Sounds like a job for international peace-maker / charisma man: Barack Obama!

Bout time he started earning some Nobel dollar-dollar bills.

That's why it's considered "Child Endangerment" to leave kids unsupervised, even in your own home.

Posted in: Obama says he'll accept Nobel Peace Prize as 'call to action' See in context

"Call to action" maybe he'll actually DO something now. I understand Nobel encouraging this kind of internationalisation and engagement, but Obama really hasn't achieved anything yet, just lots of talk and very little substance. By talk I mean speeches, there has been very little engagement on the ground with Iran, Israel-Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea and so on.

But is it really the responsibilty of the government to protect citizens from its potential dangers? YES!

If it is, why alcohol and tobacco are allowed? Because all societies need some legal ways for people to unwind.

You seem to think some of us are anti-drugs/pro-booze and smokes. You are wrong, I am pro-following the law and anti-breaking the law. Hence I think this future scumbag should be strung up.

nandakandamanda- You should write crime stories!

People you can't pick and choose which law you want to follow. Next you'll be excusing drink-driving as a human right, child porn as not that serious, etc. Drugs are banned because they are detrimental to your health and society.

Poor guy, the son and the old lady have obviously set him up as revenge for something.

criminalizing it is a violation of human rights----ha ha, right up there with being tortured and not allowed to practice your religion. Sounds like you have been enjoying a bit too much of your fav plant.

Damien15- obey the laws of the country, or expect consequences.

Drugs are illegal in Japan now. It's that simple.

yelnats- this is Japan, what happens in the US and A is irrelevant.

Did they frisk the kid? How the hell should we know!

Not being sarcastic, this little toerag is danger to himself and his fellow students. He needs to be punished severely for this. He broke the law- do the crime, do the time.

Agree with all of you, but this is great because it will make the Japanese have delusions of greatness, so when they get beaten again we can all enjoy their parade being rained on. Can't wait!

kolehe - Japanese learn everything from a textbook- driving, English and all the rest. Hence they have very little practical (what we would call) commonsense.

Poor little girl.

Posted in: Japan to go ahead with World Cup bids for 2018 or 2022 See in context

What a waste of time and money! "World Cup" means the world gets to share it. What about this doesn't Japan understand? Still has a few continents to pass through before it's Asia's time again- and when it does come back here I suspect China, Australia or somewhere other than Japan will get it (I hope!)

Surprised that they didn't mention that despite being such a small % of the US population, American Muslims have some very powerful positions.

I actually watched Rambo III the other day. "Dedicated to the brave men and women of Afghanistan." Sure it'll be digitally remastered soon to have Rambo fighting alongside the Soviets against the Afghans and we all know who John J will be fighting in part V.

If Japan wants the Olympics, there is a sure fire way to get them. Not Fukuoka, Osaka or Tokyo, put Hiroshima forward. As a city of peace, it would be unbeatable and it would be tough for any city in the world to out a more emotive case forward.

smithinjapan- I wanted Rio to win, as they and the people of Latin America deserve it.

Also, I am not an American. Bush or Obama- all the same for me and the people who cheer for any politician are idiots. I for one am glad Hatoyama and Obama's visits had seemingly no influence on the outcome.
