Shame we can't hire the Chinese Navy to protect the whales in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary from the annual Japanese slaughter.

Posted in: Is Japan really racist? See in context

Personally I find Japanese males to be quite racist though the proper description may look more like a combination of that and feeling protective of the females; something at lease somewhat instinctive rather than malicious. I've not been to Japan so I don't know what it's like there but my Korean wife had many Japanese friends in ESL and I've known many Asian women throughout my life and the 1 thing I finally understood is don't tell Japanese (or Korean for that matter) men that you are attracted to their women!!! That seems to be an unforgivable line to cross?

But of Japanese ladies I never met one that was racist toward white people, just the opposite I find them to be very open minded and a lot of fun. (Africans another story tho)

Wow, nothing upsets a zionist like the potential for peace! Iran hasn't attacked another country in over 225 years, in the last weeks Israel has attacked Lebanon, Gaza and Syria... Iran is not the one the world needs to be worried about.

Nice to see so many positive comments here. With Taiji opening a Whale watching tour and the culture in Japan changing maybe there's hope for these amazing animals. Nice to seee that Watson get's to go home the terrorists are the ones committing murder.

A good positive step if the new industry is to replace imprisoning, killing and abducting cetaceans, otherwise it's just demented. As we've seen in North America the Whale Watching Industry is lucrative, fun and educational.

Dolphins and other cetaceans have self awareness, language, families and similar intelligence to humans, don't eat cetaceans or at least research about finding 'spindle cells in cetaceans'.

Posted in: WWII comfort women: the pain that time cannot heal See in context

Using the term "comfort women" to describe sex slaves is beyond deplorable: the only thing imaginable that could be worse than committing such inhumane sex crimes would be doing so, then calling the victims a psychotic term such as 'comfort women'... comfort for who not the surviving victims, not the ones that were beaten or staved to death? Not the families or the people... is it comfort for the rapists to ease their sick nature or is it for the nation from which they came to ease their shame?

If a human being can be healed from such trauma who can say, some scars are too deep for the mind to allow one to feel, but a recognition and amends could go a long way: denying or ignoring will definitely not help those who were victimized.

Good on JT for not calling them 'comfort women', I've always found that term to be sadistically insulting and a way of furthering their pain and disgrace.

Posted in: Aso's gaffe exposes Japanese ignorance of Jews See in context

Certainly it's insensitive to use 'Jew' in a derogatory way referring to swindle or any other negative reference and any Jew has a right to protest: but the Simon Wiesenthal Center does way too much hatemongering and promoting Islamophobia to be criticizing anyone.

The holocaust was horrific but those of us who live on the earth now are not responsible and should not be held to settle the account, especially in the one place in the world that always welcomed Jews and protected them from the Nazi's in Palestine.

How arrogant and simplistic for anyone to think that the issue of anti whaling has to do with wanting to change Japanese culture.

We want to change the whales culture: after all is is them that are dying! The Whaling advocates in Japanese culture suffer from what... hurt feelings and an inferiority complex?

Thank your government if, God Forbid, a future disaster happens: I gave money 4 times( A % of each paycheck after the tsunami) almost every single person I know donated something, even children. I would never kill a whale nor would I allow anyone else to harm any cetacean while I was present... but some of my hard earned money may have gone to support an illegal and immoral Whale kill? Hard to ever trust the Japanese government again or send funds that way. Do I want to change your culture? I want to change the Whale's Culture: they are the ones that are dying. Learn about Cetaceans, they have Spindle Cells like humans, they have self awareness like you!

If Japan will not respect international law then it should not get international events like the Olympics. If the courts fail the Whales, then the Olympic bid will serve as a large platform to bring it into the light.

Even though they failed, The Janese govs intent to kill an endangered species in a designated sanctuary crosses so may moral and ethical boundaries, I believe I will never be able to think of Japan in a good light again. I just can't understand or believe the cold hearted and simple minded excuses!

The struggle to get the Japanese public to recognize this is a humanitarian effort and to get them to look at the scientific data has become too much trouble for the effort , the whales still need to be saved but our attempts to reason have always been to deaf ears and I see no sign of change. Sacrificing the life of cetaceans because of one (SICK) cultural characteristic? Ok then keep your products in Japan and live in isolation and we'll see you in Antarctica..

It's an easy shift not to want to kill whales, just need to be open minded enough to listen to science and common sense. Whales are not fish, cetaceans are not food.

Posted in: Sea Shepherd says Japanese whalers rammed two of its ships See in context

The good news is ... only 1 whale was killed in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary this year and all whaling vessels are headed North.

Millions of yen were once again wasted but hundreds of lives were not. The Japan gov can likely stop paying their shills now. ( who were a waste of money to begin with and couldn't win an argument with a stuttering monkey)

Posted in: Sea Shepherd says Japanese whalers rammed two of its ships See in context

...So sensitive for those who would harpoon a whale?

Forget about science proving anything about sustainable whaling. Science has proven that whales have spindle cells which are for self awareness, given that and some other exceptional characteristics anyone with sense and any heart would stop killing them period.

Arguing for killing an animal unnecessarily (via a loophole?) best go have a talk with the person in the mirror!

Posted in: Sea Shepherd says Japanese whalers rammed two of its ships See in context

Can't understand why the Japanese news keeps missing the best part: The whalers also accidentally rammed the Korean refueling vessel. The Koreans are very angry and everyone is headed north. If the Koreans keep going the season is done with 1 whale killed and Japanese Whaling is done with one MORE massive waste of public funds.

Science is showing us much about Cetaceans. The Japanese public needs and deserves to understand about these creatures. Their social skills have always amazed people but we find now that whales and Dolphins have spindle cells which were thought to be exclusively human and are believed to allow for self awareness.

This one scientific discovery should be enough to at least give us a reason to take pause. There is much to learn about Cetaceans they are not' "just another animal" . They are the animal at the top of the most important ecosystem on our planet and as that ecosystem goes ... so do we.

Posted in: Whaling costs Japan taxpayers $10 mil a year, animal welfare group says See in context

A Japanese fisheries agency official declined to comment, saying the agency was not aware of the IFAW statement. But he said Japanese whaling was scientific research and was not an industry.

I guess he's not aware a couple of months ago the Min. of Fisheries said the whaling industry was indeed an industry as a way to justify using Tsunami Relief Funds. Lying gets so complicated who could blame him.

And they want an Olympics? Better get a fatter wallet out than the one that was keeping the whaling industry afloat! You can't thumb your nose at the international community then come around sniffing for favors.

Hopefully the 'East Asian nations' will decide to find ways to get needed aid to the Palestinian people, giving money to the PA is financing the occupation. Unfortunately my Canadian gov is without honor and all our money goes to the PA by way of (of course) Israel.
