imports have driven prices up for average consumer in Japan, Japanese are now worried about future so they allocate their small savings towards NISA propping up the economy again, all the money printing that happened from 2020 onwards used to buy up company stocks and artificially growing the market, all the loans given out after the pandemic not being paid back due to lack of purchasing power, and the growing aging work force not producing enough despite putting in many hours, yeah, nothing to worry about at all...

Meanwhile LDP going on a spending spree books with out tax money. PLEASE can we get a more competent government? Rant over lol

Funny how many of us agree on deodorant, I thought I was weird always buying deodorant but I guess not. Many of you touched on things I usually get but I might add medicines, supplements, and sunglasses. Even though men are being emasculated in this modern world, it is interesting to see Japanese men still hold their own in wanting to be the provider despite all these movements to get them to be a iku-men or nurturer for their family. I'm hearing from friends and wife's friends who are currently pregnant or already had their babies all say the same thing, they really don't give a rats about their jobs and want to spend their time with their babies while their husbands agree they want them to do the same. It's ridiculous we don't have the option anymore to have a house wife or husband because of how ridiculous living costs are for families.

But then, aren't we all bigots then? I have nothing personally against you and I respect a lot of your opinions at times, but you seem to go out of your way to also push your own opinions and beliefs at times towards other commenters on this platform.

The beauty of this platform unlike others is that I can see the dislikes and likes which helps me understand there are those who disagree with me. I encourage disagreement, debating is a great thing! It helps me get a better understanding of why I have my own opinions in the first place. Trying to keep myself open minded, but at the same time I want to maintain common sense and keep values that where never broken in the first place.

For those downvoting my previous comment, look up Jordan Peterson. Call this man a "Bigot" "Transphobe" "Misogynist" all you want, but his arguments are far more clear and concise than anything I've heard from your point of views. And just to be clear, I am not saying that all of you are wrong, I just want all this hatred and political wars to stop. There is no winner in this, just let nature take it's course naturally.

Thanks Bertie! I always wondered why the Greek yogurts here tasted like sour cream.

@Jalapeno

It’s called gender dysphoria. It’s a real thing and these people are not faking. Not the same thing as drag queens dressing as women for kinks.

Transgender individuals are such a small portion of society and they wouldn’t receive so much attention if the hate directed towards them wasn’t so disproportionate.

They’re not hurting anyone so let them be.

Agreed. It is sad that we have come to a point in time where other people are violently trying to change the entire narrative. Those with gender dysphoria (a very small population of less than 1%) have definitely gone through enough suffering as it is, yet now we have those who have absolutely nothing to do with the group coming in and telling people what is right or wrong. And whenever you try to debate with them, they never have a clear and concise argument. They just call you names that they've taken from the "word of the day" calendar and act like they are intellectual and won the argument.

They probably saw what they were able to earn when they graduate and thought, ain't no way I'll be able to pay off my student loans let alone get married before turning 30. Like David Brent said, it's either enjoy the beauty of child rearing but gaman on that Haagen Dazs, or enjoy eating that Haagen Dazs because you worked hard and earned it.

I'd rather see the polls for those aged 25-35 instead.

Posted in: There are some geographies where our market share is remarkably low, like Japan. We should at least have a market share proportionate to, say, other non-Japanese carmakers like Mercedes or BMW, which we do not currently have. See in context

The reason why Mercedes and other cars alike are popular are because they are an established brand and can be used to show off just by flashing the logo. This country is still very much materialistic and those who have a little bit of extra money go out and buy brand stuff to show that they are much wealthier than they actually are. Hardly anyone knows what a Tesla is, let alone know anything about cars at all, but they know what a Benz is.

Posted in: Americans have saddled themselves with credit card debt See in context

@GBR48

I love every bit you've mentioned. It is odd that in this world where you have so many career opportunities and choices available to you, you only get a few years to decide what you want to do, and that is before you are classified as an actual adult (I don't think 18 year old's are considered adults yet). Not to mention, you aren't exactly sure of what is actually available out there because schools don't teach you this, but you spend most of your time in school. Some careers require longer schooling so kids end up spending so much time and money until they are now past 25 years of age to begin work, not knowing what they are getting themselves into and what they have invested their youth into.

I definitely don't recommended anyone to go down the rabbit hole of taking out loans and using credit cards unless you are at least 90% committed to what you will use it for and 100% committed you will be able to pay it off. And the advice GBR48 is giving is spot on!
