Posted in: Doubts growing in Japan over Tokyo Olympics See in context

I’m looking forward to the crap show called Tokyo 2020 being cancelled. I mean our taxes pay for it but it’s only ever going to benefit Tokyo.

Protect the economy? Does that include paying me for the next two weeks of work that I’m now not getting paid for because of this ridiculous school closure?

Posted in: Gov't to use family name first in Roman alphabet in documents See in context

OK, for all the people here complaining, I just checked my immigration card, my drivers license, and my credit cards and they all have my last name first. I also checked my American drivers license, my birth certificate, and my passport and they have my family name first. Even my Air Force id from 25 years ago has family name first. Only my diploma has my first name first. I really don’t understand what the big deal is anyway. If you want to sign your name first name first go for it. If you do it enough times and they keep telling you “no” eventually they’ll stop telling you “no”. Just like how they don’t like people to check boxes here you have to put an X. I just keep putting a check in they tell me I can’t do that but I put a check anyway and eventually they stop telling me “no”.

Here’s an idea, if you don’t want people eating on the street don’t sell food on the street. It’s just like how they sell alcohol in the convenient stores at train stations but when you drink a beer at a train people stare at you like you’re a leper. Also why did they sell cigarettes in the convenient stores stations? There’s always some random idiot smoking a cigarette in the station when you’re not supposed to be smoking a cigarette in the station.

Posted in: Osaka train driver apologizes to Japanese passengers for ‘having many foreigners’ on board See in context

About 14 years ago made and laminated a little A4 size sign in Japanese that said “Scary foreigner sitting here. Be careful” with an arrow pointing to me that I would put on the seat when I was sitting on a crowded train and no one would sit next to me. It got stares and sometimes giggles but I think it got the point across. I still ride the same line and no doubt some of the current riders are the same people from 14 years ago but people always sit next to me now.

Posted in: Japan's draconian marijuana laws against ongoing trends See in context

Marijuana use is forbidden in Japan. As an employee at a major English publishing company, one that owns the rights to use Disney characters in its DVD, CD, and book products, it is interesting that my former manager KS and assistant manager JS both of whom are still employed by the company used marijuana during work hours. These people are responsible for ensuring the safety of children but they are using an illegal substance. It is unforgivable!

Trump doesn’t deserve crap! All he did was say it wasn’t possible to have peace and insult the leader of North Korea. If anyone deserves it, it’s Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae In. In fact, they should make a special nobel peace medal shaped like the yin and yang and give each of them half to wear around their necks. Then when they meet, they can join the pieces. Now that would be a PR coup.

It’s definitely a step in the right direction. I just wish that they would put smoke detectors in the bathrooms in stations. It seems, at least at Ikoma station, once they removed the smoking area from the Chuo line side, people just started smoking in the bathrooms.

I’m pretty confused. So Nakamura is a colleague of the guy in Kyoto’s daughter. Nakamura and Ikai drove from Shiga to Kyoto together to confront the guy in Kyoto. Nakamura ended up wounding the guy in Kyoto and killing the guy who he drove to Kyoto with. WTF!

A friend of mine who works as a hostess (that’s what she calls it), said that she and a lot of her coworkers wear masks year round so they won’t be recognized in public. The money was too good to have anything popping up that could force them to quit.

Posted in: NHK tags house of man who refuses to pay fees See in context

I successfully canceled after my wife signed a contract. My wife was tired of the guy ring the doorbell so she answered it and she signed up. Later that evening after I found out what happened. I called the collector whose name was on the contract but they wouldn't answer. I then called NHK and explained the situation that I don't have a TV and that I have a cell phone that uses one SEG but that I had just changed to an iPhone which does not have that feature. It was very lengthy, I had to go to the head office of my prefecture and spend about an hour talking to the guy who took notes and typed up a statement which he asked me to sign but I didn't sign. I haven't heard from them since then.

It just shows how much money is wasted in this country on useless things. The city where I live apparently paid some famous singer (who is already rich) to draw the cover of the kids immunization books here, because he was from here and they wanted to associate with his fame, but the cover looks like garbage! My 3 year old son could have done it better. They could have done a contest to see who drew the best picture then used the money as a prize toward that kids schooling.

Or could it be that seafood is ridiculously expensive in Japan and all this fake Chinese meat that is labeled American, Australian, and even Japanese is just more affordable?

" Akemi Mokoto at Feb. 27, 2015 - 07:12AM JST Being known as a city that censors speech isn't something to be proud of. Osaka is the worst city in Japan already, don't make it worse."

Osaka the worst city in Japan? That is your opinion but the facts show that Tokyo gets that distinction. Tokyo takes money from everyone in Japan via taxes and their designation as capital to waste it on numerous unneeded projects, hosting the Olympics which no one outside Tokyo gives a flipping f*** about, and more corruption than China as a whole probably. Go back to Tokyo and leave us alone. But I do agree that banning hate speech is foolish. After all, we do have to have something to do down here in Osaka.

Nuclear power is definitely ok. Just have to hope that the engineers who build the plants can make sure that they are ready for the next big earthquake or tsunami.
