Believe the Friday magazine report referred to in the above article suggesting the victim had debt from yakuza is over 3 months back. More of recent reports seem to suggest they attacked the wrong guy as part of a yakuza war including some sources saying one of the two guys turning themselves already confirmed as such.

Seems the ship was sold by the government under DPJ's budget screening initiative led by Renho. Ironic how the funds will serve as Japan's revenue needed to support the scientific research activities.

Known fact confirmed over 30 yrs ago. Should serve as a big lift for anti-nuclear parties incl DPJ. Interesting how this came out at this particular timing just before the election.

Posted in: Girl hit by train may have committed suicide due to bullying, say police See in context

Bullying at schools are inevitable the world over, especially in developed countries. Children are liable to consider suicide as the easiest solution available to relieve them from their suffering, heavily influenced by the extreme media coverage of every suicide which continues to take place, one being triggered by the other. Of course these are all impulsive and can be prevented, all the more why the schools most certainly when they are actually consulted by the parents who were consulted by their own child (certainly a critical red light warning) should handle the situation with utmost attention, caution and sensitivity. More discretion is also required on the part of the media with ideally more emphasis on the negative implications of suicides than simply pointing fingers at the bad guys for mere temporary catharsis and evident risk of inviting another.

Surely he was thinking only about his local supporters when he made that awful remark. Big mistake.

tmarie: Don't think there is any local media which actually did that. Profile of Kanto Rengo is fairly well known especially following a series of incidents involving Ebizo and other celebrities.

Nessie: It is being reported most recently as yesterday that there seem to be no link between the victim and the gang except for the fact that the possible target and the victim looked very much alike in appearance. The police seem to now believe they took actions under yakuza orders but attacked the wrong guy.

Kanto Rengo basically consists of Japan nationals who are former bosozoku members. Many of these members have later become yakuzas including the main figure behind this murder who belongs to the Sumiyoshi group. There are some zainichi Chinese who were also part of this but are not related to Kanto Rengo. There seems to be a high possibility that they killed the wrong guy and were actually planning to attack someone else belonging to the Yamaguchi group.

In this day and age really difficult to believe such a manoeuver actually works in diverting attention from food shortage and poverty in the public mind.

Frungy: Sorry if you took it that way, but the point was in touching upon the secondary tragedy of those who had to witness the incident after noticing her "odd" behavior and may thus blame themselves regardless of whether prevention was at all realistically possible, by no means in my actually blaming them for what took place.

Another part of this tragedy is that some of the witnesses who took notice of her strange behavior before the incident occurred will probably regret for the rest of their lives not having predicted what may happen and taken preventive actions.

Not so sure, cracaphat. Perhaps the term barnburner may have been more appropriate, defined as a "very "tight" boxing match". http://www.sportspundit.com/boxing/terms/487-barnburner

Not so unusual to develop pneumonia after an esophageal cancer surgery. What is perhaps not so usual is the pneumonia to develop into ARDS which is far more fatal.

Tight game. Ruiz may have deivered the higher number of punches but they were well handled and guarded by Kameda. Eventually Ruiz wore out and Kameda was able to turn things around at the end. Maybe a close call but believe Kameda had a good strategy and deserved the win.

Posted in: Despite 2011 disaster, pro-nuclear LDP favored to win power See in context

Having 50% of the population undecided on which party to vote for just 2 weeks before the election is not a healthy situation for a nation the size of Japan to be in.

Meanwhile, really unfortunate that Hashimoto has turned all quiet and blurry ever since he joined hands with Ishihara, as if the two have already agreed to get the party focused on a post-electoral coalition with the LDP. Ishihara is obviously too old to wait for the so-called third force to gain real independent ruling power and may have convinced Hashimoto into toning down all that third force-like rhetoric promising to do whatever he can to ensure Hashimoto becomes PM at the one after the next.

Good that Watanabe is not giving into all that electoral politics and staying firm with his original principles, but believe he will consequently need to decide to draw the line on his friendship with Hashimoto and focus on differentiating themselves as the true big city salaryman's liberal party, otherwise he may be one of the first to fall victim to all this blurriness which may otherwise only benefit the to be ruling coalition to be formed without his influence.

Quite unprecedented in Japan to have a major tunnel shortly after periodic inspections to suddenly collapse and cause tragedy of this nature and magnitude. Certainly a strong wake up call for more stringent and thorough inspections to be implemented nationwide as there are so many other massive tunnels built during the same period ie the economic high growth era of which the high ceilings may have possibly been considered to be ok under visual inspections only. Truly unfortunate and sad that it had to be confirmed this way.
