I'm in agreement with everyone else who is disappointed at this massive spoiler. I've been intentionally avoiding overseas websites that publish the results of AI. Bad form!

Insufficient nursing staff in hospitals and care facilities can also mean that nurses work horrendous shifts. Changing adult diapers aside, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to have to deal with violent or otherwise troublesome patients on top of sleep deprivation. I'm sure even the saintliest of nurses have a tipping point. There's obviously a lot more to this story than meets the eye.

@cleo - No idea why you got all the thumbs down. I'm a firm believer that it is the responsibility of dog owners to train them to behave as best they can. If people haven't got the time or the inclination to do that, they shouldn't have a dog.

@Devil It's not so much the 'tradition' aspect (which would appear in this case to be limited to a very small area) as the fact that none of the posters are surprised that a big, captive bull got one over on its puny owner. Not quite a Darwin Award, but perhaps in the same league as a circus performer who puts his head in the jaws of a lion.

"...and are only told of their impending death a few hours ahead of time."

Sure, but the fact they are on death row should be a bit of a hint that the gallows are beckoning. And as @sensei258 points out, murder victims generally aren't expecting to have their lives taken from them.

As for rival gangsters, well, it could be argued that they buy into that kind of life style, but we can't be shooting people willy nilly in restaurants.

That's a mean chuck of metal. WIth all the bloody traffic lights in Japan, though, the driver of this Roller will be stop-starting at the same pace as all the Suzuki Alto drivers, while consuming gallons more high-oc.

As @borax and a couple of others pointed out, despite being decked out in body armour with 'forked spears', the police looked pretty hopeless. Don't they have tazers here? A quick zap to the gnads would've subdued the knife-yielding, girlfriend-threatening, amphetamine-fuelled, young car thief yankee.

@Wakarimasen A few hundred yen isn't going to spoil my evening, but it's a waste of food and money if the takowasabi, or whatever is plonked in front of me, isn't eaten. The izakayas don't care if you then spend a few thousand yen on the rest of your evening.

Posted in: Panel recommends 'moral education' to counter school bullying, corporal punishment See in context

@ebisen You've hit the nail on the head.

Bullying is an issue in all walks of life in all countries, but it is exacerbated (institutionalised) in schools and companies as it is viewed as a form of training or discipline. I've heard bullying within companies referred to as 指導shidou, which basically translates as 'coaching'. I've witnessed bullying at work first hand and the emotional distress that it has caused could certainly not be described as such.

...minimize the danger of similar incidents being overlooked in the future.

Surely 'overlooked' in this sentence should be replaced with 'ignored'.

“As a result of these practices, BTMU processed at least 97 funds transfers, with an aggregate value of approximately $5,898,943, through BTMU’s New York branch or other banks in the United States.”

If you want to do business in any country, you have to respect the laws of the land. There's no bullying involved here. I'd say that 'at least 97 funds transfers' was pretty good evidence of a flagrant disregard for US laws by the bank and possibly only the tip of the iceberg. Many financial institutions may consider a fine such as this as a cost of doing business abroad, but I would certainly disagree if I were a shareholder.

The old fella should channel his enthusiasm into drumming up support among old folks for a younger candidate who has a far better chance of winning. The older generations are, after all, the ones who get off their arses to vote, unlike the hoards of apathetic youngsters who should care more.

Most kids walking alone would get nervous if a stranger walked up to them, however innocent the stranger's intentions may be. Despite the shock that many have expressed at the guy being reported, I wouldn't approach an elementary school age kid in a quiet street to ask them anything. It was very naive of the guy to do this and the child was right to report the incident.

I mean seriously, noodles I can understand - but I've seen old guys slurping sandwiches!

Yup. I've been here a long time and still marvel at the noise people can make when they eat things that you wouldn't normally expect to hear noise from. I'm told that making noise makes the food taste better... .

The subject of the article seems bizarre to me as the majority of men, and many women, make as much noise as the average farm animal here when they eat. The speed can also be staggering. My father in law generally has a toothpick in hand long before I'm done with the starter. -BURP-. On a positive note, though, at least the rapid turnover at restaurants means that waiting time is limited.
