Posted in: Toyota says new small iQ offers quality See in context

they probably named it "iQ" because of their competitor the "SMART" car -- then at some point decided to come up with a list of words that might possibly justify it as original...

anyways, these 3 cylinder micro-machines, get about the same gas mileage as other cars out on the market, only they are much smaller. If you ever drive/own one, you better hope you never have to drive up-hill.

Posted in: 79-year-old man arrested for blocking street with garbage in Saitama See in context

so since they arrested him (for only up to 3 months) are they going to empty his trash as well, or simply leave it up to him and the honor system.

hopefully they take a bull-dozer / tractor of some sort and a large trash truck (or two) and just pile everything in there and take it to a hidden trash depot.

i wonder if collecting items / trash is not only this old man's favorite pass-time, but his life as well?

i would be very interested in seeing this -- though i wonder how they compare to the original, or even the movie for that matter?

Posted in: Japan holds diaper fashion show -- for adults See in context

more people might be inclined toward them if they weren't labeled diapers perhaps -- anyone know if the same word in japanese is used for a babies' diaper as well as an elderly person's?

not that any of the skinny models are unattractive, but even if hiroko's chest was much less prominent, i would still pick her over the others -- but i will say this, she feels more like a model you would see at a dance club rather than a model you would see at a fashion show (which these other girls seem to be).

48 members?? What the hell's the point?

My thoughts exactly (quite literally)

looks like fun -- though i wonder if you can feel the roughness of the rock(s) as you slide down?

Posted in: Woman, 37, arrested for stabbing 14-year-old son with knife after argument over PC See in context

romulus3,

what does putting a computer in an open room have to do with being computer savy? perhaps using the internal modem (if it had one) might fall into that realm, but otherwise, I would just assume that to be common sense.

i wonder how the relationship between the mother and the son is going to play out from this point -- i bet she had other episodes before this incident, so their relationship probably wasn't too solid to begin with.

i mean seriously though, if i was an enraged, possibly crazed parent, i would just grab the computer and break it to pieces...

i'm surprised he wasn't playing World of Warcraft or it's japanese equivalent -- maybe he was just got caught up in some intensive research for a school related project >_>

as a way to limit his usage, she should just put the computer in the "family room" or somewhere out in the open so he loses his privacy while using it. Also, assuming the computer had internet, she should just use a regular old modem (without call waiting), nothing more frustrating than a slow internet connection that gets interrupted (possibly the best deterrent for prolonged usage).

well, at least these great grand beasties don't have to lift much more than 100lbs...

However, sunflowers are scratchy and not much fun to play in so maybe she is trying to get out.

just noticed the other person's face -- i'm guessing she's on the back/shoulders of her mom, so she's not the one getting scratched up

Very cute picture, however, why is the quality so low? Even at such a small size I can see artifacts...

Posted in: 10-year-old schoolgirl suffers head injury after diving into pool in Yamagata See in context

i don't see why they were even making a 10yr old shallow-water dive to begin with. kids at that age should be doing cannon balls and learning to doggie paddle, or swim underwater.

and with only 90cm, are they RETARDED?!

Posted in: Miyazaki releases first film in four years See in context

“Five-year-old kids do not think with reason but rather they understand the true nature of the world instinctively,” he said.

I love Miyazaki films, but i think he overestimates kids -- the same 5 yr old could instinctively watch sponge bob or Dragon Ball Z without end simply because of the colorful moving images and sound effects...

Though, if this is truly going to be his last film, I am very much going to miss him. (Somehow I doubt his son will be able to continue the legacy, but you never know...)

Posted in: Apple sells 1 million iPhones in first 3 days See in context

the reason i consider the iPhone a fad/novelty is it relies entirely on hype--don't get me wrong, the iPhone has some cool features, but at the price you have to pay, i don't think it is worth it. i figure that once everyone gets bored with it, they will drop back down to something that is more affordable. (just my opinion though).

Youdontknow -> so do you plan to keep your Softbank/iPhone service?

I wonder how long the iPhone fad will last -- novelties tend to die out quickly, but Apple is a clever bunch so I'm sure it will manage to stick around for a while...

Is the service provider still Verizon in Japan? That is one of the things that prevented me from getting one a while back, well, that and the sheer price/monthly charge of it.
