Okay so I get it, the economy is the only thing that really matters a long with Japanese support of freedom of rights. Government won't mandate anything as doesn't want to pay any compensation and can't because Japan is such a free country. But my question is what happens if the hospitals start to get overloaded and Tokyo starts to look like New York, what happens then? Do the trains keep running and people keep going to work, izakayas, hairdressers and night life as usual? Gotta keep the economy going and don't meddle with my freedom of rights, sorry about those in the hospital etc.

The other day the chairman of Toyota said if Tokyo becomes like New York the country can never recover but meanwhile the country does almost nothing to stop this happening.

Simple and probably the only realistic solution is to lock up people's doors like they did in Wuhan.

Great idea. Then even more people can die of starvation. There has to be a balance but clearly Izakayas do not meet that balance.

What will happen if Tokyo starts to resemble New York? Do the trains still keep running on normal timetable so people can keep going to DIY, Department stores, barber shops and Izakayas whilst the hospitals become overloaded and worse?

Japan has nothing to be worried if there are sufficient preparations.

Then we have a lot to be worried about

To all the people who advocate against a lockdown or think Japan's watered down version is a big success what will happen if you are wrong and Tokyo starts to resemble New York? Do the trains still keep running on normal timetable and people keep going to work, barber shops and Izakayas whilst the hospitals become overloaded and worse? Not saying it will happen but it has to be a definite possibility, which even the government acknowledges as suddenly now they have started making plans for it.

So? They have reiterated. Doctors used to prescribe cigarettes to sick people decades ago. Rush Limbaugh says cigarettes don't cause cancer. Trump is still stuck on blaming CNN and Hillary.

This article is about Trump blaming WHO, not about CNN or Hillary.

I do not support or like Trump. Trump has heaps to blame on himself and yes he should have realised about WHO being totally wrong sooner, but all that does not change that was he is saying now about WHO is correct. I cannot understand comments in this forum from Trump hater who choose to support WHO just because Trump said it. Please look at the track record of WHO in this. They are clearly incompetent or worse.

Criticise Trump for the numerous things he deserves it for but don't just support WHO out of hate for Trump.

Trump is right . Don't shoot the messenger

WHO continued to advocate not having travel bans that all countries are now doing. Imagine the world situation if these had been instigated months or even weeks age. (Same person who shamefully refused to talk about why WHO ignores Taiwan - check it online all you WHO supporters)

Dr. Bruce Aylward, who led a WHO team in China during the raging COVID-19 outbreak there last month, said in an interview that travel bans “generally aren't part of the armamentarium you bring to bear on something like this.”

"What we found, as a general principle - not a general principle, a pretty robust principle - is that it doesn't help to restrict movement,”

An example of the great job the WHO has done for all you WHO supporters. Straight from their puppet masters

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China,” the organization had said.

I am most certainly not a Trump supporter but just because it is him saying it doe not mean it is wrong. Not everything he say has to be wrong just because he says it and in this case he is most certainly 100% correct.

WHO is clearly a puppet of China and have been wrong and late on all of their calls. Remember they recommended NOT to stop world travel and close borders thereby allowing the virus to spread worldwide. China locked down Wuhan to the rest of China but still allowed fInternational flights to fly out of Wuhan to infect the rest of the world. Then for weeks they refused to call pandemic when Blind Freddy could see the virus was spreading and was already a pandemic. They keep paying it can be averted bah blah. Look at the world now thanks in good part to them! And more recently continue to advocate against the need to wear masks when the USA and most countries are now realising that wearing a mask has some value and many places mandating when going outdoors.

Trump haters, hold off on this Trump is occasionally right!

It is not "if" but "when" There is no "if" for any country in the world. The useless WHO have been saying "if" since it started in China and look at the world now. No country can not follow the curve. They can only flatten it by extreme actions which Japan is not doing. Keeping numbers low by restricted testing doesn't stop the spread. Indonesia had no cases for months. look at it now,

Also most of the thousands of infected are not the problem as they have mild symptoms and get better. Japan already has some thousands of those. The problem is the % of the thousands who will need intensive medical care and how the medical system can cope. This is the problem everywhere and how Abe can refuse to see this is going to happen with the rising curve, (even with the restricted testing here) is just astounding.

The lockdown cure has the potential to be more damaging than the disease. If food supply and chains fail, if essential services cease and/or if people have no income or money for food, we will see increased crime, unrest and social chaos. Already it is happening in Southern Italy. Gang raids and people starving.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShO_oMmbTXk

And it is early days now. What will it be like when more countries are like Italy and Spain prolonged lockdown and hospital systems overrun. Wjhat will happen in the US with all its guns. And how will life be in Japan when there is no food or people have no money to buy any!

