On balance, it seems to me the Olympic risk is overstated. The bigger problem is lax quarantine standards for the 100K+ returned travelers coming into Japan every month. Quarantining at home is a farce with many reportedly breaking quarantine and spreading the virus. At least athletes and their entourage will be properly quarantined.

Do we need to check to make sure all the registrations are legitimate? Isn’t the most important thing ensuring that we get vaccinations in as many people as quickly as possible? Why are we wasting time with this booking and checking system?? Just get on the with the vaccinations!

The big elephant in the room is that thousands of Japanese citizens and residents returning to Japan every week without proper quarantine. That is the Root cause of why we have so many coronavirus cases in Japan. If proper hotel quarantine measures were implemented like Australia or China, we would not be in this problem.

BigYen, the truck driver was victim to a medical episode immediately prior to the crash, so it’s unreasonable to blame him. Terrible tragedy.
