You don't mind if somebody deliberately spits on you? Only a samurai would? Piffle and nonsense. Women needed stricter laws here especially to protect them on trains. Do you not know why? Spit is maybe the least offensive thing they are likely to find on their cardigan. Better than a hand or semen I suppose. People need to take responsibility for their behaviour in public. Male and female. Men especially though need to stop being abusive though women in Tokyo can be just as rude. What is it with the new fashion/ignorant habit of always wearing your backpack?

I would be interested to know where Coach Sasaki sat.

Posted in: Has hosting the Olympics become ruinous? See in context

Lots of already rich people get richer off the Olympics. Who cares about the Olympic Stadium after the games have finished? Athletics will go back to being hardly important again in London and some poor football team will be stuck playing in an athletics stadium. Tottenham, Leyton Orient or West Ham it seems. Will the Tube be much better afterwards? Hope the endless extra delays and closures leading up to it turn out to be worth it. I shan't be watching anyway. Nobody I know managed to get tickets to any events in their local area or in London and the price rise in everything and especially flights home leave a sour taste in the mouth.

I have to say I agree that manners have gotten a lot worse since the tsunami and earthquake of last year. I also agree that which manners we should truly consider bad should be thought about. Trying to get on the train as I am trying to get off and also not putting your bag on the shelf and instead trying to plant it in my groin or up my arse are favourites of mine. I must say though that 20 something professionals seem to be the worst offenders when it comes to bag to bag contact. Old ladies of course are the worst for trying to get on before we get off. Seating offences? I really couldn't point to the biggest offenders though I have rarely seen a middle aged businessman give up his seat.

Posted in: 8-year-old girl killed by bus; driver arrested See in context

Zebra crossings mean nothing anywhere? Nonsense. UK drivers always stop. I have no fear for my life on zebra crossings in England. In Japan? I wait and wait and wait. People stop if they feel like it. It is my pet hate in this country. Not surprised this bus driver killed this poor girl, only surprised it was not a taxi driver. They are the worst. I see drivers run red lights every day in Japan. I hardly ever saw it in the UK. There is a massive problem here and a lot of people drive big cars like they do not give a damn about pedestrians or cyclists. Speedy? Why do you say that Adrian? How fast is an 8 year old capable of going? We do not know that she zipped out in front of him. It was perhaps truly just a sad accident and the driver was unfortunate. The fact remains, however, that there is a problem here and perhaps police should spend more time watching out for bad driving rather than cyclists parking in the wrong place. I saw two cops parked outside a supermarket for three hours today checking on cyclists. Ridiculous.
