It needs to be understood that, in his novels, Yasutaka Tsutsui uses an esoteric idiom that is not accessible as street culture in the same way as, say, an animated movie. This explains why Tsutsui's works have not easily met with approval with publishers outside Japan, but Andrew Driver is to be commended for single-handedly bringing the author to western attention with the provocative and more readily accessible "Salmonella Men on Planet Porno". Alma agreed to publish the book after all the major publishers had turned it down.
