That's great that Tokyo got the Olympics and all, but honestly: I hope there is a back-up plan for if/when stuff goes downhill in Fukushima.

Maybe Japan should care about its people and its safety before it worries about where to build billion-dollar infrastructures and showing up how great their country is when they're living their own citizens in the dust, or in this case "temporary" housing shelters that aren't turning out to be so "temporary".

Posted in: Itano's 'graduation' from AKB48 leaves only 3 original members See in context

Graduation is the term they use instead of thrown out because they are too old. I can't wait till I graduate from work.

This almost made me burst out laughing at work. I needed this, thanks!

Posted in: Teacher beats student over flippant comment; loses 10% of salary See in context

The teacher explained his actions by saying that when he heard the student’s comment, he simply forgot himself.

Wow, this dude obviously doesn't have the skin to deal with middle school students. I remember middle school, and the kids were awful, but that doesn't mean you slam them repeatedly against the wall....

The people who decided his punishment needs some cut from their pay for a decision like this.

I really want to see this... even better if they made a manga, IMO. I don't have time for TV anymore @_@

Posted in: 3 most unattractive women’s hairstyles (according to Japanese men) See in context

I just wanted to say how much I appreciated Usagito's comment:

The fact that the author of the article suggests you get a notepad ready to write down what you should not do with your hair doesn't have anything to do with "how you should look"? or the fact that one man in the survey told a woman to her face he disliked her hair cut? telling girls they basically look like creepy dolls or monsters in their hair style isn't a form of telling someone how they should look? Sure some hair styles turn people off but is there a reason to do a survey and write an article about it and cause the women who do have these hair styles to feel bad about themselves and possibly go out and try to get rid of the hair style they felt confident in before?

This article, while it is about a SURVEY that someone else did, and other's opinions, the beginning bascially says "Oppp, you better get ready to be judged by the patriarchy, ladies!"

Posted in: Japanese men reveal costumes they want their girlfriends to wear See in context

I'm so over this article and the hair one. Yes, I understand people have their fetishes, but where's the WOMEN'S opinions? Oh right, it doesn't matter: We just need the misogynistic view of how women shouldn't wear their hair, or what outfits turn men on.

It's like that Kraft commercial in the US: We can have MILLIONS of advertisements with half/fully naked women trying to sell everything from furniture to perfume, but the second they turn a man into a sexual object for some salad dressing OHHH NOOO, TOO FAR!!
