Wonder why Japonica rice costs so much more per pound than other varieties, even in the U.S. Whether sold at supermarkets, warehouse clubs, Asian food stores, or military commissaries, it always seems to be so.

I guess this photo explains why they could do no better than 5th. It doesn't seem like too long ago that Japan was constantly battling the U.S. for gold. How times have changed.

Seeing Kano standing next to Borel before the match looked like David next to Goliath. An impressive win by the much smaller Kano against the higher ranked fencer who was competing on his home soil.

I'll say it again. Good teams usually beat great players. No issues with a Panther not winning the Hart. Seems apropos. Florida plays such a team-oriented system with depth up and down their line-up and doesn't rely on a single superstar. Have to tip my hat to the Oilers fans who reinforced my opinion of them as being knowledgeable, respectful, and classy unlike counterparts from the NE who come to Panthers games. There were no sour grapes from the thousands clad in orange and blue at the game tonight. All I heard from them was "congratulations" and offers of fist bumps when the Cats won the Cup. Much respect to them. Vamos Gatos!

Having grown up in Canada, I have nothing but love for the country and respect for Canadians. That said, for too long, Canada thought the Stanley Cup was its birthright. Despite decades of futility, proving this not to be so, many of their fans still act out and express a sense of entitlement. Edmonton can be explosive on offense and has a couple of great scorers/players in McDavid and Draisaitl. Florida is a very good, solid team that earned its way back to the finals with dogged determination, suffocating forechecking and hard, physical play. Expect this to be another series where the good team defeats the great player(s). Go Cats Go!

Posted in: Panthers beat Rangers 2-1 to win East title and reach Stanley Cup Final See in context
Panthers were clearly the better team. Surprising that the Rangers kept the scores close and even managed to steal two games. Florida's physical play, relentless forechecking and winning one-on-one battles along the boards wore down the Blueshirts, as they did the Bruins and Bolts before them. It'll be difficult for either the Stars or Oilers to have any more success against this dogged Panthers team. Still, it should be an entertaining finals for hockey fans.

Finally, an outcome that reflected the play on ice. Rangers are extremely fortunate to still be in this series. Anyone watching these games would think the Panthers should have swept them already (except Blueshirt fans, of course). Back to MSG where the Cats shut out the Rangers 3-0 in game 1.

Posted in: Bobrovsky shuts out Rangers as Panthers take game one See in context
Cats continue to have success with their proven formula of smothering forechecking, relentless backchecking and Bob covering for overextended defensemen. Rangers' formula for previous success on the powerplay being neutralized by Florida's disciplined play. Still, it was a one-goal game for much of the night. New York will come out with a vengeance in game 2 but for the time being, the Panthers have stolen home ice advantage.

This gentleman's sweep left no doubt that there's a new Sherrif in the state of Florida. Panthers' forechecking was relentless. Just watching it was stifling. Bob made key saves at critical junctions of the game. Vasilevskiy played great but he's no longer the brick wall that he used to be. Bolts' Captain played his heart out, but the Cats blanketed him all night and limited Stamkos to a single shot. Can't see either the B's or Leafs beating these guys.

They're just in a foul mood because the Leafs are about to get eliminated by the Bruins so they're taking out their frustrations on Ohtani. It's amazing how rude and boorish Torontonians have become. They were so civil and polite back in the '60's when we lived there.

Would've preferred Zito shoring up Florida's blue line with a playoff-experienced defensive defenseman but can't question the value of getting Tarasenko for almost nothing. Cats are doing a lot of winning without scoring a whole lot of goals so this trade makes a lot of sense.
