Posted in: British lawmakers approve gay marriage in historic vote See in context

I want to see the reactions of people for all the gay rights stuff. When there is a 50 year old man is taking a 14 year old boy or older boy as his bride, of course with parental consent. When this is condoned in the world as a right, well society as it has been known for a very long time will be completely gone.

Now Elton John can get married again in his jolly olde England. And instead of knighting him, the queen can make him queen for the day! Soon the world will look all the same, MacDonalds, Walmart, groceries, clothes and equal in having no morals.

This is gone way out of control. I hope and prayer that people in power dealing with this issue can see that a peaceful and sensible approach is require to resolve this, not the use of planes or boats. Some kind of meeting of the minds with the intentions of a reasonable solution.

noriyosan73FEB. 04, 2013 - 01:50AM JST When it comes to the Korean Conflict, most Americans think of the movie and TV series M.A.S.H.

Oh really? I do and so do a lot of Americans whose parents served during the Korean War.

Some Koren people want Japanese apology and money paid, still. This was all dealt with when Japan surrendered, the end of the story. Some people in the USA wanted a whole lot of things at the end of the civil war in America, they all didn't get what THEY wanted. You know what happened? They accepted it, acknowledge it and moved on with living life in the new United States of America.

hobart_markFEB. 03, 2013 - 10:47PM JST Stupid, sexist idea. but in Japan sex sells like no where else

You are referring to my recent post of the tattoo woman come back? The post was for a funny, regarding the subject being mentioned, Japan's economy.

A sexist idea, what if next to the tattoo woman was the tattoo man? Would that be okay with you?

No more be said???

I think there is more to be said. Increase employment in Japan and America, bring back the side shows of the past. the tattoo woman and put the advertising ads on her. Help stop the slippery slope of insolvency in both countries.

YubaruFEB. 03, 2013 - 10:06PM JST By the way, Yabaru. You wrote Japan wasn't at war in 1940. I think you should take another look at history.

I codified my answer by saying the women.

Meaning you made a mistake in your posting of history, yes?

Where is this all, "Heating up"? Here on Japan Today, maybe. I doubt very much that anyone out of range of this neighborhood, say 20 miles, knew anything about this plaque being displayed. There is information saying there are 900,000 Koreans in the area, I m sure they knew about, sure.

Were there comfort women? I think that history shows there were. Was it a bad thing that happened, yes. This all seems to be an attempt to keep the subject in the news and not something that hasn't been addresses in history already. What Japan teaches in it's school is questionable? Have you any idea what American schools now teach or better said, not teach in schools about history anymore?

By the way, Yabaru. You wrote Japan wasn't at war in 1940. I think you should take another look at history.

This has been going on for many years in Japan, just for some reason it is news worthy now? Has been going on in America just as long also, maybe a little longer. Getting rid of higher salary people and hiring lower salary people. You think this is something new, because of this article?

Adjusting or trying to adjust the yen for imports/exports is something every country does, not real big news. Remembering that I used to be able to do an exchange of dollars to yen for 130 - 140 yen for 1 dollar, not long ago and Japan was doing okay during these times. I think trying to adjust the yen for international trading is a reasonable effort to improve things.

When people buy famous labeled things, clothes, shoes, handbags, etc... they are advertising for the company that has the label showing. I think most people who buy labeled items like these are wanting people to see that they have a famous label on their item. So, lots of people are walking around advertising for free. Someone came up with the idea to charge companies for advertising space. Myself, for many years have had the thought that if I buy something with a name showing, the company should be paying me to display it.

Regarding put the ads on women thighs, well if you walk around Okinawa now days on a hot day. On Japanese women of all ages, are displayed some pretty questionable tattoos, my opinion, for everyone to see in places that bring la lot more attention. These tattoos are a form of advertising in one way or another.

When I was a kid, I used to go to local circuses to see the oddities that they had billed, ape man, hairy woman, etc..And there was always the tattoo woman. You paid maybe 25 cents to see her. In todays world I save 25 cents about everyday.

Posted in: Singapore rejects 'comfort woman' statue See in context

The culture ministry denied claims; “There are no ongoing meetings or discussions between the Singapore government and the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery on this issue. Nor will we allow such a statue to be erected in Singapore.”

In Seoul last week, the activists unveiled plans to put up the statues—in a number of Asian countries starting with Singapore.

My comment is the story has two claims that made it apparently news worthy, said above. Beginning and end of story. Someone, somewhere decided to stir the pot and got someone, somewhere to get into the news.

