Who do you think you're kidding, comrade? If Russia were so concerned with civilian casualties then they would have sued for peace and not armed rebels? They didn't.

Who do you think you're kidding, pal? Russia was not a part of the conflict when it started, it could not "sue for peace". And how do you imagine "peace" with gangs of bloothirsty thugs who came just to kill you? In Odessa on May 2, 2014 they burned alive dozens of people, clubbing to death anyone who tried to get out from the burning building. In Donbass they bombed and shelled cities with airplanes and heavy artillery while people there had almost nothing but rifles. How do you imagine peace with such animals?

Your Kremlin talking points are fooling no one

Your Kyev talking points are fooling no one

Yawn. They also wrote about numerous Russian war crimes, talk about those pall

Yawn? At war crimes? Why I'm not surprised by such attitude...

They wrote nonsense about Russian war crimes while completely ignoring Ukrainian crimes. Awake at last. Must be Ukrainians overdid themselves.

Try defending the castration of Ukrainian POWs by Russian war criminals

Try defending the torture and shootings of wounded Russian POWs by Ukrainian war criminals. There were several videos a couple of months ago.

Hey you want to know how to limit civilian casualties in Ukraine? By not invading in the first place

Hey you want to know how to limit civilian casualties in Ukraine? In the first place, by not starting a civil war, by not unleashing the swastika-brandishing Hitler-loving nationalist thugs on peaceful populace. By not killing the people of Donbass for eight years.

Yes, and they're also correct in pointing out Russian war crimes in Ukraine

If even Amnesty finally admitted massive Ukrainian war crimes it means they are so widespread and horrible that no longer can be overlooked. There is a reason why the locals are so everwhelmengly against the regime.

@Peter14

That is a matter for Ukraine citizens at the next general election Ukraine holds.

Donbass fighters alongside the Russian army are Ukrainian citizens. And I hope they'll make Zelensky and his regime accountable for all their crimes.

blatantly false. Pure Russian propaganda. eastern Ukraine was a peaceful area until Putin sent in the antagonists to provoke unrest in 2014

Blatantly false. Pure Ukrainian propaganda. Donbass was a peaceful area until coup d'etat plotters sent in the army to make the region "pure Ukrainian" in 2014.

Ukrainian people are fighting for their freedom

Those dozens of thousands of Ukrainians who fight alongside the Russian army against the regime, they are fighting for their freedom against the oppression. The regime fights fot the chimera of "Ukrainian reich".

@Nemo

The Russians are running out of tanks that don't spontaneously combust, LOL

I keep hearing these stories ("Russians are out of personnel / tanks / missiles") from March, LOL. I hear the stories "Russian economy in tatters, they are out of money" since 2014, LOL. You listen to Zelensky too much.

@Bob Fosse

Dozens of thousands. Sounds complicated. Wouldn’t it be easier to say gazzilions?

Is something between 80 - 100 thousands (figures vary) in Donbass forces more comprehensible to you? Gazzillion - is more suitable to the Ukroforces.

@rainyday

Ah, so the purpose of the Russian invasion is revenge now, is it?

For the Russians the purpose is denazification, they did not have to endure the horrible crimes of Ukroforces since 2014. For the people of Donbass - the puspose is freedom from the Ukronazism, retribution to perpetrators. Can't blame them for that.

@Ah_so

I would call Russian invaders "fascist" rather than neo-Naz

Very surprising the amount of effort some make to cover with fancy semantics the ugly reality of Ukrainian ultranationalism, which is in fact is fascism.

The Russian army is exhausted and spent

The Russian army fights with only volunteer force, smaller than the Ukroarmy. Meanwhile in Ukraine men from 18 to 60 are banned from leaving the country, draft men are hunting for fresh recruits on streets. Yeah, it's obvious which army is exhausted and spent.

The US and Western supplied weapons are coming on stream and are having an effect

Tha same streams as in South Vietnam and Afghanistan-2021? I hope NATO also have aircraft on the ready for a quick evacuation.

@rainyday

But being raped and tortured by Russian Neo-Nazis, as they are now, is OK?

Tell this fancy stories to the dozens of thousands of ex-Ukrainians who fight in the Donbass forces alongside the Russian army to kick out the Ukronazi trash. Donbass was raped and tortured since 2014. Now it's payback time.

Rabid Ukrainian nationalism? Holy hyperbole, batman. To be sure there is some nationalism in Ukraine

"Some nationalism"? That is holy hyperbole, batman. When they start a military campaign under a motto "Donbass will be Ukrainian or will be dead", it sure sounds not-nationalist and very progressive, right?

