I wonder how much of that was actually sick days when people were forced to use paid leave as if they were having a great time away from work....

Let's hope not. Forced socialising with people you're forced to deal with every day is not my idea of fun. People should be allowed to spend their time with people they like in places they want to visit.

Posted in: Outpatient clinics overstretched by rapid spread of Omicron See in context
From experience we've learned that doctors won't test children unless they have severe symptoms or they're known to have spent time with someone who has tested positive. Doctors won't test adults unless a close contact has tested positive. Pharmacies have few to no tests available, and won't give you them if you have ANY symptoms. Instead, they tell you to go to a doctor, who, as I said above, won't test you unless a close contact has tested positive.
Without a positive test we have to go to work. We can't rest at home because then we waste our annual leave. If we test positive we don't use our annual leave.
