The last time I checked the Korean flag is (literally) waving over Dokdo not the Japanese flag.

If you don't like it do something about it - otherwise stop complaining and move on.

We all know that he wouldn't dare to militarily provoke the Chinese without the blessing of the Americans. The last thing that the Americans want is a military conflict / instability between her two largest trading partners and bond purchasers.

Abe is just trying to build up his bona fides with the nationalists.

Abe government should focus on cleaning up Fukushima and build up Japan's soft power.

Military and arms build up between Japan and China will not bode well for the NE Asian region. The rhetoric and paranoia between the two countries is a bit much. I fear a small incident between and China and Japan might cause the tinder box to be lit thus causing an uncontrollable situation in NE Asian.

Posted in: U.S. denies drone strikes break international law See in context

As an American I am very torn on this issue.

Yes I do believe that the US is breaking international law by using drones.

BUT I rather the gov't use drones to target the bad guys instead having American boots on the ground.

The US Military is an extremely blunt weapon. American boots on ground could lead to higher unintended civilian deaths as compared to the deployment of drones.

Export weapons to maintain global security?

I wonder who came up with that turd of propagandistic logic.

I would have more respect for the Japanese gov't if they just came out and told the truth -- JAPAN WANTS TO REDUCE THE RECORD HIGH EXPORT DEFICIT BY SELL WEAPONS.

Posted in: Abe likely to visit Yasukuni Shrine by end of year, aide says See in context

Abe has every right to visit and pay homage to Yasukuni shrine.

BUT why doesn't Abe visit the shrine in a private capacity, instead of making the visit a political topic?

The Abe administration has publicly stated that they want to a dialog with China and ROK - this public/political declaration by a Abe insider isn't helping mend ties.

Posted in: Another cabinet minister visits Yasukuni Shrine See in context

Japanese politicians should have to freedom to visit Yasukuni shrine to homage to the war dead including to the war criminals.

Chinese and Koreans should have the freedom to boycott Japanese products or visiting Japan.

BTW shares of Japanese businesses in China and Korea are PLUNGING. Korea TOYOTA sales are absolutely dismal. While many Japanese firms are considering pulling out of China (2nd largest economy) all together.

All and all -- NOBODY WINS.

Posted in: Japan-China dispute clouds APEC focus on trade See in context

With the absence of Obama, Abe, the leader of a major democratic and economic power, should of seized the opportunity to take the leadership role in promoting trade in the Asian Pacific region. Instead he focused on his gripe with China.

Many APEC Countries like Mexico, Chile, and Peru don't care about Senkaku Isle dispute.

With the absence of Obama, major US papers are such as the New York Times and USA Today are mentioning China and Xi as taking center stage at the APEC SUMMIT with absolutely no mention of Abe or Japan.

What a d a m n shame!

In all fairness to Pres Park, she was only responding to Chuck Hagel's statement of wishing a strong bond between Japan and SK. Pres Park was just expressing her perspective on the reasons for the deteriorating relationship.

BTW, Hagel and the Obama administration is well aware of the causes and reasons for the drift between Japan and S Korea.
