Posted in: Trump wins White House; Clinton concedes defeat See in context

This was such a surprise, but I think a co-worker of mine predicted it a few months back. He commented that he believed there were a lot more people than you would expect who supported Trump but would not admit it out off fear of being ridiculed or of what others' would think.

I am "hopeful" that his behavior and comments will be different when he is in office than on the campaign trail, and that he will surround himself with good people. Putting political views aside, it is exciting to have someone elected who is not a career politician.

Posted in: AKB48 to hold concerts at Universal Studios Japan every day starting in July See in context

I went one time, and have never seen so many people at an amusement park. I can't imagine why they need to spend the money for AKB's to squeeze even more people in the park.

More so than any other movie series, I just absolutely love the Jason Bourne movies. Cannot wait to see this in theaters!

That's a pity, I have owned an number of different brands (including Ford, Honda, and GM). I really think Ford had done great in designing their new models in the last 5 to 7 years or so. And they had put a lot of technology in the cars and made it easy to use.

Posted in: Netflix expands into 130 more countries in surprise move See in context

@shonanbb - My opinion is I do not enjoy the content nearly as much as I used to when I first signed-up. Just my opinion, others my like the content. But if you have never had it, I would give it a try. To my knowledge, there is no commitment with the subscription and it is easy to cancel at a later date if you don't like it.

Posted in: Netflix expands into 130 more countries in surprise move See in context

The idea of Netflix is great. It works great and the world desperately needs global distribution of television content (IMO). But I really hope they use the $5 billion to improve their content. I enjoyed it for about a year, watching shows like Breaking Bad, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. But now, I find it hard to find anything useful to watch. It seems like 8 times out of 10, when I look up a movie that I want to watch, they don't have it.

It's funny that the article mentions New Year's resolutions because I was just joking with a friend that one of my NY resolutions is to cancel my Netflix subscription.

Posted in: Only 11% of Japanese people willing to fight for their country: Gallup survey See in context

What do you expect, this is a natural reaction when Japan has not had its own military in 70 years. I would assume that young people in Japan have no expectation of having to go to war. I grew up in the shadows of the Vietnam war and always thought there was a chance I would be drafted into a war someday.

Posted in: Company president arrested for fatal abuse of employee See in context

I can't believe it...there is actually president of a Japanese company who is female.

Seriously, unless her name is Ronda Rousey, I don't believe she could have done this without the help of her son. Why in the world would they be in a station wagon together, with her son nonetheless.

Seeing Kishida-san makes me think how awkward I feel when I bow and say yoroshiku onegaishimasu in meetings here in Japan. It will never be completely natural, for either of us.

What would have been very sustainable is renovating the existing stadium rather the raising and putting a new stadium in the exact same spot.

Well, if Japan plays like they did in the last World Cup, they will only be playing in the first round, after which they can return back to Japan and the J. League can resume.

What about making eye contact on the train? That seems to make many people very uncomfortable, could that be a violation of the Anti-Nuisance Ordinance?

Posted in: Is smoking pot harmless? See in context

I had a good friend from grade school and a nephew, both had very promising futures playing football including getting offers to play at big college football programs. Both started smoking pot in high school, neither one ever played a single down in college and one dropped out of high school. So YES, from what I have seen it can ruin lives.

That battle was a complete a complete disaster. Died: Allied soldiers 14k, mainland soldiers 80k, and civilians 150k. The impact on civilians was completely senseless. Japan should have surrendered after that.

I explained bit coins a few weeks ago to a friend using an anology of baseball cards in that there in nothing of value backing them. Turns out I was wrong, baseball cards are a better investment. Who really invested in bit coins, besides the money launderers?

The Original Wing, "This isn't an American TV show." ...huh? What is that supposed to mean?"

American TV shows are predictable, when something happens the reaction/resolution is predictable. All of the viewers can comprehend why and how the characters react to various situations. In real life it is much more complicated, we cannot assume the reaction reflects the victims feelings or state of mind.

Posted in: U.S. regulator sues 13 banks in Libor rate-fixing case See in context

Wipeout - the best part of that article is the quote "If cities and towns and other investors lost money because of Libor manipulation, that was their own fault for ever thinking the banks were competing in the first place." Everybody knew that these rates were self-reported. Should they have misreported, absolutely not. But to call this the "height of criminality" is a huge overstatement. That is like a teacher asking the students to grade their own tests and then acting shocked to learn that some students fudged their own grades.

Posted in: KISS to tour Japan as part of their 40th anniversary tour See in context

I never liked KISS. I always thought there were other much more talented bands out there. They put on makeup to make themselves unique, then when interest began to fade in the 80's they took the makeup off to make a comeback, then once again at a later date as part of some other reunion or comeback, they put makeup back on. As an outside observer, It seems their career is defined by putting on and taking off makeup. I never got it.
