金 for Olympic medals...

Reading the headline I thought it would rather be for お金がない (many people and many businesses) or お金もったいない (olympics)

The joker wore an orangish red suit. This is purple. Maybe Yoshikage Kira?

@FizzBit got downvoted to -22 for that, but they seem actually right. From the pictures circulating on Twitter the costume is more accurately matching Yoshikage Kira (down to the necktie patterns).

My japanese wife and I kept separate names, so it's not like it's legally or technically impossible to do so.

Posted in: As teams pull out of training camps, Olympics buzz fades See in context

50-70 or so people in a training camp are supposed to provide a huge economic boost ? Out of pandemic times they would likely buy stuff at the conbini, go to some restaurants and buy souvenirs, but I doubt it would be such a boost to the towns, especially if you consider the cost involved in preparing everything for them.

The winners here are the companies that were paid to upgrade equipment. 70 million yens on bars, mats and other upgrades (which must be more minor, otherwise they would be listed first). Seems like the town was massively overcharged.

"We need to come up with a way to coexist," he said. "That's what I mean with being flexible with working hours and shifts and so on. We are consulting about that."

Flexible, huh ? That just means "we are planning to ask nurses to work 15 hours a day, doing both their normal shift and also an olympic shift"

Posted in: Kyoto sightseeing livestream for Chinese viewers becomes controversial; sparks ire in locals See in context

Sure Kyoto had a bit too many tourists, but something tells me these angry netizens aren't the ones whose livelihoods depend on tourism either. There's a lot of small shops aged owners who need that tourism money to live

What's up with all these crossbow related cases in Japan ? Is it that easy to get one ? You would almost think they sell those at don quijote.

@Disillusioned , @Aly Rustom

Actually it's not that obvious. We often get the "I just wanted to kill a random person" type too.
