I read a Washington post article that China knew about this virus in mid December but didn't tell anyone. they waited about a month and allowed millions of people from that area to freely travel. hhhmmm? I know its a hard call but with a one state system and no free press ... this is what happens in a communist country

sad, feel sorry for the victims

I think this was a big mistake, China is run by just one big communist machine. I am sure there are a lot of good Chinese poeple but I just cannot trust the government and top companies

it wasn't very long ago it seemed like most people were saying, Apple is a wounded beast, its all down hill from here!

This is a good way to silence them. LOL

Tohoku in general is pretty miserable. Bleak, awful weather and people with a reputation of being unwelcoming even by Japanese standards

You must be talking about the Japan sea side of Tohoku? The east coast has great weather, ok cold winters but much better than Hokkaido and without the horrible humid heat of Tokyo and further south. I have spent a decent amount of time in Tohoku and I found them very welcoming!

Posted in: North Korea says it won’t give Trump a summit for free See in context

Blows my mind that we've reached a stage in global affairs where NORTH KOREA seemingly rejects a visit from the president of the United States. Thanks, Trump!

Come on! No political system guarantees a perfect or even "good" leader. All systems have their flaws and I have an idea a democrate president might have made things even worse!? But thats conjecture. Who knows?

Bottomline is, without some kind of intervention (military) it was always going to be very hard to deal with a leader like Kim who only has one trump (no pun intended LOL) card. He won't give up his nuclear weapons, that's all he has!

Sure Trump makes one mistake after another, but this NK issue is one messy one and honestly, .... unless there is some kind of war ... it requires some kind of internal uprising. This is uncharted waters!

Great decision, its far too hot in Tokyo in mid summer for a marathon, what were they thinking?

I try to avoid Tokyo in summer

In this day and age, with holding freedom (like China does) is a time bomb, just look at history, time and time again this kind of thing has happened and sooner or later the people react

China calls itself a developed country, the number 2 economy but treats its people like little children. The net consoring (for example) is so childish

I just don't get this folding fad, sure new tech is interesting etc, I get that but so many drawbacks for little gain. Bottom line: a weak screen in this day and age is a very bad idea

Posted in: Defiant Koike confronts IOC over moving Olympic marathon See in context

The difference between Tokyo and Sapporo weather in summer is not so great, so Marathon should be in Tokyo.

you have never obviously spent a few days in both places in summer! and its not just the heat, the humidity is lower too!

Posted in: Defiant Koike confronts IOC over moving Olympic marathon See in context

Heck, Tokyo paid all that money through "various" channels just to get the Olympics, you'd think they'd at least have the Marathon run in Tokyo.

Money? wake up! Its not about MONEY!

AirPods way too expensive even by Apple standards

you make it sound like Apple sell the most expensive wireless earphones! fact is, they don't! Expensive? sure but there are more expensive ones

I, for one, am in no hurry for 5G, its coming, great but no rush. I am sure it will be more expensive and I am happy with 4G

Posted in: Apple launches iPhone 11 series in Japan See in context

The iPhone is an expensive item to upgrade every 1-2 years.

No! Not true in Japan, if you have already have a phone and use the 2 year contracts.

I have an iPhone and I went to my provider and asked about trading it in for a new iPhone 11. Found out I will be paying less than before, so ... I no brainer! (I am talking about a package with wife and home phone and internet)

It just doesn't make sense to keep the same phone on the same contract when I can get a new one and pay less (same 4G amount etc etc ... no changes to the contract at all, just swap phones)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Posted in: Why you don't need a 5G phone just yet See in context

so many people are tech junkies now, including me to some extent, but I can't help thinking we all buy into so much hype! Sure 5G might be great in the future but there seems to be this incredible push to have it yesterday.

I for one am quite happy with 4G and I certainly don't want to be paying more money! Lets take a deep breath ......

Posted in: Facing U.S. ban, Huawei emerging as stronger tech competitor See in context

China doesn't play with a level playing field, there is very little true competition in China, almost all foreign companies are banned or limited in what they can do, so good on Trump.

After all, no one else is big enough to challenge China