Indeed the cure has the potential to be worse than the disease

Posted in: Tokyo Olympic organizers eye July 2021 for start of Games: reports See in context

The chance of the Olympics next year summer are zero to none. Unlikely the virus will be over by then but even if it was the economic recession and ramifications will not. The world will be a different place. Nothing will be the same. Companies and businesses will no longer exist, International air travel almost ceasing next month will not be as it was. Some countries may no longer exist in their current form. How blind and stupid are these people to what is going on in the world. The economic chaos the lockdowns have leashed is not an ordinary event that will suddenly go away. And more than likely now Japan will go into its own lockdowns next month, as even the highly restricted testing cannot stop the numbers rising daily now. People in Japan and the world will have far more important priorities.

How reassuring when so much of Japan's food supply is imported and this could very well cease when things get bad in the countries we import it from. Let alone the question of maintaining food supply chains when things soon explode within the country with lockdowns and mass illness. .

Tokyo has used its time till now well to prepare for the virus which will 'overshoot' next month. Obviously they thought why bother when the numbers of cases in Japan and Tokyo are so low.

Just this week on Monday they had a meeting about increasing the 118 beds they have now for the outbreak and are seeking cooperation for their plan to have 4000, actually its only 700 for intensive care

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20200323_32/

Contrast what is going on in New York and the preparation they are doing. And the situation in Tokyo will soon be similar to New York. Unfortunately the Japanese policy of not testing to keep numbers low so the Olympics could go ahead doesnt cure the disease and didn't even save the Olympics

They learn nothing. Still scheduling when really no one has any ideas when this situation will be over in Japan or the rest of the world. Some experts are suggesting 12 -18 months till a vaccine is found and distributed. Maybe it will be sooner. Who knows. Meanwhile Tokyo is about to go in to overshoot and likely a lockdown will follow. How bad will it get.

Scheduling the next Olympics is not going to be on anyone's priority for a while.

I am no expert but from what we see everywhere " gradual increase" especially when supported by limited testing, only lasts for so long till it explodes.

Have a look what is now happening in Indonesia and Turkey that had zero cases for weeks. Does anyone really think Japan's gradual increase can go on forever?

Osaka already coming out and saying they looking at nearly 4,000 cases by April 3. I hope the Japanese people are prepared for the coming carnage.

Carnage?

You really do need to tone it down a bit.

I think Carnage is a very appropriate term for what is coming

Anyone who think it is all good in Japan needs to go on youtube and have a look at the videos coming out of the hospitals in Italy. This is happening. Most of the world is now realising it can happen to them, But not Japan.

Why should Japan, now relaxing measures to slow the spread, be spared. China and South Korea have slowed things by strong efforts to slow it but Japan is going to do it by relaxing measures and even hold the Olympics as well!

Carnage is an appropriate word for what is coming. Please check the videos from Italy for a preview.

Looking at Italy, it seems Japan did something right because the hospitals aren't being overrun with dying persons.

Yet!

But trying harder to replicate Italy now by curtailing efforts to slow it down even, as the story indicates, numbers keep rising ( despite their best efforts to lower them by limited testing!)

The Japanese little kids are so cute

Cute little kids worldwide are not in health danger from the virus itself. This is already very clear. But the same cannot be said for their great grandparent, grandparents and even parents (a lot of reports about over 40's in intensive care in the US and Italy, not just over 80's)

I wonder, as the weather gets warmer, is the spread is decelerating?

Meanwhile look in SE Asian countries what is happening now. The continually warm weather there is not helping them much. They are all on the verge of explosion in the next few weeks after limited and minimal testing created an illusion they didn't have a virus problem these last couple months. Indonesia had no cases for a long time - look at it now!

Meanwhile anyone had a look at the videos from Italy? Or what is developing in the rest of Europe which looks like being similar very soon?

Why does Japan think they can avoid this on the grounds of their limited restricted testing and half hearted attempts to slow the thing and even go so far as to reduce those attempts?

This is not a game of words. If they are wrong the consequences of it coming back are rather far more serious than the whole "told you so" thing and it will not be fine at all.

With the world going into massive recession and economies going to be in chaos or ruin with massive unemployment and bankruptcies, airlines not flying and many will be bankrupt, borders closed , countries in lockdown, people worried about their next meal and who knows what will be happening in their hospitals and morgues, athletes can't prepare and no more qualifiers, who believes anything Japan or the IOC say about having the Olympics or their broadcasting rights and the economics of it will make any difference.! Even if they could, which won't be possible anyhow, who is going to come spectator or entrant? The sports people are already revolting as latest stories indicate.
