It means Ishiba will have to wait one year longer. Sugar will serve only the remaining term of Abe before being kicked out in a larger leadership vote in October 2021.

Whoever wins the next election will only serve out the remaining term of Abe. He ( and it is most likely he) will be booted out at the end of Abe's term for a new leader.

Ishiba Shigeru San is the best among the lot but I am afraid he won't win because the LDP Diet members don't like him. I am OK with whoever emerges winner so long as it is not Aso. The next PM will be gone before the end of 2021 back to the revolving door.

Ulcerative colitis or not, Japan deserves a new PM. Abe has spent all his political capital, there's none left. He needs to step down and resign from the Diet so he can have a good rest.

Posted in: Who is next after Abe? Potential successors See in context

Please NOT Aso, please. Anyone but Aso. I think Ishiba is the best choice but he lacks support among LDP kingmakers. Ishiba is the mist popular candidate among the public and among grassroots LDP chapters around the country but LDP lawmakers hate him.

This guy has been poisoned many times in the past but he survived each one. He will survive this one too. Putin is the devil incarnate. The latest in the story is he has been airlifted to a specialist hospital in Western Europe.

Why wasn't this man a person of interest to the investigation team and was allowed to leave Thailand without questioning beats my understanding. It' s been 13 years and he is still walking free and refused to cooperate. Japanese authorities should look for him. It is a Japanese national who was murdered albeit on a foreign land.
