Strict gun control measures do not prevent mass shootings.

They do.

That's why you hear of this in Germany for the first time in years, while you hear about it in the US every few days.

"Russia, Syria, and Iran are killing, or on their way to killing, thousands" of civilians in jihadist-held Idlib, Trump tweeted, adding: "Don't do it!"

I'm sure that will stop them in their tracks ! What a show of strength !

Well, if Putin says it, you know it's trustworthy...

Why the quotation marks?

Because the article is quoting what Putin said. Hence the name : quotation marks.

Trump said his record “is so good" that “perhaps I would consider more than 3 debates."

Nowadays, the guy implodes immediately when asked simple questions by journalists... If asked to debate a tough subject he will collapse so quick he may turn into a black hole.

Also, what's happening with that last picture ? Is he melting or something ?

She said North Korea will respond with its own harsh language if Trump again uses similar phrases and shows that he is intentionally provoking North Korea.

In a thousand year, when historians study the correspondence of our leaders, they will wonder why we let 6 year old rule the world.

Anyway... It's sad to see these two break up, they were making a cute couple.

"And we're, you know, paying for your military essentially," Trump said Tuesday

Ok, even Trump supporter must admit that this is a totally ridiculous claim.

Everyone here saw articles about the Japanese government voting a higher budget for the SDF.

(Or, you know, buying F-35s. Meaning that the US is getting much more money from Japan than it is giving away.)

The U.S. Trade Representative's office said its "Section 301" investigation found that the French tax was "inconsistent with prevailing principles of international tax policy, and is unusually burdensome for affected U.S. companies", including Alphabet Inc's Google, Facebook Inc, Apple Inc and Amazon.com Inc.

From the country that spent the last 3 years imposing tariffs on billions of dollars of products from different countries. Bullies are always the ones that whine the loudest.

Anyway, France will not lose any market. It will just move to China.

Posted in: Young Japanese men say paying for dates is hardest part of life as a guy: survey See in context

Tell you what, I’ll hit the gym, then help her carry the heavy bags, then pay for dinner... and guess what, good things may come your way!

Or you may go home separately and never hear from her again after she got what she wanted from you. There are plenty of women using men like that (there have been a few articles on this site).

So when you use a significant amount of your tiny pay check on a date with a girl who never intended to see you again because it's expected of you, yes, it sucks.

The earth’s climate always has and always will change.

Posted in: Police question Kobe teachers over bullying of colleague See in context

The education board said the three men and a woman in their 30s and 40s, who have all admitted they bullied the teacher, forced him to eat spicy curry and daubed some of it on his face, while saying they believed they were on good terms with the victim and did not know he had been in distress.

So, these immature and irresponsible grown ups are supposed to be teaching and educating young children. Shame on them.

A lawyer for the accused teachers, however, said one of them is claiming to have had no involvement in forcing the male teacher to eat spicy curry, despite having admitted to physically and verbally aggressive behaviors toward him.

At least he's denying the least severe accusation...

U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed the number, but Trump has previously said the U.S. military presence in and around South Korea was "$5 billion worth of protection".

It seems the US military is ready to be made into a mercenary force.

From "This we'll defend", to "Here's our price".

Now he must receive psychiatric treatment or be kept away from society if incurable.

Posted in: Superheroes vs cinema? Debate continues over Scorsese remarks See in context

I get Scorsese's point, but why single out Marvel all of a sudden ?

The Marvel movies are a cultural phenomenon right now, but there has been movies like this before.

If he wants to talk about films that are "not cinema", there's plenty to chose, from Transformers to Saw, or 90% of comedies, horror, action or martial arts movies. "Movies were better before" is a myth. There has been terrible movies before, and there are great movies nowadays.

And you can enjoy both entertainment movies and serious ones, just like you can enjoy both classic music and heavy metal, or both 19th century literature and cartoons.

Just enjoy what you enjoy and be done with it !

Posted in: Post-meal waste at Japanese sushi restaurant sparks controversy online See in context

I worked in this kind of restaurant. These people are a minority. By far.

Doing sashimi option would be a new burden on the staff to accommodate less than 1% of the customers. I am not surprised few restaurant chains chose to do it. The clients pay for it, what they decide to do with the food is not the restaurant's problem.

If these people didn't want to waste rice, they could go to a sashimi place instead. If you come to a sushi place, we will assume you want to eat sushi. Restaurants can't accommodate everyone, and are not responsible for how people were educated.

"I viewed the situation on the Turkish border with Syria to be for the United States strategically brilliant," Trump said.

More delusion of grandeur...

Just calling something "brilliant" doesn't make it so. Just like putting deodorant on dog poop doesn't make it a cake.

Ok, granpa is off his meds again.