Which makes it very weird that the president of Ukraine is Jewish

A figurehead, to show him to visiting Western dignitaries. "Tatemae", as it said in Japan. What about official state heroes, WWII Nazi collaborators and SS thugs? What about street Nazi gangs who kill with impunity?

I'm sure Russia supplying separatists with arms for years certainly helped matters, didn't it?

Before the coup d'etat of 2014 there were no separatists and no insurrections. A brutal military campaign of forced Ukrainization, as well as treatment of people of Donbass as second-rate citizens who are "not Ukrainian enough" certainly helped matters, didn't it?

@ClippetyClop

Imagine if you only had to deal with having your country invaded, towns levelled, citizens murdered, women raped

Now you have a pretty accurate idea what the people of Donbass had to endure since 2014.

@takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com

There's nothing fascist about the Ukrainian government

Except that its ideology is rabid Ukrainian nationalism, its official state heroes are WWII local Nazi collaborators such as members of 14th Ukrainian Waffen-SS Division "Galicina", it symbols are very close to Nazi Germany's paraphernalia, and it treats local population of Donbass just as Nazi WWII killing squads did.

@Cricky

The story has changed sorry, nor harpoon missiles at all? The west did it? Wasn’t us said a Russian spokesperson might have been the same person who claimed they didn’t shoot down the civilian airliner

Why? Harpoon missiles were the prime target. And the civilian airliner was shot down by Ukrainians. They also did it once before, shot down another jet in 2001.

@Haaa Nemui

We know how good they are at hitting those military targets. Especially military shopping malls, military children’s hospitals and now military grain silos

We know how good the Ukrainians are at using local population as human shields and using civilian infrastructure to hide their soldiers and military equipment. This tactics was perfected by ISIS in Syria, the Ukroforces learned their tricks.

We also know how one-sided MSM reports are. They ignored for eight years the bombardments of Donbass by Ukroforces and all their crimes there since 2014, they ignored how Ukraine broke two peace agreements of 2015, they ignore massive bombardments of cities now. The city of Kherson (supposedly "Ukrainian") was hit with dozens of US-supplied HIMARS missiles recently, Two days ago Ukrainian drones attacked the Zaporozhye nuclear power station. Nothing in Western news so far.

... have you looked at Russian troops?

Have you seen the Wagner mercenaries? Most of them displaying some kind of Nazi symbols

Wagner is a private security company, not a part of the regular army. Anyway, can you share their Nazi symbols? In Russia one can get a real prison term for displaying Nazi symbols.

By the way, do you know how the Russians detect Ukrosoldiers after they shed their uniforms and put on civilian clothes? They ask the Ukrainians to show their bodies, these idiots usually cover themselves with swastikas, SS emblems, portraits of Hitler etc. In Ukraine it is A NORM.

"side-effect" killing civilians, children (more than 300 so far)

Compare it with side effects ("collateral damage") in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or the number of people killed intentionally by Ukroforces.

@2020hindsights

Because the are defending themselves from imperialism

People of Donbass are defending themselves from nazism.

Unfortunately for Russia, they don't have the forces to do it. They are pretty much spent. And now they are trying to recruit from far away territories that are poor

They have more than enough local volunteers, very eager to pay Ukraine back for all its crimes against the people of Donbass.

@Cricky

It’s not an attack on Russia just insurance

In 90s the deal was that Germany unites, the Warsaw pact disbands and NATO will not come to its territory. NATO broke the deal. Period. And after NATO aggressions against Iraq and Libya what idiot will believe its promises and other sweet words?

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

Posted in: Russia widens Ukraine war aims as gas pipeline restart tests nerves See in context

@Nemo

Um, because they are not murdering expansionist jerks?

NATO began expansion to the East in 90s, in complete violation of its promises. Now hundreds of NATO expansionist jerks (advisers, instructors and simple mercenaries from the Ukrainian Foreign Legion) are dead. More to come.

They don't use fuel shut offs and starvation as a weapon?

False claim. What fuel shut off, what starvation? All contracts on fuel and food are being fulfilled. All fuel and food shortages in the West are the result of its own politicians' stupidity and mismanagement.

They don't come up with idiotic conspiracies about Nazis?

