Can the Olympics take place without the US?

The summer games took place without the US in 1980.

How many people that are positive are actually going to input that they are positive? When they don't, the app is useless. So then we have thousands of people walking around with no "hits" but it's just more skewed numbers.

Posted in: 650 new coronavirus cases reported in Japan; 290 in Tokyo See in context

A million people a year die in Japan, if not more.

People are gonna die, so let's let 'em die even if we can prevent it. Right? Idiocy at it's most selfish finest. People like you only worry about yourself. The whole point is that if proper steps are taken, people do not have to die needlessly, whether it is 10 people or 10,000.

This soldiers not only in Japan but S. Korea as well, have been seeing out partying, having a good time, not wearing mask, drunk and loud on the beach. Your just giving a pass to bad behavior.

You saw them? or you're just going off of "reports?" A few of them are bad, so they are all bad, right? No Japanese were at that beach an partying, right?

You would think that all that exists in Japan is Shinjuku. It's literally all they ever report.

Regardless of how many military members or their families have COVID, Okinawans want them gone. (Is this on topic enough moderator?)

Then once we are gone and China swoops in, they will say the US abandoned them.

If you think hostess club = prostitution, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

Personally I think they should shut Kabuki-cho down.

I think most people here think all hostess bars are these sexual dens of iniquity, dirty and sleazy, when that's not really the case across the board. Surely there are places like that but some are high class, some are middle, some low. And most don't offer sexual services. And most don't have hostesses living in little rooms (living there at all).

That said, having a hostess sit next to one guy and drink for 50 minutes, then sit with the next customer for 50 minutes, on and on thru the nite isn't good for anyone.

Posted in: Tokyo coronavirus cases hit record daily high of 224; 80% in their 20s, 30s See in context

Judging by the number of deaths and the amount of serious cases, 200+ new cases in a city were 40 million people converge, it isn't that bad, stop the fearmongering.

This silliness is part of the problem.

200 plus people out of how many tested?

Not 40 million, bud.

I love all the comments each day from the same people saying "well no one's dying, stop trying to scare us", but God forbid you or your family member get it. You'll sing a different tune.

90% of the foreigners here don't wear a mask.

An awful lot of Japanese don't wear them either...

Wouldn't it be easier if you could take your residency card to the City Hall money window and pick up your cash?

They said they aren't doing that so that they stay within social distancing guidelines.

Posted in: Q&A: How do I receive ¥100,000 from the government? See in context

Of course not. Why would non-resident (in the USA) American citizens receive $1,200 from Uncle Sam while living here in Japan?

But American citizens living abroad do get the $1200. I have.

SOFA status people technically have NO visa status in Japan. SO it wouldnt matter to them anyway, and to get the 1200 US you would have had to file a tax return for last year, so those here in Japan from the US who did file one could be eligible for both!

Simply not true. You don't need to have filed in 2018 or 2019 to get the US $1200. They have a website for non-filers to enter info and get the payment too, which is what I did.

You are correct though, in that someone could get both payments. I will get the US and Japan payments.

Amazing how medical centers don't have enough masks, but these idiots like K-1 and pro wrestling are holding events and giving out masks to attendees. If you have thousands of masks to give out, give them to the medical community.