Crimes of wwII were dealt with after the war ended. Japan did things, Germany, Russia, France every country did something during the world wars. There were trails and punishments. The End.

Statistics of an economy are certainly vital to being informed and for making decisions in any government. To say that consumers will do this or that because of policy changes in the financial strategy of a government, i think is just for the most part silly.

In any country, I think the average working person pays little attention to the governments financial forecasting and policy changes. That the average working person's greater interest is in what their financial condition is and what they need this month or next month, purchase a car, refrigerator, washing machine etc.....

The financial condition Japan has been in for years has been addressed by many politicians and with little change to it. So, I think the average person will continue to make or not make purchases based on their own financial forecasting, paying little or even no attention to what policy changes are coming or not.

Posted in: Dangerous cycling in Tokyo set to incur fines See in context

Having lived in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, California, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and Okinawa. My experience has shown me that few people who ride bikes follow the rules/laws.

Japan has had it's styles of riding bikes for a long time, umbrellas used, people sitting on handle bars and standing on rear wheel spokes etc...You learn to live and adjust to your surrounding as with most things.

Reading about, seeing and talking with foreigners living in Japan has always included the thinking that Japan should do this or do that. To somehow conform to western society, bike riding, smoking, entrance to Japanese only establishments and the list goes on.

When an old Japanese woman is riding her bike and I m in her path somehow, I have come to know that the best thing to do is be cautious and tolerant. Just what I have done living in any other place. I m not expecting the old woman to change because I moved there. Hey, but that's my opinion.

I m just amazed at this comment. You live in Japan and it does not bother you that, you would most likely die if a war took place? This is not some internet game on an iphone, we're talking about.

If America gets involved in this using weapons. It will be a sad day for Americans. Hillary should be removed from all this as quickly as possible.

WilliB and other comments similar to it are on target, I think.

My comment would just to repeat what others have, he might have not said all this in the best way, so what. He said people have a right to stop from being made to live beyond what they would like, tubes and machines keeping them alive and they don't want it.

I personally do not want to keep living if I can not live on my own terms, health wise, financially all of it. Some people want to hold on no matter what, to their lives. The right to chose what you want to do with your life should be left to the person, living wills.

I will take what he says a step further, if a person is being kept alive with machines and has no communication abilities with his care takers, the government is paying for it. Well, turn off the machine and let the person die in peace.

So, there wasn't enough information to catch him after 50 burglaries and 4 prefectures? It took 50 more burglaries and 4 more prefectures to catch him. Just where is the story on the information that caused his arrested?

Over 100 properties and he gets caught, how? Can't even a hint be given in the story?

The US military personnel are having discipline problems all over the world where there are bases. These problems go on in America, regarding bases and personnel stationed on them. What makes the media in printed news is another story. Suppressed news reports by the military.

Other countries have military personnel problems as well as America, they are not making the news reports posted here on Japan Today. Companies have problems with personnel doing things to reflect badly on the company as well.

A soldier stationed in the state of Colorado going off the base and getting drunk and doing something against the law is upsetting to the locals of that area, it happens.

Any place with base problems is a concern of the locals living in the area. Japan has, like American communities with military bases, the rewards of local economic increases. And people who think the rewards don't equal the trouble with having a military base in their neighborhood..

To keep going on about how the US military does not have control or discipline of their personnel is pretty silly, I think. What other military, private company or any other organization has complete control over the actions of their personnel? None, impossible.

The seriousness of someone getting drunk and ringing door bells and than falling down drunk is a big story? Only for the Japan news media.

Posted in: Rare photo of A-bomb split cloud found in Hiroshima See in context

In general the postings here lack the cause of the bombs to be dropped. The bombing of Pearl Harbor, as someone posted about dropping the bombs on Japan, a act of terrorism, yes. Peal Harbor's attack gave America the reason to declare war on Japan. In the final days before the bombs were dropped, Japan was asked to surrender more than once. Japan refused to surrender before the bombs were dropped. The U.S had informed Japan, the destruction they would see, would be beyond anything they could imagine. Someone posted about how the bombings were suppose to reduce the dead from a land invasion of Japan, because Japan was determine not to stop the war, until everyone died fighting for Japan. Proven by how Japanese soldiers fought when the U.S invaded and captured on islands in the pacific. Was the bombings a terrible event, yes. Mass killings can not be called anything but terrible. This was war time and the entire series of events during that time have to be kept in mind, before casting terms about America being terrorists.