Such idiotic conspiracies are MSM thing ("no Nazis in Ukraine, just some good rightist types"). Meanwhile the official state heroes of Ukraine are WWII Nazi collaborators, official greetings ("Heil to Ukraine") are the copy of Nazi Germany' greetings, Nazi emblems and other paraphernalia are widely used in the armed forces. And, most important, Ukrainian methods are purely Nazi, to begin with the mass burning of people in Odessa in 2014 and artillery shellings of cities in Donbass.

They don't intentionally target children

Ukrainians intentionally use civilians as human shields and civilian infrastructure as places to hide troops and military hardware, just like ISIS terrorists. Birds of feather.

They don't tie people's hands behind their backs and then shoot them in the knee caps before shooting them in the head and leaving their bodies in the street?

Staged incident in Bucha? A sudden discovery of bodies on the streets three days after Russian forces left the area? Don't worry, after the war a war crimes trial will deal with it, and Ukrainian officials who did that would be brought to justice.

Ukraine will pay the price for all its crimes since it unleashed its army on Donbass in 2014, for all people it killed there.

The Russians are getting desperate for manpower

The Russians forces there are only a part of all the Russian Army, they are all contractors and volunteers, plus about 80-100 thousand ex-Ukrainians (people from ex-Ukrainian regions like Donbass and Lugansk). Meanwhile Ukroforces had several waves of forced mobilizations, draft men are hunting for conscripts at streets (very popular subject in Ukrainian social media), men from 18 to 50 are banned by law to leave the country (this ban is easily ignored with the help of corrupt border officials), they are drafting women now. So, who is desperate for manpower?

@ok1517T

How about the Wagner group? How about the Chechens, how about those released from prison in Russia

And what about Wagner? It's a private security company. Its members are not criminals released from prison, unlike Tornado battalion thugs. If you want to talk about private security companies, talk about Blackwater / Academi and other Western groups first.

And what about Chechens? They are an ethnic group, one of many in Russia. Being a part of a specific ethic group is not a crime, right? Forming army units from convicts, junkies and street thugs is a Ukrainian thing. No wonder they are hated so much at Donbas and locals fighting alongside the Russians to kick out this trash from their land.

@stormcrow

Even if Russia conquers all of Ukraine, it will always be hated and despised by the people who live there

So far Ukraine is thoroughly hated and despised by the people of Donetsk and Lugansk regions who call the Ukrainian army, not Russian, invaders. @UChosePoorly

What are you predicting will happen to Ukraine

As a state Ukraine is a dead man walking. Even before the war it was economically not viable, it spend much more than it earned. Now it just lives on Western loans and handouts, and it will not long forever. Socially it also almost dead, too many Ukrainians are eager to say buybye to it. A lot of Ukrainians want to reunite with Russia, a lot of Ukrainians want to emigrate to EU. I think most part of the Ukrainian territory will reunite with Russia, may be some regions will be absorbed by Poland (that is the country eager to remake its past glorious empire), a small part will be integrated in Hungary (there is a Hungarian minority that does not care about the Ukrainian state).

So, to summarize, Russia has turned a rich land into a lunar *****, earned generational bitter hatred of the Ukrainian people

Ukraine has turned a part of itself into a lunar *****, earned generational bitter hatred of the people of Donbass who will never return to Ukraine (if it keeps to exist in the fiture, what is very unlikely).

@starpunk

And wait when the autumn and winter comes, and those sanctions will really kick Russia *where it counts!*** Just watch. **

I've waited for this kicking from 2014. So far a major disappontment. By the way, how are gas prices in US and EU? How is the inflation? Still think you are winning the sanctions war? Well, then just keep doing what are doing now. You are for a crude shock when the autumn and winter come. Just watch.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Posted in: Russia says its forces fully control Luhansk region in Ukraine See in context

@UChosePoorly

interesting, so you think that Ukraine is not going to try and get its territory back?

No, they woud not. First, they do no have the resources, their best and most experienced units are decimated. They still have a lot of freshly mobilized cannon fodder, but lack hardware. In the Lysychansk pocket they lost up to seven hundred AFVs, MLRS, guns etc. No replacement for that, no NATO transfers will help much.

Second, the regime actually does not want to reconquer Donbass, they know that the locals just hate them and wait for the Russians. That's why Ukroforces fire at Donbass cities with such abandon - they know it is not their land, not their people.

I think that instead of attempts to reconquer Donbass the regime will concentrate on holding the ground where it can. Local counterattacks are possible, but nothing like the surprise counteroffensive at Ardennes in 1944.
