Uh, Canada does have a consumption tax, it's called GST goods and service tax. It is 5% but each province has its own provincial tax added to it which is why provinces like Nova Scotia where I'm from have a tax of around 15%. Nova Scotia merged the 2 taxes into the HST or harmonized sales tax. It isn't a very good comparison though because I don't think there are added "prefecture" taxes

It was actually in New Brunswick, not Montreal. I can only assume they put Montreal because they are both parts of French Canada.

I was just searching how to help in that area (like a few day trips from Tokyo) when my building shook. When I looked to see where it was I was surprised and a little freaked out to see it was in the exact spot I was googling. Hope everyone is okay!

Oh come on, just because it's Japan doesn't mean there aren't women who are selling their bodies for sustenance. Do you think everyone in a developed country just magically has everything they need and that there are no poor? On the other hand, yes there are women who do it because they enjoy it or do find it the best way to make a living and all the power to them.

Oh yea, those scientist are stupid people, (I'm rolling my eyes here). They most definitely had to dumb it down for anyone to understand in the slightest, that one line obviously does not do the complexity of the particle justice. But by all means, equate one line online with years and years of research. Use that as your proof that the scientists are stupid.

I like how they named the perpetrator and not the victim! Too many times only the victim is named.

I just quoted myself ha. I was addressing SuperLIb with my question: Why do you say that? I am a Canadian and quite proud of most of the encounters I've had with Canadian tourists. I at least pride myself in trying to help others when they ask and try to be as courteous as possible wherever I am.

I don't like generalizations for any nationality. There may be some slight links between people from the same country but there are many more differences! I do however believe people do change based on if they are in a foreign country, especially if they are there for only a short time. So I agree with smithinJapan.

Personally, I think German and Canadian tourists are the worst. Why do you say that? I am a Canadian and quite proud of most of the encounters I've had with Canadian tourists. I at least pride myself in trying to help others when they ask and try to be as courteous as possible wherever I am.
