If rates go up the Japanese Government would pay way more on its own debt. That is by far the most important reason when you are using your Master Card to pay your Visa bill.
They have an approval rating in the low 20’s, they couldn’t care less if you have to hunt for your own food, but it’s even better if you buy a new AC and fridge before you start eating pigeons. Why not a new car too?

Pilots take two (or 3) alcohol checks before duty and one after.
Maybe not relevant to the headline, but this pilot tested negative prior to his flight back to Japan. The flight was cancelled due to doubts about his mental state (causing a scene that involved the police). He passed his alcohol check (0.00 reading on the approved alcohol check device) in Dallas.
Just stating facts, not defending the guy.

The Mexican Peso has appreciated 20% vs the USD from its lowest during the pandemic (when it fell about 10%). The two daily flights from Mexico City to Narita packed with Mexican tourists suggest the Yen is already below the Mexican Peso. Pick a different currency to make your point, maybe not from Latin America or Africa for a change.

Yesterday in Japan: 216,000 + cases, 400+ deaths.
China is 11 times bigger than Japan in terms of population. Multiply Japan’s numbers by 11 and you get 2,376,000+ cases and 4,565 deaths.
Fear and xenophobia beat math again.
The current (pre-Friday) entry procedures for Japan do not recognize Chinese vaccines. In order for any person from China to enter Japan a PCR test would be required anyway. The new restrictions make no difference other than once again give a false sense of security and a perception of toughness and competence by the Kishida Administration.
Yes, the USA will also apply restrictions to Chinese entries, but they currently have absolutely no safeguard at all, unlike Japan.

I don’t know of any country which targeted anyone who had been in Japan when Japan had the highest COVID rates in the world for many weeks (even months).
This is Kishida at his best…..another racist move to make his followers happy.
It is sad to see him return to the old xenophobic tactics to gain some popularity.
Enjoy your small bump in popularity Mr. Kishida, it won’t be long before you’re gone!

As mentioned before, sad but not surprising.
Poland has accepted over 6 million Ukrainian refugees. In the Fall of 2021 they hosed down Afghan refugees to keep them out at the Belarusian border.
Sadly Japan is not the only racist country around (though they’re pretty high on the list).

Caught it last month. The only reason I got tested was I lost my sense of smell.
If you are double vaccinated this is not even a regular cold. Isolating while feeling well enough to go work out was the hard part.
We are all going to catch it. Vaccinate and live your life. I had the flu some years ago, that was way rougher.

Xenophobia is a two-way street. Hope I see more countries reciprocating Japan’s heavy handed and racist “solutions”.
I haven’t read of many Japanese students or workers whose lives have been destroyed by blanket-eternal bans on their foreign destinations. Didn’t the former princess just move to NYC?
If this is for safety then it should be applied both ways.
