What a tragic situation. Let's hope the weather gods send rain.

Well this could be interpreted as a godly sign of anger with the oil sands industry. But I too hope the civilians are safe.

a tight labor market and ever-shrinking work force

Oh really, tell that to the Japanese who work several part-time jobs overtime to make a living, or those who never had the chance for higher education to qualify them for highly-skilled jobs. This talk about the shrinking workforce is just to gloss over the fact that they want to avoid raising the wages and rather import cheap labor from abroad.

The US has been involved in Syria from the start, not with troops but supporting several sides of the conflict. But in all fairness, so have Saudi-Arabia, Turkey, Russia etc.

A family of three and two men have been resettled there in the past 15 months.

Oh wow, are they sure they are not overdoing it? I mean considering the American involvement in almost any war, that is a laughable achievement. I do agree that we shouldn't ship the refugees to far off places, but why did Germany have to take in so many then?

A sampling frequency of 192 kHz has no value for the music listener. In fact this extreme resolution may lead to distortions and make the sound worse. 96 kHz is the maximum useful resolution, while 48 kHz captures all the audible sound just as well at a fraction of the storage space.

Posted in: Japan's porn industry preys on young women, say rights advocates See in context

The biggest problem I see is not the few girls who do this job voluntarily, but the ones being "forced" into this occupation because they cannot get a regular job that will earn them a living. There are plenty of young women (and men) with no money or time for a university degree who barely survive on part-time jobs in this country. If the girls are looking for fame or luxury, that job is a risk they decide to take, but when it's a matter of necessity we are talking about modern slavery.

I've met men and women who love their partner's mad jealously or even outright bans on friends of the opposite sex.

Believe me, extreme jealousy is not love, it's more akin to an addiction. These people need professional help.

“This law created two classes of Canadians,” Immigration Minister John McCallum told a press conference. “We believe very strongly that there should be only one class of Canadians, that all Canadians are equal, that a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian.”

If all Canadians are supposed to be equal, they should all be allowed only one passport.

Why all the outrage directed at Japan? You don’t have to look very far to find antiquated nudity laws in your own country, which get strictly persecuted despite other much worse crimes taking place. Take for example the R-Rating which is applied to anything slightly erotic, while violence is deemed OK for children older than 13.
