"...a 4-season reimagining of the 1970s series about the battle between the forces of good (humans) and evil (Cylons) in outer space."

WRONG and WRONG. BSG is about what it means to be human - the human condition. Specifically labelling neither side as good or evil is a constant theme of the show.

Nessie: Give it a rest - the show wasn't cancelled. Sci-fi fans would be the first to admit it if it was true. Hundreds of precedents for that. And by the way - go back and watch the original BSG. It is so campy and amateur that you wouldn't last an episode. Yes, I used to watch it too.

BSG is one of the darkest dramas on TV at the moment. It may not be happy, but man is it good.

I’m petite, professional, outgoing and American. It shouldn’t be that hard, right?

Posted in: Try to get a credit card in Japan See in context

Here we go again... this has come up a few times on JT. You don't need to be in Japan for X years or anything like that. There are semi-automated machines in several train stations in Tokyo, at least, that will give you Saison cards in AMEX, MC or VISA flavours, in about an hour. You have to fill out a form, and have the machine scan your passport etc. The machine gives you a receipt which you use later to retrieve your card. Worked for me, and for some of the last batch of JT posters that asked the question. It's all in Japanese, of course, but what do you expect? Expecting to get a Credit Card in Japan using English is highly parochial and naive.

Google "SAISON CARD MAKER"

Posted in: Japan resumes whale meat imports See in context

I am all against hunting whales for any purpose, but....

I admit that on one drunken final feast before I left Japan we ordered a whale steak at an Izakaya under the tracks somewhere in central Tokyo and.. and... I'm sorry but it was delicious. Just like a soft, juicy and quite rare steak.

Some other of the old-school JT posters were with me. You know who you are...

While the story horrifies friends and family back home, I think I have a better position to argue for it.

Thanks for the link to the large pics. Lovely models, if a bit randomly posed. And yes Koda Kumi has tree stumps for legs...

But adding an external clunky 1-seg tuner which then communicates with the iPhone via wifi? How messy!. Just cope with fact that it doesn't do 1-seg.

Hmmm no, I think it's fair to say that there are quite a few mad rooters out there. As far as reading porn anime on trains, well it's a social hang-up that causes the reaction in you, not any particular problem with the porn reader. Just a matter of perpective. I somewhat envy their genuinely more relaxed attitude to sex actually.

"Euro-centric"? Dude, it started in Greece. I think baseball and softball have had a good run for a "Euro-centric" organisation. Basketball should be next to go. God knows how BMX got into it even as a demo sport. As a mate said to me over a beer while watching it at a pub... "Guys that big shouldn't be riding bikes that small..."

The sun isn't "natural background radiation". Did they mean to say "15 minutes of exposure to natural background radiation" (negligible) or "15 minutes of exposure to the sun" (a lot).
