You missed some good roles off your list, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Untouchables, Meet the Parents, plus a scorching Louis Cypher opposite Mickey Rourke in the unsurpassed 'Angel Heart'.

What about the lasses at baseball games dressed as beer.

Posted in: AirAsia Japan rebranded as Vanilla Air See in context

Not the first quirky name for a Japanese airline. 'Air Do' sounds like what my gran used to go to the salon for. And the genesis of 'Solaseed' is very quirky (complete the following in Japanese ... Do, Re, Me, Fa ...)

Also, in the world of finance a 'straightforward' deal is aka 'plain vanilla'. Heh.

Posted in: Name your best soccer team of all time. Would David Beckham be in it? See in context

Beckham doesn't even make the first XI in a Manchester United first XI, or even a Sir Alex Ferguson best XI. Good as he is (and I have always been a big fan of Beckham) Cristiano Ronaldo is a monster for the ride side of midfield!

Posted in: Zombie parade See in context

I saw these guys at the Crossing yesterday - they were funny.

Some of those rules for taking part, as shown on the webiste linked above, are very funny too:

Don't attack humans! Don't think you can get away with harassing girls as a zombie.

Hahaha, Come on, man, this IS Roppongi!

No photography! The Zombie Walk event will be documented by the official photographer. No one else without permission may take photos.

Did they have Zombie police trying to enforce this one? Seriously, what a ridiculous rule ...

DisillusionedMar. 28, 2013 - 10:21AM JST

What about the boyfriend? If he was aware she had left the children alone shouldn't he be charged as an accessory? (Accessory to murder, not fashion)

I had the same question. Is there any news on this?

Posted in: JAL may buy 20 Airbus A350 jets See in context

This would be a breakthrough for Airbus if it becomes a reality. Airbus had a deal with Skymark but Boeing has had a lock on the big two in Japan for the past 5 decades. A350 looks like it is going to be another troubled programme though ...

Posted in: Narita Airport cuts landing fees to increase competitiveness See in context

I think this article has confused two separate initiatives from Narita. Other sources report (i) landing fees for all international flights reduced by an average of 5.5% from April (I think this was announced last November and (ii) announced today, tonnage-based landing fees for new international services to be cut in half, starting in April, with the discount to last until March 2016.

Posted in: Couple claims child care allowance for dead daughter over 6 years See in context

Who cares about the money? Child leaves hospital in good health, dies a week later and is thrown into the sea? Who knows what parents like that are capable off doing to their child?

Agree 100%. Plus continuing the fraud for 6 years. Awful, awful awful story.

Posted in: Trekkies See in context

We are just finishing 'Sherlock' series 2, its been brilliant - there is a lot of stuff which is lifted entirely from the books but updated very cleverly. Interesting that both Cumberbatch and Freeman had roles in the Hobbit. I also enjoyed the ST prequel with Chris Pine and will certainly watch this one.

Unfortunately with this angle, almost half the tower beyong the viewing deck is barely visible.

I enjoyed views of the 'old' Tokyo Tower yesterday evening, yellow-lit, through low cloud and mist, reaching moodily into the clouds - iconic.

I saw Coldplay live at Fuji Rock this year. They were a terrific headline act, very strong live performance, easily the most memorable visually and a very strong sound too. They played "Fix You" as part of their encore. Great show.

Posted in: Pair sustain minor injuries after tumble down Ginza subway escalator See in context

Heh ... reminds me of the drunk salariman I saw at Meguro station last week. He looked very weary as, head down, he walked UP the down escalator. In the 5 minutes I was waiting for the train, he managed to keep a geo-stationary position about halfway up (or maybe down) the escalator. For all I know, he's still there ...

The guy beat a 17 year old girl unconscious with a rock and left her for dead in a field in the middle of winter.

"She didn't put out" is not a justifiable excuse. Not in law, nor under any moral code I subscribe to.

Its certainly a problem to be bi-literal. Did you look at Nishimachi? I understand they have a bi-literal / bi-lingual curriculum.

My kids (British father, Japanese mother) are at international school. I am very happy with the education experience they are getting. But damn, it really is expensive!
