Posted in: DOCOMO to expand special benefits for overseas visitors in Japan See in context

You can actually buy a SIM in Japan. No need for credit card. But for security reasons, it is not sold to those with tourist visa, and you have to show proof of residence. The provider is Docomo but , it's not sold at Docomo shops. It's sold at a special dealer in Yokohama.

The recent Van Cliburn international Piano competition's Top 4 finalists were all Asians. The top figure skaters were Kim Yona of S Korea and Asada of Japan. These competitions are judged almost subjectively by world class experts. Therefore, this news is something!

My component system is Onkyo. There's too much treble. I think Denon is better. My home theater is a Macbook, a Cheap Dvd player and a video tape player, attached to an Onkyo component and Sanyo projector. I think at that price I'd rather buy a Mac mini.

I thought at first something is wrong with my reception. It's annoying. But I also heard from a friend that the TV commentators in Australia are more annoying. Ban them too?

My neighbor, married couple with 2 children often fight even at midnight. I lived in many parts of Japan but I notice only Kansai people like to talk loud and shout. Likewise, not all gaijin come from the same place. So, what's the point of this articlE?

Posted in: Toyota hit with $16 mil fine over recalls in U.S. See in context

If I buy a car I won't buy a Toyota coz even if there are only 50 cases among million cars there's still a chance that I'd have chosen one of the 50 cars. (just as I believe that I'll win the lotto jackpot someday). That's why automakers have to be very strict about safety to gain consumer trust. And for those romantically involved with Toyota, I pray that none of your friends and relatives would be a victim someday... Coz that'll really change your opinion.

Posted in: Vatican denies celibacy requirement led to sex scandal See in context

Celibacy per se is not the cause of this scandal. The church's negative attitude towards homosexuals does. It seems that the best place for homosexual Catholics to "hide" is the priesthood where they gain acceptance and respect... those who are too weak to resist has easy access to their prey, the choir members and altar boys. Their are only few who are blessed with the gift of celebacy but the harvest is plenty and the laborers are few. Therefore, I agree with the abolition of celibacy.

Posted in: Managing gaijin teachers See in context

You don't sell genuine Louis Vuitton bags at 100yen shops, right? If I'm an owner, why would I pay more when I can employ any gaijin looking jobless man in Japan who's willing to work more with low pay? Some are satisfied with low salary if they love teaching. I think the owners' job is to give them better working condition and job security, then it's gonna be a win-win situation.

InTheKnow, I'd say NO!!!! Even too many katakana in the sentence is a pain in the brain how much more roman alphabet. The Vietnamese and Filipinos had no choice, I guess. As an educator I believe thi is the reason: "How did Japan’s once vaunted education system sink to this? The culprit most often cited is “yutori” education, a progressive easing of elementary and high school curricula beginning in 1998 in response to fears students were buckling under the strains of a hyper-competitive academic workload. Has this “easing” gone too far?" btw, that's a kopipe :-)
